Picture yourself after a hard day of work going to bed knowing that you have made a total of £76,000 today. For Neymar da Silva Santos Junior this is a reality. Neymar was Barcelona’s left winger before he got sold to Paris Saint German(PSG) for a staggering £200,000,000. Yes, you read that correctly TWO HUNDRED MILLION POUNDS. He makes approximately £537,000 a week after tax. that adds up to a whopping £28m in a year for kicking a ball around a football pitch for 90 minutes. This amount of money is disgusting, revolting and sickening as there are police officers, fire fighters and soldiers risking their lives to save the lives of others. These professions which are beneficial to our everyday lives get paid less a year of what so footballers …show more content…
Currently in the world we have issues like world hunger, we have diseases that cannot be cured like cancer, how do we find a cure? We need money for research. Instead of footballers taking home a bag filled with £300,000 some of that money could go towards research and bringing equality to the world like giving children in less developed countries a chance in a positive future by funding schools. Don’t get me wrong not all footballers are money-hungry, greedy, pigs there are some footballers who are very charitable. Mario Balotelli. Italy’s forward. At a young age Balotelli was abandoned by his family in Ghana and in his words, he was adopted by “two angels”. Balotelli give 50% of his salary to the children in Africa as well as doing other very charitable things like donating money to help build a secondary school in the war zone part of Sudan. Lots of other big names like Ronaldo and Messi are also very charitable. All footballers should be charitable not just to get some extra fame but to know that they are making a change in the world for the
Players do not deserve the money they receive. There are people who do much more than the players do. Why do teachers not get paid millions of dollars to teach kids? Some of those kids end up going on to become professional athletes. Police officers and firemen risk their lives to keep people safe and most of them do not even make any more than 95 thousand dollars a year (Megerian). These athletes get fined more money than that and hand it over like someone just asked them for one dollar. Players have all of this money and do not even do anything worth earning it. Why do they get this money? It is because fans value athletes more than the important things in life like education and family.
I have decided to write a response paper to Ekow N. Yankah’s: “Why N.C.A.A. Athletes Shouldn’t Be Paid”. Although I enjoyed reading his perspective, I do not agree with his statement which addresses that student-athletes shouldn 't get paid. Universities are using their student-athlete’s popularity to promote their athletics program while the student-athletes are unable to promote their own image. Student-athletes work hard day in and day out, basically like having a full time job. Which makes time is also very limited during the day for student athletes to get a real job to pay for the extra expenses that they need. Also, most of the time coaches will not allow the student athletes to work, because of their conflicting schedules with practice.
Now compare that to Messi who can't even pay off his tax; he goes to court every year to pay his taxes a year after tax salary. Cristiano Ronaldo also has a unique contract with Real Madrid where he is getting paid £288,000 a week (after tax salary), costing Real Madrid over £500,000 a week to have him in the squad. Ronaldo is also the most endorsed footballer and currently has the fourth most lucrative endorsement deal in sports with Nike worth £14.1 million a year ($21 million) plus a number of other deals. Ronaldo also has CR7 branded with clothing and shoe lines plus $80 million worth of CR7 hotel projects in four different
Professional athletes are highly overpaid. Compensation should be based on job importance, not entertainment. If vital, life-saving professions are not rewarded for the stress of their jobs, there may come a day when those jobs are much harder to fill. Pay the individuals who make a difference in the
College sports have grown over the years, earning billions of revenue every year. However, what may seem surprising is that the athletes involved do not get a single penny earned from the revenue. These college sports require tremendous time and determination due to long hard practices along with rigorous course works. And due to the lack of time, athletes don’t often have the time for part time jobs that allow them to earn money to buy things they need or want for their personal life. Therefore, college athletes have every right to be paid for their hard work.
Peyton Manning makes over 18 million dollars in a single year for going out in the public eye and playing a simple sport for the amusement of others. That’s more than most people can make in a lifetime. Should we really be paying Peyton Manning 18 million to play a 16 game season, when others are barely making $17,000 to support themselves? That is isn’t practical or fair at all considering a firefighter makes an average of $43,000 a year. Yes, that number is true. A man who goes out and risks his life on a daily basis to protect others makes a significantly less salary than a pro athlete that entertains the masses. We are just barely scratching the surface of this dilemma. Alex Rodriguez earned $33 million dollars last year in Major League Baseball. How could someone ever spend $33 million on himself? It’s crazy to think America puts most of its attention and money into entertainment, when people are homeless, starving, or living on welfare. But as long as LeBron James can spend $3,000 on a suit and tie he’ll probably wear once and play head to head against other athletes, are satisfied. There’s a lot of money being circulated between giant franchises in the sports world, but honestly how much do you really need to be paid to live a comfortable, sustainable life.
