Argumentative Essay: Should Colleges Be Free?

The U.S. Representative for Virginia who is Bobby Scott once said “No one should be denied the opportunity to get an education and increase on their earning potential based solely on their inability to pay for a college education.”(brainyquotes.com). The effect on this quote indicates that everyone must have an opportunity to get education. Which college should be free because many families can’t pay for an college education,free college tuition would create an more educated population, and college tuition is free in other countries. Many families don't have the money to afford either community college or universities. So why shouldn't America? According to the article “Public College Should be Free”, “In Finland, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Mexico, public colleges and universities remain tuition-free. They're free throughout Germany, too, and not just for Germans or Europeans but for international citizens as well. That's why every year, more than 4,600 students leave the United States and enroll in German universities. For a token fee of about $200 per year…”(Sanders 2). This proves that since other countries like Germany give free tuition without any problems by a fee of $200 every year that America should also do it. This results that free tuition must work when 4,600 students enroll in Germany every year, but not just Germany almost all of Europe. In contrast, “ Governments in these countries understand what an important investment they are making, not just in the individuals who are able to acquire knowledge and skills but for the societies these students will serve as teachers, architects, scientists, entrepreneurs and more.”(Sanders 2). This results that it will help the society which the students obtain the jobs they want.
