eone has stolen another expensive shirt in the church hall dorms. There has been theft in the dorms from the beginning of the fall semester. There was even theft before school started amongst the football team during their fall camp. Although theft is one of the most common crimes amongst Louisiana College students, there are very few increments around the campus that aid in stopping the thieves. Stealing someone’s stuff is wrong but for some reason there are people who still choose to take something that does not belong to them, such as wallets, keys, clothes, and even game consoles. There are many different things being stolen on the Louisiana College campus. Many things that make no sense to why someone would even consider stealing. Some …show more content…
One suggestion is that more cameras are placed around the dorms in appropriate locations. Also cameras that actually work should be installed around the campus. Cameras that are already in place should be working on and turned on at all times. Otherwise, there is no point in having cameras if they are broke or turned off. In another case, if there are “for show cameras,” around the campus then the student’s tuition is not being used properly. Also, the campus security should be a lot better at finding thieves on the campus. Their jobs are to protect the student’s on the campus of LC, and that includes the student’s belongings. In the case of the stolen Xbox, all the security had to do was check everyone’s dorm and when an Xbox one was found, turn the Xbox on and check the user name for the victim’s private …show more content…
One drawback to the camera solution is that the new cameras would cost a little bit of money. It would also cost some money in the action of fixing the cameras that are broken around the campus. Although it may cost some money to fix and install the cameras, it would pay off in the long run in protecting the students of Louisiana College. There is also a drawback in the solution of getting better campus security. It is a very hard task in finding a thief, even around a small campus such as Louisiana College. The campus security do their best at trying to keep the campus safe, and indeed do a very good job at it. So in asking them to do a better job at finding thieves around the campus, is much easier said than
The actions of thieves can be related to a slippery slope. They may start out by stealing something small, but nothing is keeping them from stealing something of more worth, so the tendency is to escalate their behaviors.
Supporting Point Why should college campuses be any different? They contain the country’s future presidents, senators and judges. They are also one of the most vulnerable places because most colleges don’t allow firearms on campus. The most important factor is that many students don’t pay attention to their surroundings so they are put in dangerous situations and they should be able to defend themselves to a certain extent.

College is seen as the beginning of young adult life, but campus crime can prevent the continuation of that life.Yet, campuses still prohibit students from carrying essential self defense weapons. This is most likely due to their ignorance of the benefits involved with allowing campus carry. Campus carry improves the overall environment of a college and promotes safety. Students should be allowed to carry guns on campus due to the current lack of protection offered through the university and an individual’s lawful right, despite the belief that it would cause an escalation in violent crime.

This study attempts to measure the fear of crime on the campus of mainly the University of New Mexico and other campuses across the nation. I attempt to explore the fear of crime from a student’s perspective. This research will enhance the research that has been done on the issues and topics of fear and crime on college campuses. This study will measure the level of perceived risk by taking into consideration various variables such as demographics, routines, and prior experiences with victimization. With this research, I seek to answer the following questions: How afraid are students of being victimized while on campus, and what factors contribute to that fear of crime. The research will hopefully yield several contributions, such as knowing the level of fear that student’s experience, universities can determine the best approach to making their student population feel safer. Further research could be conducted to study whether students’ fear of crime is related to their awareness of crime, and whether that awareness of crime reduces the possibility of victimization. Another interesting aspect is that college campuses are communities with their own set of norms and regulations, and some have populations comparable to the size of small towns and cities. Studying fear of crime within those communities can provide more insight into fear of victimization in small units, such as neighborhoods, or larger units, such as cities.
Some people own a gun for their own safety. Yet, one of the things they can rely on for protection and defense may jeopardize many lives around them. A college campus is very populated which may increase the likelihood of a gun theft, and could fall into the wrong hands. Campuses provide security who are always ready and prepared for any danger, meaning it is avoidable for anyone other than them to carry weapons. Concealed carry is not appropriate on college campuses because nor is it only unnecessary, but may also result in a situation that can quickly escalate, creating a greater chance of causing more harm than not carrying a concealed weapon.
Do you remember the last time something was taken from you that was rightfully yours? My answer would be high school when someone snatched my wallet with all my hard earned money in it.
