The earth is changing in many ways. Some of the change can be explained by natural occurrences, but others are related to humans. In this paper I will be showing evidence that relates climate change to humans. First of all what is climate change? Next what is the impact of carbon dioxide have to do with the warming the earth and how do we impact the carbon dioxide levels? Finally, how can we positively impact the fight against climate change?
Climate change is a change in the Earth’s normal temperatures. Throughout Earth’s history the climate of the planet has changed drastically.(Nasa, 2015) As an example when the dinosaurs roamed the earth is was sunny and full of plants. ) So why is climate change such a big deal right now when it happens naturally? The answer is that the change in climate has never been this drastic. What impact does carbon dioxide have on the warming of the Earth? Global warming is caused by the Greenhouse Effect. The Greenhouse Effect is how much radiation comes in and out of the atmosphere warming the Earth. Greenhouse gases are like a blanket that forms around the Earth keeping it warm. Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor, and nitrous oxide. The burning of fossil fuels creates carbon dioxide which increases the blanket making the Earth warmer. Fossil fuels include coal, oil, and gasoline. Another factor is deforestation. Deforestation is the cutting down of forests. Trees take carbon dioxide out of the air and turn it into oxygen. When there are huge amounts of trees being cut down this also raises the carbon dioxide levels.(Live Science, 2015) This shows that humans are in fact the reason for the drastic climate change. If we are the cause, can we fight climate change? Some scientists believe that we are at a point where there is no return. Scientist Josef Werne said that there are only three options: Do nothing and live with the consequences, adapt to the climate change, or aggressively place policies that actually reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.(Live Science, 2015) In this paper I showed evidence that relates climate change to humans.
