I do think that freedom needs to be won more than once. It shouldn’t need to though. Our founding fathers wrote the Constitution which have our freedoms, the 10 amendments. Our soldiers even fought for our freedom. America isn’t free anymore. My dad’s friend’s friend said that he is from South Africa and they have more freedom than we do.
Freedom of speech is one of our freedoms that have changed. Somebody can’t say anything without someone being offended. The Right to Bear Arms is another. Obama thinks that gun control should be banned. Apparently to him it’s the guns that is the problem and not the people even though they have control over it. He believes in the 2nd amendment but doesn’t believe we should have guns. Everyone is gonna have a gun even if they ban it. Even the criminals and that’s the reason he thinks we shouldn’t have the right to bear ourselves. I also believe that another reason why he thinks that we shouldn’t arm ourselves is for them to have power. We can’t be protected so therefor the think they have more power.

Our government is suppose to be going by the Constitution, but they think they can change that up now and make it how they like it. Freedom of Religion is in the first amendment and they’re taking that away from us. These are our inalienable rights, they can’t take this away from us. They don’t care though. They think that since they run our country, they can do whatever they want to it. They do not think of the outcomes of our country and the citizens. Judaism and Christianity isn’t as big anymore than it was back then. This is suppose to be one nation under God. Some schools took out “One Nation Under God” from our national anthem. I heard a while ago that a little girl brought a Bible to school to read and the teacher made her read something else because it was “offensive.” If you take away our rights, then all of the other freedoms will fall. My grandpa was telling me awhile ago that Obama is gonna be sending in thousands of foreigners to our country next year. People thinks that it’s such a good idea but it’s really not. The foreigners are gonna start voting for who Obama wants just for them to stay in our country. They shouldn’t be able to do that since they’re an illegal citizen unless they try to become an American citizen. They could screw up everybody else’s votes, who belong in America, just for Obama. Just to stay in our country. I know that I’m probably gonna be hated for what I’m about to say, but I agree with what Donald Trump says about foreigners in our country. I’m sorry but foreigners don’t belong in our country. I agree that we need to get all the illegal foreigners out of our country and build up our borders. I’m not saying I would vote for him, I just agree with that one thing. I know that if someone read what I feel on this situation, they’d disagree with me.
I don’t care. People are so involved with the world that they can’t see what’s wrong with it. They think whatever the government says about our country and the citizens is right and they can’t seem to think for themselves. I think that we could lose our freedom one day, even more than we are now. We could become a socialist country. I’m sure we’re leading there now anyway. Hopefully our next president can change that before it happens.
America’s freedom shouldn’t be fought again. We won our independence in 1776. We have the Declaration of Independence to prove it. Sadly, fighting for our freedom will never end. We’ll always have a conflict to fight for. I’ll continue to fight for what is right. I’ll follow the Constitution which is what we should be doing now. America needs to change. It needs to change now, before it gets even worse than it is
now.
I feel inspired and patriotic every time I see a car’s back bumper sticker featuring an American flag stating, “Freedom Isn’t Free!” The moral clarity of those words rings as true as the Liberty Bell. Those Americans that do not fathom the significance of the motto Freedom Isn’t Free suffer from the very problematic “victim/slave mentality,” which ultimately will become a future reality should more citizens not heed the simple message the sage language conveys. Yes it indeed bears repeating, “Freedom Is Not Free!” Its acquisition from King George’s England involved struggle, its maintenance throughout the first two and a quarter centuries of our Great Republic required sacrifice and its continuation demands perseverance. Wise people fully realize that struggle, sacrifice and perseverance are the vital characteristics of freedom, democracy and independence.
Only through a changed government, a better government, will the American people experience true freedom.
In conclusion, it is evident that the freedom of America was not free. It was bought with a price. This freedom was gained through years of sacrifice and the American victory in the Revolutionary War. It’s military assets, the aid from foreign countries, and the unwavering, inspiring spirit of independence were significant factors in the colonial victory. Without these three components, the Revolutionary War would have been lost and America would not be as we know it today.
The prompt for this essay is, “Does freedom need to be won more than once?” In my opinion, it does and it has to be won with every generation. I think even though there are laws ensuring our rights, they are not always upheld. For example, women and men are supposed to be equal, but in some situations they get paid less. In this essay, I will argue that our freedoms must continually be earned. For instance, the Revolutionary War was fought to gain independence from Britain, the Civil War was fought to abolish slavery, and the Women’s Suffrage Movement in the 1910s to 1920s was aimed to allow women to vote.
Left, right, Liberal, Conservative, Democratic, Republican. There are a lot of synonyms for the sides of our nation divided. Divided on many things: religion, political views, morals, etc.. For a nation that prides ourselves on extraordinary security and unity, it is quite ironic that so many issues can cause such distress and uproar within communities. One such issue is gun control. As a white male in a middle-lower class family that has never owned a gun, I may be somewhat biased. Objectively as I can, I am going to report the facts and more importantly, try to find the core issues at play.
