Earth, a planet with many issues, issues that cannot all be solved. This planet is heavily polluted and the only way to survive is if we either live a advanced life style with new technology that can support life or we find another planet that can sustain life. People say it’s a waste to fund money in space exploration because we don't know what's out there, isn't that why we explore space? People say that our technology is limited, wouldn’t our technology advance if we continue to fund space activities?
People believe that we invest too much in space exploration. However, the funding helps create more job opportunities for people in the field of science and technology which helps them support their family and fight against the problem of unemployment. The government has committed up to $379 million over the next 8 years starting in 2017 to meet Canada's commitment to its international partners in support of the International Space Station until 2024. Canada's in the top 10 for most contributions with the ISS.

They have improved our lifestyle on earth which include, solar panels to implantable heart monitors, from cancer therapy to lightweight materials, and from water purification systems to improved computing systems and to a global search. Dextre is a space robot which performs repairs and maintenance tasks on the International Space Station. Dextre descended and was inspired by the Canadarm. The hands have special sensors that can detect actions such as pull, push, direction and direction. Researchers are making prototypes of Kids-Arm is technology based on Dextre used on earth. It is a image guided robotic surgical arm for pediatric surgery. Kids-Arm is much faster and accurate than a surgeon's arm, and less painful for the
The Canadarm is about to introduce its new and improved sibling. Back in 1987, when documents were signed between countries to work towards a permanently manned Space Station, Canada agreed to provide a Mobile Servicing System (MSS). The MSS will be an integral part of the Space Station from the beginning, it will be used in the assembly, maintenance and servicing of the Station. In return, Canadians will be able to have full use of the Station and will assist with its management.
The government gives NASA $16 billion every year. That is only 7% of the federal government’s budget, which is $2.8 trillion. To put it in perspective, for every $2800 of federal government budget, $16 goes to NASA. With more funding, NASA could launch more telescopes, explore other galaxies, and pinpoint exactly where an asteroid will strike. Citizens of the United States of America believe that a huge percent of their taxes go to NASA. The truth is, only one percent of taxes go to scientific research, and half of that goes to NASA. For someone earning $100,000 a year, $1000 goes to scientific research, with half of that going to NASA, only $500. The benefits of continuing to fund NASA, far outweight the costs. Michael Massimino, one of NASA’s astronauts says it best, “you have bills to pay, but you always want to put something away for your kids college fund. NASA is like a college fund, we are the future” (Massimino 1).
Knowing the impermanence of the Earth, do humans have a moral obligation to find and
Why We Should go to Mars “It was obvious to me that we could never colonize Mars without reusability, any more than America would have been colonized if they had to burn the ships after every trip,”(Dave, 2017). This is what Elon Musk said in an interview in Fortune Magazine on December 9th 2013. The fourth planet in our solar system, Mars, is the closest “Earth-like” planet, Which is why SpaceX, NASA, and many other organizations are trying to make a human trip to Mars possible, as well as learning many things about Mars and Earth at the same time. Mars has a lot of potential to be a habitable planet to continue the human race.
The ethical implications of space exploration and colonization are a widely debated topic, many people have begun to question what ethical right we have to colonize another planet given the way humans have polluted and destroyed our own planet. This assertion is somewhat logically flawed in that rapidly increasing population and urbanization are largely responsible for the damage being done to the natural environment, and colonation of other planets would drastically reduce these problems by giving humans more environments to inhabit and draw resources from.
