I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, It’s a very offensive one. And that’s not to mention the damage that smoking can do to your body and the people around you. I probably tried smoking a cigarette on one or two occasions, and through the coughing and wheezing, I cant begin to imagine the damage that it has caused and is causing on lifetime smokers. Throughout my teenage years and early twenties, I loathed cigarettes and the appalling smell that accompanied them (even though, I will admit that the greaser culture of the 1950s made cancer sticks look pretty awesome). To the best of my knowledge cigarette sales have decreased and cigarette smoking is at an all time low, but that doesn’t discredit the fact that there are millions of cigarette …show more content…
Toni is my girlfriend of three years, she has light caramel skin, she flaunts long black curly hair, she is short, has dark brown eyes and carries the most alluring smile I 've laid eyes on. We have no plans for the rest of the night so most likely, we will stay home, cuddle under warm covers and watch 80s slasher/horror flicks to get us in the Halloween spirit. Before I begin to get comfortable, I feel my cell phone vibrate inside my front jean pocket. If I 'd have to guess who it is, I 'd say it’s a text message from my best friend Denny. I 'm right. Before reading Denny 's text message, I assume he will ask what Toni and I are doing. He does. I reply to him, "we are watching movies" and before he responds back, I assume he will invite us to go with him and his girlfriend Jessica to the haunted houses. Once again, I am right. Toni is more than ecstatic after she finds out where we 've been invited to, my demeanor on the other hand shows the contrary. I simply don 't see the point of spending large amounts of money to freeze long hours in line, only to be howled at by people dressed up in cheap costumes. If I wanted to be scared, I 'd throw some David Cronenberg films on my Blu-ray player and turn all the lights off. However, being that I love my girlfriend and friends so much, I agree to …show more content…
Smelling like cigarettes isn 't as big of a deal as having our lungs collapse when breathing it. Another thing public smokers don’t take into consideration, are the people with asthma. Millions of people around the world suffer from asthma, a respiratory state in which the airways become inflamed to a point so narrow that the air traveling into the lungs become almost unreachable. So when smokers decide to spark a cancer stick around a pedestrian, they aren 't thinking of the person next to them or in what way the cigarette smoke polluting the air is going to affect them. What if the smoker was smoking next to a person with asthma? Well, the cigarette smoke can inflame the lungs, an already inflamed airway and that cause an asthma attack. All in all, people who smoke shouldn’t need to be aware of anyone 's condition to consider weather or not to smoke when in public. There are hundreds of designated smoking places to go to when that urge comes knocking and the people who don’t smoke shouldn’t need to hold their breath whenever they pass someone who is
Smoking is terrible, or science has yet to discover any medical advantages connected with it. You'd have a hard time discovering somebody that would contend against this thought. While most normal individuals comprehend this idea, there is Surgeon General the United States, who has a message stamped on each tobacco item sold in the country. On the off chance that stopping is the point then we as a general public need to go for the proverbial jugular, and that is smoking tobacco is fatal. In promotion crusades and print ads we see numerous obstructions that would ideally keep individuals from smoking cigarettes. From "not being cool" to "yuck, you possess an aroma similar to cigarettes", what's being sugarcoated is the moderate demise that every drag from a cigarette brings on the human
Cigarettes have become a national icon, as big as the likes of cooperating giants such as Coca-Cola, as people are familiar with the idea of smoking from such a young age, becoming so addicted and subservient to seeing the act as normalcy in modern day America. Therefore certain solutions are needed to, at the very least, help make this icon less harmful to this country’s health. Both online articles, “Are Herbal and ‘Natural’ Cigarettes Safer?” by Ennis Thompson Jr.’s and “Marlboro Introduces Vitamin-Infused Cigarettes” by The Daily Currant argue that the so called “healthy” or “natural” cigarettes actually have a few health benefits and are only just a way to slow down the dangers of smoking. The Daily Currant makes a valid argument through
Smoking has become a big epidemic in the United States. As a tobacco free person, I want to be able to breathe clean air anywhere I go. As we know, smoking can harm every organ in the body (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). I believe that smoking should be banned in public places such as drinking establishments, hospitals, buses, train stations, and restaurants. Not only does smoking affect the individual smoker, it also causes a number of health problems, increases death rate, and it affects not only the lives, but the health of other people around them. On the contrary, smoking should be banned in public areas for these reasons.
People throughout the time have been worried about some acts that people make; these acts are sometimes performed unconsciously or without realizing these are affecting they negatively affect others. Some reasons why this happens, they do not realize they are making someone uncomfortable, or they simply do not care about it. Smoking is one of these activities. For a long time, smoking in public places has been extremely popular regardless of age or gender. Many smokers believe they are free to smoke wherever and whenever they. Even if they realize the damage they are causing to themselves, which is a personal decision, when they smoke in public places they ignore the collective damage they are causing others. It has been claimed that despite not engaging in the activity themselves, “passive smokers suffer the same horrifying bad consequences as active smokers” in the form of second-hand smoke (Ecobichon & Wu, 1990, p. 43). Smoking is thus a dangerous activity that is becoming more and more popular in campus every day and is becoming a social and educational problem. Schools should ban smoking from their campus, and those that have should implement stricter methods of enforcing such rules.
Some actions should be taken on tobacco products because the risk of getting cancer is high. People vape everywhere in today’s society, blowing a massive amount of smoke that lingers in the air and could cause people nearby to cough or even children near it to cough. There needs to be a policy to ban cigarettes, it kills the smoker, in addition, it could kill the person exposed to the smoke from cigarettes. “The cigarette is also a defective product, meaning not just dangerous but unreasonably dangerous, killing half its long-term users” (Proctor). Cigarettes are not healthy in any way making it a defective product, it mainly kills the smoker rather than helping them.
