Why Kanye loving Kanye sells
“Very loose T-shirt in Egyptian cotton. Short sleeves. Ribbing at neckline. Reinforced neckline and shoulders. ‘A.P.C. KANYE’ silkscreened inside neckline.”(Soll) Do you have your checkbook out yet? This was the description for what looks like a Hanes shirt one can buy in a 3-pack in Wal-Mart. Media, social or otherwise, tore this apart it as soon as it was announced. Everyone seemed to have a consensus that the shirt was nothing special and was literally just a plain white t-shirt that was dubbed “Hip Hop T-shirt”(Soll). “A white Egyptian cotton shirt online goes for 21.95 so why not just buy that?” seemed to be the question on everyone’s mind. Some clothes even go on sale for twenty dollars, while Kanye’s clothes have never reached double figures. The reasoning behind why you should pay so much money for all things Kanye is nowhere near modest coming if from Kanye. “but there is no other brand that could sell 1 million dollars of clothing in 2 days from 1 location!!!”(West) “I am a God”(West) With tweets, lyrics, and comments like this Kanye expects everyone to come to their senses and realize how great he is. That it works is the crazy part because people really do admire him. His Logos isn’t the best I haven’t heard him say anything advertising how specifically his clothing is better than the rest and that makes people feel like Kanye isn’t trying to sell them things like a corporation which gives many of us much needed relief. Kanye does give reason to his music that is negatively criticized he simply says he is ahead of his time. When his album, 808,s and heartbreak, came out it was negatively criticized by many fans saying it simply wasn't hip hop and auto-tune doesn't fix with rap. Now it's 2016 and every rapper on the radio from seasoned pros like Lil Wayne and Jay-Z to newbies like Drake and Future use auto-tune for an abundance of their songs. 808s and heartbreak was ahead of its time and now every time one of Kanye’s song is negatively criticized he uses the reasoning that it’s just ahead of its time. This is a great way to sell oneself because he is not only saying his song is good he is promoting how advanced he is. Also, nobody really knows what will happen in the future so it’s very hard to dispute him on his reasoning.
