Argumentative Paper Michael Fascitelli of Vornado Realty, which owns 100 million square feet of office space in New York. He made $64.4 million in 2013. Alex rodriguez made $21,726,881 in 2004. These statistics make it look like athletes should be paid more not less. Athletes are paid fairly because they work hard all year round and have to retire early. Athletes work hard for their money. Athletes work hard all year round. They also get summer jobs or practice with their team a lot. Along with that they all play very hard at their games and during practice. Athletes deserve their money because they work hard for it. Most athletes have to retire early due to injuries. A majority of athletes get hurt over their career. Some athletes also have
short careers due to their capability to stay in shape. Along with all that athletes have shorter lives due to injuries. Injuries make lots of athletes retire early. Critics argued that athletes make lots of money but just spend it all on unnecessary items. Athletes might do that, but when or if they get hurt they use their money for nice hospitals that will treat them well. Also athletes will get financial advisors to help them with with a budget. Lots of athletes also donate to charity along with helping their parents buy or fix something like a house. Critics argued that unnecessary items are bought by athletes with all their money. In conclusion , 21,726,881 that Alex Rodriguez makes is nothing compared to the $64.4 million that Michael made. This is why athletes deserve what they earn by playing hard and retiring early.
College athletes should not be paid it will ruin college sports forever. Some people believe that college athletes should be paid by the school because of all of the hard work they put in however they shouldn’t be paid because there is no fair way to pay every college athlete. There are many reasons that college athletes shouldn’t be paid one of the main reasons is that colleges don’t have enough money, the second reason is that they already get money in the form of scholarships, and there is no fair way to pay each college athlete.
Imagine this you are the star player on your college football team and you get your fifth concussion causing you to be out of sports the rest of your life due to health reason and when you are 40 you get alzheimer's causing you to have life brain problems and having to spend lots of money in rehab and you never feel the same ever again and are in major det and only your are in and out of jobs because of your brain so your wife has to support you with the money to help cure it while you get lost easily when driving and can't remember stuff from the day before like why am I one this plane while heading to get therapy for your brain. This is why college athletes should be paid they should because they are too busy to have a job, The NCAA has enough money and They can put in salary caps so everybody get paid fair. But other say they shouldn't because it ruins their sentimental values and family history.
I have decided to write a response paper to Ekow N. Yankah’s: “Why N.C.A.A. Athletes Shouldn’t Be Paid”. Although I enjoyed reading his perspective, I do not agree with his statement which addresses that student-athletes shouldn 't get paid. Universities are using their student-athlete’s popularity to promote their athletics program while the student-athletes are unable to promote their own image. Student-athletes work hard day in and day out, basically like having a full time job. Which makes time is also very limited during the day for student athletes to get a real job to pay for the extra expenses that they need. Also, most of the time coaches will not allow the student athletes to work, because of their conflicting schedules with practice.
There has been an extensive debate over the years about college athletes being paid and I honestly don’t see why there is a debate about it at all. The NCAA has strict rules about players receiving benefits from the school in forms of helping players and their families in the form of paychecks or even helping pay bills. College sports bring in an enormous amount of money for the schools every year and are expected to be given nothing in return. Sports do not only bring in money to schools but also more students and fans. The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) have taken several players’ records and rewards from them for the simple fact of getting benefits from the school and that is just not acceptable (Allen 115). Athletes are just like every other student in the way of having to pay for housing, food, bills, and more. Having to balance school and sports gives athletes no time to have jobs which means they do not have a way to bring in money to pay for the essentials of going to
College sports have become more popular throughout the past few years and the NCAA is doing an immense amount of money. This increase in money has caused colleges to become involved in this global debate over whether college athletes should be paid or not. Many athletes believe they should be paid for all their hard work, time, and dedication to the organization. Other people like, Kristi Dosh, believe that college athletes shouldn’t be paid because there are too many questions that haven’t been answered for them to join the opposing side. A lot of questions come up with this debate, like which athletes are going to get paid? Kristi Dosh is an author and an ESPN sports business reporter. Dosh wrote the essay, “The Problems with Paying College Athletes”, on June 9, 2011. This essay was published in Forbes which is a business magazine about sports and money. Kristi Dosh makes a somewhat convincing argument by asking a lot of questions to get her audience to realize how difficult this change is, however; she doesn’t do a very good job giving any citations or statistics to back up her statements. Ultimately, I think Dosh is convincing to her audience, but the weaknesses outweigh the strengths.