Gun rights activists mobilised by, but not limited to, the NRA, argue that increasing gun control will not only breach the Second Amendment, but remove law abiding citizens ability to defend themselves and others from gun wielding criminals, be that in public or vulnerable places such as schools. In fact, in a recent speech by President Obama, he stated that he believes in the Second Amendment. However, a system has been created in which dangerous people can purchase firearms, something that needs to be stopped (The White House: Office of the Press Secretary, 2016).
America—the land of the free and the home of the brave. Not only are these words sung in the national anthem, but they can even be considered a motto for the country. In the US, residents and citizens have many rights that people in other countries can only dream about. They have the right to practice freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and many other freedoms thanks to the founding fathers and the United States Constitution. But there are some very controversial rights as well. What about the second amendment – the right to bear arms? While America is considered one of the freest countries in the world, we might ask ourselves: is it too free? Although the right to bear arms is a constitutional right, the safety of the nation is far more important. America should use Australia as a model when it comes to gun laws. Stricter, more extensive background checks, requiring permits and training, and the prohibition of automatic and semi-automatic guns must be enforced in order to help lower crime rates and ensure American citizen’s safety.
In current day society, it is frequently promoted as self-defense and our “duty” as Americans to own a gun of some sort. The second amendment to the constitution declares that “We the People” are allowed to bear arms because we live in a free State. Although these statements are true, at what cost? The question, “at what cost,” arises due to the recent push for an extension and enforcement of the second amendment. The people of the States have been pushing for desired concealed carry at public areas, such as schools. Statements and questions of concern have been on the as to whether or not this idea is “smart”. Contrary of it allowing some people to feel safe, the idea should be imposed. Guns are weapons and they have the history behind them
Being a young American I have witnessed many problems with growing up in this great country of ours. We have homeless people who can't find work, rising inflation rates, an unbalanced budget, and more importantly, a problem with guns.
Sadly, this wasn’t without bloodshed and sacrifice that our forefathers pledged themselves to. They knew they had great wealth, families, homes, businesses, and everything to lose. However, they were willing to risk it all for the cause of liberty. These were real heroes. Heroes whose actions one often takes for granted as a free American. America is not free because of what has been accomplished in recent days. This is a two hundred and thirty-nine year victory. Of all accomplished battles, this is our oldest and by far the most important. The question was why did the founders write the Declaration of Independence. Let it be known that they did not for themselves but for their country. Modest men of great means and material wealth and they wanted and desired no praise. Humble men receive great praise because they don’t desire it but deserve it. Americans should always pledge their lives, their fortunes and their sacred
If a person don’t carry a concealed weapon, how will they be able to protect themselves and their precious family from vicious criminals? Shall issue states are states that citizens may apply and be considered by the state for a gun permit which is also known as concealed carry. John R. Lott, is an economist and has received his Ph.D. in economics from UCLA. He claimed "shall-issue" concealed carry laws reduced murders by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7%, and robbery by 3%, according to a 2000 analysis of FBI crime data” (Lott, John R.) This refers to how concealed carry reduces crime and information was reported by the FBI compared to the other states that don’t allow concealed carry. This quote shows real evidence on how guns
Written on December 15, 1791 was the second amendment of the constitution. It states that "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."(Cite)? United States citizens have used guns for various reasons that include protection, hunting, and sporting reasons. The topic on gun control is a very complex topic that is discussed daily. It is such a big issue that it has both the democrats and republicans firmly established in their positions. One of the main reasons this has been such an important topic in recent years is because of all the murders and massacres that have happened recently in the United States. As our newly nominated president, Donald
“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” - Second Amendment. Throughout history, this sentence of twenty seven words has caused an intense debate. The polemic is that some people claim that a gun control policy is unconstitutional, while others disagree and even say it is necessary in order to reduce crime. Now, what does gun control mean? If it means to analyze who is responsible enough to own a gun by a “Universal Background Check”; that sounds right to everyone. But in the article “What Are Obama’s Gun Control Proposals? An Easy Guide” published in the National Journal by Matt Vasilogambros. The author states that the “gun-control package” that President Obama proposed “included proposals to ban assault weapons”. A firearm gives you power, to defend yourself or to kill someone else. You make the decision of how will you use that power. The constitution gives you the right to bear arms and any law that tries to revoke this is unconstitutional. If the people allow gun control it will be like opening the door to a tyrannical government, guns are not the problem, is the bad attention towards education, poverty and job opportunities.
The debate over gun control in America has constantly brought up over the years due to gunmen killing large amounts of civilizations in shootings. From Columbine to Sandy Hook or the shootings of the two reporters in West Virginia, these public shootings are occurring everywhere. Lawmakers and civilians alike are pushing for increased gun control in hopes of preventing the same tragedies. Anybody that has been affected by the shootings have been pushing Congress and state governments to force new sanctions on government. With the past three years, Congress has shot down all the laws despite the large amounts of public support. Adding more gun control isn’t going to stop the mass shootings from happening.
