” A very small percentage of law enforcement officials, however, are guilty of using excessive force against suspects without reason to do so. Although such actions are illegal--both in the United States and in many other countries many incidents of police brutality go unreported and unprosecuted” (Walter). Police brutality is the act of using excessive force against a person suspected of a crime. Although it isn’t a new problem, police brutality is a growing problem. Law enforcement officers need to have a strict set of regulations to follow so this trend doesn’t continue. Without a strict set of rules, brutality has become a racial issue, they will continue to get excessive protection, and they won’t be held accountable for their actions.

I will always have the courage to hold myself and others accountable for our actions. I will always uphold the constitution my community and the agency I serve” (“What is the Law Enforcement”). Every law enforcement officer should know this oath by heart. It is introduced to them during police academy and repeated until they graduate. But for most officers in the field, thats the last time they will have to recite or even remember the oath of honor. “... It is strongly recommended by the IACP … all agencies adopt the Law Enforcement Oath of Honor.” (“What is the Law Enforcement”) The enforcement oath of honor is “Strongly Recommended” to be adopted by all agencies. So even though it is required to be known while in police academy, not all police agencies adopt it and use it.