Should soldiers or athletes get paid more money? I say the soldiers should get paid more because they protect our country and plus too soldiers represent the United States. Athletes get paid more in a day than a soldier gets a year. The average salary the soldiers get in a year is 99,000. Soldiers don’t get that much like they should get. That's why they need to be paid more money.
These are just some of the reasons why athletes are paid so much money. The controversy of athletes being overpaid dates back to 1922, when well-known baseball player George “Babe” Ruth received $50,000 within the first year of his career. Ruth’s extensive wealth was bolstered by dozens of endorsements (Saperecom). As it is shown in figure 1, in the Fortunate 50 Tiger Woods takes the number one spot for highest paid athlete.
The NFL has a lot of bad effects on players after there career including Concussions, Injuries, and Deaths. Former linebacker George Koonce Felt disillusion after his 10 year career ended in 2003. He later crashed his car on a fail suicidal attempt. His mind was so messed up after
Scandals have emerged and rules has been broken in NCAA. The NCAA has a history of scandals from several universities which hurt the image of the school and especially the ones who was involved in the scandal. All rules broken of the NCAA has consequences and will impact ones who break them. Rules are rules and they must be taken seriously, but are all the rules truly necessary. Due the rules set in the NCAA is that student athletes can not earn any compensation for money. There is history of scandals in which schools and coaching staff have payed students athletes to attend their schools.
The money given to the athletes could be used for more probable causes. Recently Alex Rodriguez of the Texas Rangers signed a contract for 252 million dollars over a span of 10 years. This is enough money to feed the nation's poor for a year or to provide a lot more housing and shelters for the homeless. Others could benefit from the millions being wasted on these athletes. Not because the players don’t earn the money but because it could just be better spent on more important issues in our communities.
The salary of professional athletes are always being debated on whether they make too much or it 's the right amount they should make. Some of the athletes do make millions and millions of dollars, but there is some that don 't. Anyways in order to make the millions first an athletes must make it to the professional level. For example in soccer only 1.4% of people actually make it to the professional level. So the rest of the people make it for other sports such as football, basketball, baseball, and others. To be considered a professional athlete you must be getting payed to play a sport. They will be playing for a league and even tournaments and get rewarded with more money if they win. Some may think an athlete
A lingering question when arguing whether college athletes should be paid or not is how much would each athlete actually be paid? In a study recorded by writer for Business Insider, Tony Manfred reports that “Right now the average player earns just $23,204 in scholarship
College sports such as football and basketball are very popular in the United States. College sports makes colleges a lot of money and revenue every year. College athletes can be seen as an idol to some people or to the college that they are attending. Tim Tebow is known for playing football for the Florida Gators, winning the Heisman, and for his touchdown celebration “Tebowing.” Athletes like this make colleges millions of dollars every season. Being an athlete they still have to stay in school to be able to play a sport. College athletes do not have time for a job with school also the time they put in for the sport they play. What are the effects of paying college athletes?
“If you get in the end zone, you deserve to celebrate. It’s what we work for. So, once we get in there, I love to see guys just have fun, enjoy themselves, be a kid again.” 1.) These are the words of Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr regarding this issue.
Why do teachers get paid so much less than sports players? A teacher mentors a child or teenager and gives them knowledge. A sports player plays a game in which they are good at and love to do. So why does a sports player live a dream life earning millions of dollars a year while a teacher is stuck living the middle class life.
