Throughout history, people have tried to substitute their own reality with a virtual reality. From the stereoscope, I used I used as a child to the flight simulators that pilots used to train for experience of flying a plane, virtual reality has become a staple in society by helping charity to recreational use; and its uses have only expanded over time. From on the job training to shopping simulations, and disability relief; VR has expanded how we look at our own lives. The benefits of VR become absolutely clear when we consider its many public uses. The most important uses we see in VR today are job simulators, and helping others with disabilities.
To begin, multibillion dollar corporations such as Walmart are beginning to use VR to train its employees. In fact Walmart is so

The reason that Walmart is as focused on this training method is because they would like to prepare employees for unlikely circumstances; instructors inform their employees that “they aren’t kidding when they discuss having wall to wall people in the store on holidays” (Jeremy Hsu). The integration of this tech. as a form of on the job training seems invaluable to me. As someone who has experienced black Friday and other holidays in a retail setting. I think that it is ridiculous the way some people act just so they can get a good deal. Any resource that an employer can offer an employee to increase their productivity, and in some cases their safety seems like it can make a great impact on a job experience.
Another benefit that we see from the VR in society today is improving our shopping experiences. As we can probably guess, “Retailers are already beginning to experiment with the potentials of virtual reality to connect with consumers in new and exciting ways”. (Cosco). In China, there are already familiar VR stores. Stores such as Macy’s, and Target. In online, or VR stores, you have to use google cardboard headsets. “Using eBay Shopticals (essentially, Cardboard headsets)
Upon entering the Wal-Mart store, anywhere in America, one can use predictability because all Wal-mart stores have the same look and offer a “one stop shopping” experience. Shoppers expect the same shopping experience found in one Wal-mart to be available at the same price and quality as the next Wal-mart. All Wal-marts run their business the same way. Calculability simply means quantity over quality. Wal-mart doesn’t say they offer the best brands-they offer everyday low prices and return/refund options when the purchased object doesn’t work, falls apart, or doesn’t meet expectations. Efficiency is what Wal-mart prides itself upon. Convienent parking and wheelchairs for handicapped individuals, 20 items or less checkout, large display signs noting where items are located, and departments are just a few examples of how Wal-mart taps into efficiency. Lastly, Wal-mart uses control in all aspects of a customer’s shopping. The “McDonaldization” of control at Wal-mart has become the norm, and a customer may not even be aware of the control. Walking in, one grabs a shopping cart. One pushes from one area to another, up and down the aisles. One selects purchases and then goes through the checkout line, similar to cattle being feed. The Wal-mart worker is controlled by his blue vest and the constant “swiping” of each SKU
Imagine having to work on thanksgiving. Not only do those people miss out on Black Friday, but also miss out on time with your family. They also get to go to work more than likely sleep deprived, deal with unpleasant customers, and constant lines. Curtis West worked as a Macy’s employee. In his 24 years of work for them he had to work a total of 19 Black Fridays. He said it wasn’t bad when Black Friday started off, because it usually meant going in at 5 am on Friday. Now for sto...
Starting the day right after Thanksgiving, everybody’s mind is set on one thing: Shopping. People young and old wake up early in the morning to start their holiday shopping. Everyone is looking for the perfect gift for their family and friends. But nobody cares to think of what the employees at their favorite stores think and feel. Shoppers just come inside and turn the store upside down.
Isidore, Chris. “No Holiday Hiring for Walmart, Just More Hours for Its Workers.” CNNMoney, Cable News Network, 20 Sept. 2017, money.cnn.com/2017/09/20/news/companies/walmart-holiday-help/.
The group will then utilize the material to train others. “Instead of relying on one individual to go through a lengthy training process, Walmart can build a team of instructors and enablers so their training initiatives can be accomplished in a shorter amount of time” (Sokolowski, 2015). Walmart’s Talent Center in Dallas, Texas will be the location where training be implemented in the form of a five day conference. Speakers will include two of the best sought after employee engagement speakers as well as Walmart’s
So now that we have gone through the history, let’s talk about what’s been going on with virtual reality today. What’s it currently being used for. Well like in the past it is still mostly used for entertainment and training purposes. For example when it comes to entertainment we already talked about “Google cardboard”. With the Google cardboard you can kind of go on a virtual tour of different places around the world. Another example of entertainment would be Sony’s Playstation VR which we also talked about earlier.
Video games. They provide an escape from reality to explore worlds and realms beyond our own. However there is a lot of controversy surrounding wether or not video games are good for you, many people are under the impression that video games turn kids and adults alike into mindless zombies hellbent on violence but in this essay I aim to convince you that not only is this untrue but that video games are actually beneficial. I’d also like to mention that too much of anything is bad for your health, for example extremely high quantities of broccoli can be toxic.
Virtual Reality (VR) is a constantly evolving technology, whose use in the field of mental health is a challenge at the deontological level. Barfield, Zeltzer, Sheridan, & Slater (1995) define VR as a tri-dimensional computer-generated interactive and multi-sensory environment in which a person is immersed. The concept of immersion in virtual reality is different from the presence in virtual reality (Patterson, 2010). Immersion refers to the involvement in the virtual environment due to objective stimulatory conditions (Eichenberg, 2011) ensured by specialized technology. Stimulation involves a model for the presentation of reality in which the model created may be mistaken with reality. The virtual reality is based on stimulation and it helps

Although still in its, infancy, virtual reality will have a substantial effect on our future way of life. Virtual reality already has made astounding progress in the world of commercial design, and it is predicted to have a tremendous impact on everyday life as well. Virtual reality, when more available, will have various uses ranging from recreation to basic communication. The applications of virtual reality into different fields of occupations and research will have both positive and negative effects on our society.
Someone is sitting on a stage with people clapping and people cheering, but they didn’t sing or dance, they did magic while playing a video-game. This is competitive gaming. People can see and know that gaming is fun. They are playing a sport. Some disagree with this, but many other people believe it is. The players must go to the gym for fast reactions and stamina and must be very mentally focused, and just agree to stick with the trends as well. Video gaming should be a sport.
middle of paper ... ... “Enjoyment”, which means consumers’ perceptions regarding the potential entertainment of internet shopping, reflects the hedonic motivation of online shopping (Monsuwe et al., 2004). Rather than the completion of a shopping task, online shopping itself is fun and playful. With this advantage, consumers find “enjoyment” in online shopping.
But in the use of the term “technology” today, there is far more associated meaning than automobiles or washing machines. It has ushered in an entirely new way of working, and in increasing numbers of organizations, increased options of just where work associated with a particular job will be done. More employees than ever have the option of working at home yet still being employed either full...
If you are one of those who are still hesitant in getting into the whole Virtual Reality mania then it’s time to let go and join in the fun! As you now know virtual reality is not just a tool for enjoyment but also can be used for education and learning in ways we never could have
To remain competitive and employable in the twenty-first century workplace, society today must conform to the changing demands. Technology is one of the principal driving forces of the future; it is transforming our lives and shaping our future at rates unprecedented in history, with profound implications, which we cannot even begin to see or understand.