For example, due to NASA’s involvement in the International Space Station program they were able to send an astronaut up into space and live there for an entire year, creating a new record for a single person to be living in space. They are currently studying how the astronaut was effect due to living in space for a year. They are comparing his body’s reactions on being back on Earth to the body of his twin brother, who stayed on Earth. It is apparent that NASA is trying to figure out the safest way for humanity to live in space for long durations of time. Another instance where humanity is benefits from the International Space Station program is the use of technology that was developed for the space program can now be used for eye surgery. It helps accurately perform the surgery with almost no malfunctions or errors. Finally, due to the space station, people can observe disasters that happen on Earth. The book International Space Station: Benefits for Humanity explains that this is important because “The SERVIR project [NASA/US Agency for International Development] provides satellite data and tools to environmental decision makers in developing countries and operates” (n.d.). Hence, this demonstrates the idea that we, as a society, can make accurate and helpful decisions when it comes to helping the environment and in turn ourselves. NASA is already in the process of helping humanity even more by creating a plan for the
Competition Another great thing that comes with space exploration is competition. Competition is what makes the world discover all these new advancements in technology and keeps new ones coming. In the article, New Space Race, Patrick Marshall says, “Further complicating U.S. space strategy is China's rapid rise as the third major space power. China launched its first astronaut into space in 2003. Since then, it has landed a rover on the moon, placed its own space lab into orbit and boosted its space spending to an estimated $110 million in 2015.”
As a country we need to start investing more money and research into space technology. Programs currently exist for this effort, but the potential for research and progress is limited by a lack of funding; compared to other government funded programs, aerospace funding is pitiful. Continued research in space technology is a necessary step in our growth and development not just as a country but also as entire human race. If we are to achieve this goal, it is necessary to increase funding for space research and technology and consider the possibility of colonizing outer space. If we limit our existence to the planet Earth, and continue to drain the resources on this planet, we will destroy the only home we have.
The continued advancement of our technology now and in the future, will help better our way of life here on earth and in outer space. The ISS will continue to venture outer space to provide research opportunities with conjoined efforts and continued relationships with the participating countries.
Clearly, the long list of inventions and innovations just seen disproves the claim that NASA and space technologies have no positive impact on American lives is utterly false, but what about the money? Finally, NASA should continue to receive funding (and actually receive more) because of its undeniable positive affect on our economy. The stimulation of private industry, job creation, and an incredible economic payback makes NASA worth every penny and more. NASA helps private companies and encourages economic growth by doing most of the research and testing for private industry. NASA creates high quality products because of the harsh demands of space, this means that private companies don 't have to spend as much money on research and development and can just do what they do best-production (The American Space Program –Why Invest in It?). NASA employed about 15 times the number of workers as the largest employer in Connecticut, United Technologies Corporation. Although the largest 25 companies in Connecticut collectively employ about 178,152 people, NASA still employed about 412,700 employees in it’s golden age. That is about 2.3 times as many people working for NASA as all top 25 employers combined. Experts estimate that “for every dollar the U.S. spends on Research and Development in
The continuation of space exploration is vital to the human race, because it is a clear expression of man’s desire to expand and advance in knowledge and experience. The launch of the International Space Station is among one of the space programs greatest achievements. “On January 25th, 1994, The International Space Station was the highlight of a moment brimming with promise“ (Logsdon, 2008 p.237). This moment not only helped to define both technology and the economy as successful beneficiaries of Space Exploration, but also as a historically inspirational scientific development. I support continued space exploration because the discoveries and innovations that have developed from space exploration research, have made a tremendous technological and economic impact on the United States, justifying its costs. I will elaborate on these advances and discoveries in this research paper.
$3.3 billion, the cost of sending American astronauts to the International Space Station on a Russian rocket, the Soyuz. Even though the United States was instrumental in fabricating and installing major components of the International Space Station (ISS), the United States is now reliant on the Russian space program to send Americans to the ISS. Recent budget cuts by the Obama administration and the Senate have resulted in the NASA budget having its lowest percentage of the national spending since 1959. It is estimated the cost per seat on a Soyuz rocket is about $82 million, and this number will continue to rise until 2018. Although some people have argued raising NASA's budget is a waste of money, the benefits of increasing the budget are

(Harry, L. 2014) The Space Station will focus on research in experiment modules which range from biology, physics, astronomy, and meteorology. The goals of this research include developing an understanding of, and the technology to deal with, long-term human presence in space, developing methods for the more efficient production of materials, developing new ways to treat disease, achieving more accurate measurements than is possible on earth, and a better understanding of the universe. (Harry, L.
The earth is considered as one of the most beautiful planets in the universe. It is the only planet in our galaxy that has enough water to support life. Unfortunately our planet is suffering due to many problems which should be solved before it is too late. The major problems that are facing our world today are population, pollution and animal extinction.