The NFL need to improve their safety on players that play in the NFL. Also for the men that play in the NFL and take all them hits they deserve more money then what they get. Most players in the NFL catch brain disease once they leave the NFL. Also most NFL players go broke when they retire out the NFL. NFL players get on drugs while they in the NFL which hurts them when they retire. The NFL has bad effects on the players of the game during and after there career.
Scandals have emerged and rules has been broken in NCAA. The NCAA has a history of scandals from several universities which hurt the image of the school and especially the ones who was involved in the scandal. All rules broken of the NCAA has consequences and will impact ones who break them. Rules are rules and they must be taken seriously, but are all the rules truly necessary. Due the rules set in the NCAA is that student athletes can not earn any compensation for money. There is history of scandals in which schools and coaching staff have payed students athletes to attend their schools.
Football is a very famous and well-known sport all over the world. Fans go crazy about their favorite clubs and teams play as hard as they can to win the championship. What a lot of people do not talk about is the money aspect of football. Every year football clubs spend millions on buying and selling players, which is called transfers. Apart from that, the amounts of money clubs pay their players, as a salary is outrageous depending on the team. In many leagues, there is the firm belief that spending a lot of money on players leads to success. It is easy to pick out the teams that spend most money on their players since their wage bills are much higher than the rest when compared. Looking at the English Premier League, which consists of 20 different teams, one is able to see how much teams spend on their players. This brings up questions such as: how can we measure how worthy a player is and decide how much to pay them? Or, how do teams decide that a player is good enough? Why do players who seem to be just as good as others get paid so much more? These research questions are all very interesting, though what will be focused on is the relation between success and the amount of money spent on players’ salaries.
The money given to the athletes could be used for more probable causes. Recently Alex Rodriguez of the Texas Rangers signed a contract for 252 million dollars over a span of 10 years. This is enough money to feed the nation's poor for a year or to provide a lot more housing and shelters for the homeless. Others could benefit from the millions being wasted on these athletes. Not because the players don’t earn the money but because it could just be better spent on more important issues in our communities.
Nowadays college athletes are some of the hardest working people in the world. Most of them are riding on a full ride scholarship that covers all expenses of school; plus, they are in a top-end position to make a reputation for themselves in the sporting world. However, there are a lot of problems with how they are being treated in the NCAA. They're working around 40 – 60 hours every week trying to perfect their craft. So, the question is, should college athletes be allowed to get paid by the NCAA.
The salary of professional athletes are always being debated on whether they make too much or it 's the right amount they should make. Some of the athletes do make millions and millions of dollars, but there is some that don 't. Anyways in order to make the millions first an athletes must make it to the professional level. For example in soccer only 1.4% of people actually make it to the professional level. So the rest of the people make it for other sports such as football, basketball, baseball, and others. To be considered a professional athlete you must be getting payed to play a sport. They will be playing for a league and even tournaments and get rewarded with more money if they win. Some may think an athlete
College athletes paid due to the miss education opportunities ,injuries, and being able to support their families with their income potential. College athletes are often considered to be some of the luckiest young students in the world. Most of the time they’re riding on full-fledged scholarships that cover all the costs of school plus, they are in a prime position to make a reputation for themselves in the sporting world and prepare for the big leagues. However, there are a lot of problems with how college athletes are treated, and many students, coaches, team owners and organizational members (such as those at NCAA, or the National College Athletic Association) are demanding reform.Athletes are producing revenues not only for the schools, which gives these students scholarships, but also for shoe companies, television networks, and the conference in which these
Grab a rock, no, grab a gun; instead, grab a hand. Assuming a stance for the community, we have to approach 45’s Oval Office with all intentions nonviolently demanding reformation and justice properly, peacefully, and populated with people of all ethnicities and ages. Having our future leaders and the younger generation, at large, active and influencing is pivotal and will inflict much change for centuries to come. I, having the aspirations to be a future educator, believe that non-violence is currently a revolutionary force in shaping the status of human and civil rights globally. Throughout history, we have seen numerous diversified displays of non-violent acts across the world attempting to prevent and avoid the detrimental factors of war.
Sport has always entertained and influenced our lives. It creates dreams for children and goals for adults. However, many fans are oblivious to the millions they pocket each year. It is without doubt that our sports stars are grossly overpaid. Their annual earnings exceed those we make in a lifetime, even when compared to highly qualified professionals.
