Aristotle was said to be the most memorable philosopher in Roman Times. Being in a part of the lower-class, he had more opportunities than the people in his same social class. With these opportunities, Aristotle took full advantage of them and built a life for himself. Throughout his lifetime, he accomplished many things. Aristotle’s findings have proven throughout the many years they have been useful. 1
Aristotle was born in 384 BCE in Stagira Chalcidice. He was the son of Nicomachus who was a physician for King Amyntas of Macedon. Having this connection, Aristotle probably spent most of his time in the Macedonia palace through most of his childhood. Aristotle moved to Athens at the age of eight-teen to study at Plato’s Academy. Aristotle remained there until about for twenty years and left at the request of Philip of Macedonia. Between 356 and 323 BCE Aristotle taught Alexander the Great which gave Aristotle more opportunities to improve on his teachings.2
When Plato deceased, Aristotle went from Platonism to empiricism. He went to this new teaching because he believed everything was based on perception. His teachings influenced the Renaissance where his teachings were expanding world-wide. Aristotle’s change to empiricism had one of the greatest impacts on his teachings.
Aristotle’s ontology is much like Plato’s in that it is universal. Ontology is the philosophical study of the nature of being, becoming, existing, or, reality, as well as the basic categories of being and their relations. This concept is what most people used as a way to categorize different people in society. The hierarchy system is how different people are placed based on their family and how their life styles are. If the British just remained in their own land, then America would not be what it is today. Exploring the unknown gives people a goal to look forward to. Not one person can sustain on their own without being dependent on others.
Even I do not know to the answers to everything, but I always ask questions when I am uncertain. Not everything can come naturally to people, but there are those unique gifts that are; most people are artists, musicians, athletes, etc. For me, mine is the helping hand.
Learning from other people is just the beginning. As Aristotle learned from Plato, I have learned from Aristotle. Being where you are at the moment can be changed if you apply yourself. No one is perfect, but the imperfections define who we are. Take Aristotle, he has showed people where you are from shouldn’t matter more than what you know or what you hope to learn.
