Because of school dropout, most of teens work in unskilled jobs. They are not able to find good jobs because of low education. (Lee & Hahm, 2010)
The high social and economic costs of teen pregnancy and child¬bearing can have short- and long-term negative consequences for teen parents, their children, and their community. Through recent research, it has been recognized that pregnancy and childbirth have a significant impact on educational outcomes of teen parents. These immediate and long-lasting effects continue for teen parents and their children even after adjusting for the factors that increased the teen’s risk for pregnancy—e.g., growing up in poverty, having parents with low levels of education, growing up in a single-parent family, and having low attachment to and performance in school.
Most teens crush their dreams of great future, most of the teenage parents don’t plan to get pregnant, but it happens anyways. Teenage pregnancy is a problem for all involved. It puts a great strain on the parents, especially the mother, who is more likely to struggle to deal with parenthood. The current rate of teen pregnancy is 67.8 pregnancies or 7% of the population. 62 pregnant teens out of every 1,000 women get pregnant. Today in society the media, TV and movies, where young girls, and young men, are constantly exposed to sex and sexually charged subjects is the reason why teen pregnancy is beginning to get be a growing problem. Another reason that this is happening is because of the not only the lack of values in today’s society, but also because parents today are not educating their young ones about the birds and the bees so that the youth will know about the dangers of getting pregnant so young. Young people should be taught about sex and pregnancy so that they are well educated on the topics. The more teens know about sex, the more likely they are to use protection or to abstain from sex to prevent teen pregnancy. Not only is there a big impact on the teen mother of getting pregnant at a young age, it could also impact the child of the mother. “Teen mothers have a higher rate of low birth weight babies and infant mortality than mothers in the ages of 20. They are not only less likely to finish high school, but also are more likely to live in poverty and rely on public assistance like food stamps” (South Carolina Campaign). When it comes to the children of the teen mothers, they are less prepared to enter the school system and score lower on measures of school readiness. Abortion has been one of the most talked about topics in society just about anywhere from television, magazines, whether or not it should be the right or wrong thing to do. Abortion is a very sensitive issue to discuss, because of its nature. Many people have said that abortion is a very bad thing to do and it should not even be choice whether or not to abort a living fetus. People think that abortion is committing murder as it is killing the human fetus. However, others feel that a woman should have a voice and have the right to choose to keep the child or not and that it is not murder until the baby is born. Majority of individuals who believe that abortion is bad say that the fetus is human who is partly being formed and to have an abortion is considered to be murder. For the people who think an abortion is ok, say that it’s not considered murder unless the child is born. I believe that abortion should be seen in which the stage the fetus is in. if the fetus is in an early stage of pregnancy it is not considered murder, but if the fetus has already began to develop into a larger fetus then it is indeed considered to be murder. There are times when abortion can be accepted, if the mother is having complications due to pregnancy. For example if the mother is enduring complications in her pregnancy that can harm her, because of the child in that case it is ok to perform an abortion to help save the mother’s life. It is also very important to understand this type of situation. The mother has the right to have an abortion and it is her decision because a mother knows best about her health conditions.
The responsibility teens have to take on can give them anxiety. In fact, people feel teens who keep their baby drop out of school, ruins the kids life, and cannot afford it. Therefore, a teen is putting their baby in high risk because their body is not fully developed. Teens keeping their baby can be a hardship for their parents because they would have to provide for their teen and the baby. People feel it is unfair to get pregnant, and have to put their baby off on their parents. However, this joyful and happy life just needs a single mistake to be changed radically; this mistake is to become a teenage mother. For example, every four of 10 teenage girls in the United States get pregnant before the age of 20 (Hillis, Anda, Dube, Felitti & al, 2004). In Teenage Pregnancy a Theoretical Analysis of a Social Problem, Davis (1989) stated “In teenage pregnancy we have a problem about which everyone has an opinion, but apparently no one has a solution” (p. 20).
