Recommended: The effects of police brutality in America

Police enforcement is viewed as a courageous and honorable force from the majority of the nation. Whenever our lives are in danger, they are the first people we contact. A vast portion of Americans greatly depend on law enforcement to always keep us safe. Their main purpose is to serve and protect the country. For most of the police department, this statement is valid, but there are several individuals who the statement does not apply to. There are numerous people on the police force who are unworthy of wearing a blue uniform. For them, utilizing excessive and brutal force is a part of getting the job done. These individuals have a racial prejudice mindset; especially toward African American communities. This controversial topic of police brutality has brought up questions about the perception of extreme force. The malicious actions of corrupt police officers is creating a hateful reputation of everyone involved with authority. Americans, especially African Americans, are becoming apprehensive of law enforcement. They do not want to be their next victim. This tremendously minimizes the relationship between the public and law enforcement. The police are supposed to enforce the law and criminals are alleged to be the ones to violate it. We should be able to tell the difference between them. This is an issue because we should not have the burden of worrying about getting beat up by the people who took an oath to protect us. It diminishes the purpose of even having law enforcement. Communities should obtain heroic and respectable views regarding law enforcement, but it is almost impossible to depict a true cop from a deceptive one. Its understood, force is sometimes necessary to refrain criminals when they get out of line, or put the police officers life endanger. Inherent criminality; the belief that people who commit crimes are animals and incapable of rehabilitation, leads police to treat people brutally. . Recent statistics published by the Stolen Lives Project estimate that the number of cases in the United States relating to police brutality has reached the thousands, but these statistics come with a disclaimer many, if not most, of these instances are never reported due to fear of reprisal. The fact is there are many cases of police brutality and corruption. Some are not good enough to make it to the front page of the newspaper or to the news. Not enough is being done; lack of community efforts are being made to help. Justice has to be served and the code of silence needs to be broken. Some cops need to be put behind bars. The only way to clean up the city or community is to clean up all the dirty cops. Police brutality is a cruel, inhumane injustice that can be prohibited. No one needs to be afraid or be worried about being intimidated by police and about coming foward with information. Without a doubt we have the good cops and bad cops, about a fraction of those cops still go abusing their authority to innocent people.