Experiencing the death of a loved one is never easy, especially when the cause is something self-inflicted, such as cigarettes. Imagine if that loved one was your parent or even worse, your own child. Now, imagine watching the demise and physical incapacities that transpire while you see them deteriorate right in front of you. Feel the anger that would coarse through your veins if you were to see an add that glamorized such deadly instruments, particularly once you realize that the areas being marketed are lower class. Cigarettes are legal killers that cripple many individuals and families alike. They are a highly addictive substance that benefit no one. I am against cigarettes in every capacity as I have dealt with the effects of it on a personal level. Cigarettes leave a distaste in the mouth literally and figuratively. I am also a firm believer that
This year alone cigarettes will kill over 420,000 Americans, and many more will suffer from cancers, and circulatory and respiratory system diseases. These horrible illnesses were known to come from cigarettes for years. Recently the Food and Drug Administration declared nicotine, the main chemical in cigarettes, addictive. This explains why smokers continue to use cigarettes even though smokers are aware of the constantly warned about health dangers in cigarettes. Some researchers have also found out that smoking by pregnant women causes the deaths of over 5,000 babies and 115,000 miscarriages. The only way to get rid of the suffering and loss of life by cigarettes is to ban them. . For years cigarettes have been known to cause cancer, emphysema, and other horrible illnesses. The deaths of over 420,000 of Americans this year will be do to cigarettes. With all the other causes of deaths, alcohol, illegal drugs, AIDS, suicide, transportation accidents, fires, and guns, cigarettes still count for more deaths than those do combined. We can’t stand and watch people die because they smoke cigarettes. Thousands of smokers try to rid themselves of cigarettes but can't because of additive nicotine. Nicotine was recently declared addictive by the Food and Drug Administration, which explains why many smokers continue to smoke despite the health warnings on cigarette smoking. Nicotine makes it almost impossible for cigarette smokers to quit smoking because of its addictive nature, and with the cigarette manufacturers putting just enough nicotine in the so they cant be outlawed. The benefits of outlawing cigarettes greatly outnumber the disadvantages, for example, many scientists believe a link between smoking and a shortened life span exists between the two, a ban on cigarettes could increase life spans. Many studies suggest that billions of dollars now spent on smoking related. Smoking related illnesses could be reduced by outlawing cigarettes, families could save money by not purchasing cigarettes, and accidental fires costing millions of dollars caused by cigarettes would stop. Although a complete ban on cigarettes currently remains almost impossible, several organizations recently helped create a bill that could control cigarettes much in the same way the government now controls drugs. One such organization, the Food and Drug Administration, headed by David Kesslar drafted a major part, which would require manufacturers to disclose the 700 chemical additives in cigarettes, reduce the level of harmful chemicals, require cigarette companies to warn of the addictive nicotine, restrict tobacco advertising and promotion, and control the level of nicotine cigarettes contain.
Cigarette smoking is very harmful for both smoker, non- smokers and the environment. People who smoke in just show how inconsiderate they are towards others. Even the people who do not smoke in public places are selfish. They do not consider the affect smoking might have on them and how that will affect their family and the environment. Cigarettes cause hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths each year and that is why cigarettes need to be made illegal.
Smoking can negatively affect your system in just a few days, and over time, smokers rarely think about the greater dangers, such as lung cancer, skin cancer, and birth defects. Although I don't smoke, I am still aware of these dangers and try to keep myself away from situations where I am surrounded by smoke. The majority of people don't know that breathing in second-hand smoke is actually worse than smoking a cigarette. People who are constantly surrounded by smokers in places such as bars and restaurants are affected by the smoke they breathe in. While people assume that inhaling smoke straight from the cigarette is worse than secondhand smoke, they forget that the smoker has a filter that holds back some of the toxins that people around them can easily breathe in.
In my opinion, I think smoking in public isn’t good for non-smokers because if they breathe the smoke of smokers their health will be unhealthy a...
but also those around him or her, they should not be allowed to smoke. around other people in public. Smoking in public places causes a considerable amount of harm to people and the government should be doing more to protect citizens. Cigarettes are full of many harmful substances and if many people know what they were inhaling, they would probably quit immediately. Cigarette smoke contains thousands of chemicals, over sixty of which.
In recent years, smoking has started to take over the lives of many teenagers. The number of teenagers smoking has increased dramatically in the last several years. This is a major problem because smoking can lead to sickness and major diseases that can lead to death. Teens tend to participate in this while out of the presence of an adult figure. Although teens should not be smoking in the first place, an adult figure should be around to help insure that their children are doing the right things, even when they are behind sealed doors with their peers. Teenagers as they mature become a model for younger children and when they set the example of smoking can ruin their respectable image to the children that look up to them.
One of the biggest problems that people are faced with on a day-to-day basis is cigarette smoke. The sole cause for 480,000 deaths each year just in the United States is accredit to cigarettes(CDC). For a lot of the smokers the habit of smoking happens to assist them when under stress and dealing with issues that are unmanageable. Some smoke to appeal to their peers or simply because it “feels good.” Smoking one cigarette can lead to a major addiction. The effects of smoking hurt oneself and those amongst us. Smoking cigarettes is a very deadly addiction that, unfortunately, 42.1 million adults in the United States and 6.4 million children have. The reason why so many people get addicted to cigarettes because of nicotine. Medicinenet.com says that nicotine is “Made by the tobacco plant or produced synthetically.