The sign on a college campus reads: “No weapons allowed on campus.” The majority of people would look and the sign and feel safe when they enter. But when you ask the students of Virginia Tech if they feel secure and protected every day, they would answer the exact opposite. Thirty-two people were killed on a terrifying day in April 2007. What did they learn? Criminals don’t need permission to bring weapons to school, so what’s the point in the rule against it? More than likely, a college campus is more worried about what might happen if they allowed guns than generating an answer that will stop the violence altogether. David Burnett, the president of Students for Concealed Carry, agrees by claiming, “Rather than considering that criminals fear armed victims more than rules, colleges peddle imaginary problems as an excuse not to implement real solutions.” It is logical to view the issue this way, but the fact is allowing licensed carry is more lik...
Shoplifting is a major problem in today. The temptation of not paying for something, just hiding it away and saving your own money is a large factor for some people. The culprit just thinks he's getting a product for free and doesn't know what he's actually doing to himself and the community. Shoplifting effects everyone, yourself and the everyone in the local neighborhood. In this essay I'm going to explain some of the circumstances of stealing from local stores, or any store. After I've been caught stealing I found out how wrong it is and how it is a disadvantage to everyone.
The collection of violent crime data in the UCR includes the numbers of murders and manslaughters, rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, property crimes, burglaries, larcenies and motor vehicle thefts, and arsons (Table 9). The most common crime that is rarely reported throughout college campuses is rape. Based on the UCR, the rape counts from 2005 through 2012 throughout campuses in New York State ar...
Since there is also an evident theft along with the murder, the motive is clear. The murderer wanted the hard drive desperately, and was willing to kill for it. However, what could have been on this hard drive? Why would he want it so bad that he would kill for it? Since, someone was killed for it, we know that the hard drive was vitally important. Hard drives contain all of the data on a computer, so they can hold a lot of information. The hard drive could have information that contains government secrets, or classified information of a business. The hard drive had research papers next to it, so I think this was a dorm room that is on the first floor. It is likely that the intruder was stealing schoolwork from the victim. College schoolwork can be very overwhelming sometimes, and it is not far fetched to believe that someone would kill for a hard drive full of schoolwork. Although this is probably what happened, this does not happen often. If there was a murder over schoolwork, it would be national news. There would be arguments about the level of stress caused by school. After all, it caused a student to kill another student. There would probably be education reform, probably named after the victim. The police would walk in the home, see all this evidence and be able to gather a motive and how the murder
There are some major upsides in having cameras in public places. In early 2013 two people set off bombs at the Boston marathon, which killed several people and injured hundreds. The city of Boston had cameras monitoring the streets, and was able to identify the bombers within two days. (La Vigne, Nancy) The FBI was able to catch them before they were able to carry out another planned attack in Times Square, which could have been much, more devastating. In addition to being able to solve crimes that have already happened by using cameras, we are also able to use them and the other technologies that go with it to prevent crime. The National Security Agency has reported that it has prevented several terrorist attacks since 2001 using new technology put in place to prevent the attacks. However, much of the NSA’s tactics have been criticized lately, though the majority of people still agree that it is worth it. Using cameras is also a cheap way to monitor an area. Having to employ several police officers to patrol an area can be expensive and those officers could be out doing more important jobs. When you have cam...
Having a network of cameras on every street in the city increases the chances of preventing a crime, along with the ability to capture a criminal on video. Some people argue that the cameras generate an overwhelming amount of evidence to sift through.... ... middle of paper ... ... However, because all this technology is relatively new, there are not really any policies that have been enacted yet.
Desperate times lead to desperate measures. A man loses his job and has no money to feed his family. One might assume left with no other means the man might resort to stealing. The United States is currently in the midst of a recession so severe some speculate will last longer than the Great Depression. Various indicators of the economic health such as the unemployment rate and home foreclosures have reached their worst records in decades over the last several months. Given the state of the financial crisis law enforcement agencies have warned of increased criminal activity. Despite the economic turmoil and high levels of unemployment, crime rates have fallen significantly across the United States.
