Fear is a powerful emotion. Wikipedia.com describes fear as “an emotion induced by threat perceived by living entities, which causes a change in brain and organ function and ultimately change behavior, such as running away, hiding or freezing from traumatic events.”Most people tend to avoid fearful situations, not realizing that something positive may come out of the event or experience. Victor Villaseñor focuses on the topic of fear in his novel titled Burro Genius. Villaseñor demonstrates to readers how growing up he was extremely fearful of any situation. Victor also tells his readers how he turned his fear into motivation into motivation to keep going and reach his ultimate goal of becoming a published author.
Human's fears should not be taken lightly. Fear could do anything to one's minds, though without fear, man can be as savage as animals. In the book Lord of the Flies, William Golding presented fear of the unknown to be a powerful force in a man's mind. Fear of the unknown is a powerful force, which can turn to either insight or hysteria. The kids feared of not being rescued off of the island, so they made signal fires on top of the mountain. Then, there and gone, Roger's fear of the old rules he abided to. Also, there were the fears of the beast which confused and isolated the kids from the top of the mountain.
Fear has controlled the world and shaped humans into what they are now. New technologies have been created, because of the fear humans have. Over time new fears have evolved, and illnesses occurred due to anxiety and depression from these fears. The terror that runs through each individual is different. Without fear there would be no evolution or protection.
Fear is something that has helped keep mankind and other animals alive. I believe that many of our fears have been caused by evolution. Take, for instance, some peoples fear of snakes. Many individuals hold a fear of them. For some their fear could have been triggered by an experience they had as a child, like stepping on a snake while playing in the backyard. However, for most individuals they do not have an actual reason for their fear other than their distaste for how they look and feel. Why could that be? Well at one-time human beings survived mostly outdoors without the protection of heavy duty shelters and were susceptible to snakes and other creatures. Not having scientists around to classify whether a snake was venomous or not, humans just became fearful of them all and either avoided or killed the snakes they came across. This behavior would then be passed on to their offspring and would continue down the line until individuals began to realize that snakes were not the biggest predator out there and their fears began to shrink. Nevertheless, that fear still lingers in the back of many individual’s minds and dictates how they react to snakes whether in real life or on screen. The evolution of fear is what has kept mankind alive and what will continue to keep mankind alive. Without it we would probably jump off that bridge with our friends or pet that cute little shark we see in the water next to
Fear motivates many people to act upon matters, right or wrong. This emotion has been important in many events in both works of literature, and in the real world. It has forced military geniuses into retreat, and influenced them to plan another method of attack. Fear can be both a positive and a negative acting force in one’s life, a quality that can motivate one to success as well as to downfall.
Fear is a feeling of danger, threat, or scary situations.Fear of heights, claustrophobia and water all occur mainly from traumatic events in our lives and we are scared of them for the rest of our lives. Fear is a chain reaction with the brain that prepares us to react to danger. If our brain senses a danger, our body then releases certain hormones and they mainly slow down or even shut off functions that we don’t need in order to survive. When we sense danger our heart race increases rapidly, and blood flows to our muscles so we can get away from the danger by running. The cells in our brain are constantly transferring information and responses, but there are five different section of the brain that play roles in developing fear. The first part is the thalamus, it decided where the sensory data is going to be sent to. The second is the sensory cortex, interprets the sensory data. The third part is the hippocampus, which stores and receives conscious memories. The fourth is the amygdala, where our emotions are stored, so when we are in fear it determines threat and stores fear memories. Lastly is the hypothalamus, determines fight or flight which is a response to perceive a harmful event. One way to overcome a fear is to be exposed over and over again, then eventually the fear will dwindle away. Which is exactly how the Dauntless face their fears. In order to get over them, they had to be
Webster defines fear as “an unpleasant, often strong emotion caused by expectation or awareness of danger”. Fear is unavoidable, and it is an inclination that everyone possesses; from a small child to an elderly man and every human in between. There are myriad fears that may develop over a lifetime, but all fears are an innate response to perceived danger. When a danger is perceived the human body responds to protect itself and the consequences of the body’s response are what make people hate being scared. Fear can transform into a controlling factor in people’s lives as they experience fear continually making them feel overwhelmed and anxious, so they begin to avoid it altogether and start to miss out on life.
Fear influences people to make irrational decisions and take extreme measures. Often times, these actions are done to protect one’s reputation. Fear causes people to lie and manipulate to those they care about in order to escape what they are scared of most. Fear of failure has caused higher levels of anxiety, and has made society put blame on each other, rather than owning up to their mistakes. Fear can also cause one to forget one’s true identity and lose one’s values. There are two options that one can take when being faced with a fear: run away from the fear, or go through it and learn a valuable lesson in the end that will make you a stronger person. Fear is a harmful emotion that everyone has to go through in order to succeed.
In the words of Bertrand Russell, “Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom” (Russell). Fear causes many problems in our lives. Fear influences many of a person’s actions and decisions. However, people usually regret the decisions or actions they made out of fear. Also, these actions and decisions can cause problems for those people in their future. Fear is a harmful emotion, for it clouds people’s judgement, disables them from taking action, and causes them to make decisions that they will regret later.
Fear is a disgusting emotion, which causes humans to do the unthinkable. Why do humans have fear? Why do we need an emotion that causes nothing but chaos and negativity? Do we need fear to stop us from being reckless, but doesn’t that just hold us back from doing what we truly want to do? In “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding, the concept of fear is clearly demonstrated in the novel in a fascinating way. The three scenarios fear is used within the novel are: is when the author introduces the “beastie”, when Simon encounters the Lord of the Flies, and when Piggy states how we as humans can become afraid of people.
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself “was said by Franklin. D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt believed it is important to master and control our fears, not letting them control us, since allowing fear to conquer one’s mind is dangerous in every aspect. Fear overpowers the human mind and can cause an individual to lose all sense of humanity. In the novel, “Lord of the flies” by William Golding the young group of boys on the island transition from civilised to savage behaviour due to their fear for power, the unknown wonders of the island, and the fear within each and every one of them.
Many things motivate a person, but the strongest motivator is fear. Fear is a primal instinct that helped our ancestors survive. If an individual survived a bad experience, it helps them to avoid them in the future. People can fear injury,
However, people overcome their pointless fears everyday by learning how to get over what they are fearful to. Our organs are able to detect many emotions that can send signals to our brain and body that produce fear. The Limbic System catches the triggered emotions of fear and then triggers many attitudes. This makes us act the way people do when they are scared. Moreover fear is very interesting and scientific, but they also have to look at the factors of how to keep our bodies

The trade off between liberty and security is a very difficult topic due to the fact that many people want to have both to the full extent without giving up anything for one or the other. Personally, I prefer to have liberty over security any day. In my opinion, it is a case of the foot in the door phenomenon because if we give up small liberties here and there, then eventually we will be giving up non-negotiable rights. For example, with gun laws and the recent shooting. Policeman are sworn to protect and for many people, they aren't complying and as a result people, mainly liberals, are protesting to push for new legislation in Congress. However, conservatives are saying that that would infringe upon their civil liberties and are unwilling
