As I work my way through the multiple layers of my Nonny’s standard overly-taped wrapping job, I catch my first glimpse of the word “Star.” Perfect. I feel a sense of relief engulf my seven year old body. Just as I asked for, that Star Wars Lego set showed up under the tree. As I continue to pry the wrapping paper off the box, it quickly becomes evident that my assumption was false. This is not what I asked for. “Starry Night.” Astronomy software for my PC? Why, Nonny? In my disappointment, I never thought that I’d be thanking her ten years later. Spending hours upon hours exploring the far reaching stars and nebulae, first in the software, and then with my dad’s telescope, I had been quite literally starstruck by our impressive universe.
However, while searching through 360 degrees of my mind, no path forward for my quite nebulous interest presents itself. For now, I am stuck in a drab world with foggy windows that only clear when the sun goes down, presenting an entirely different world - one of beauty, one of serenity. As soon as the sun comes up, I am instantly back. This cycle replays endlessly, night after night, for years, until I hear the words “Three. Two. One. Zero, and Lift-off of Space Shuttle Endeavour!” crack through my outdated television. I look on with complete concentration and fascination as Barbara Morgan, Idaho’s local astronaut, blasts through the atmosphere and the barriers in my mind. Right here, right now, I am dead set on working for NASA to develop the future of human space travel to Mars and beyond. As a participant in the college level Idaho Science and Aerospace Scholars program, I was able to do just that. The task seems simple enough: our team must design a mission to Mars. This includes all the necessary components, including launch vehicles, scientific rovers, and Mars habitats. From the moment the clock starts ticking until “liftoff”, we have six days. Our resources? Anyone who we can find and talk to at California’s NASA Ames Research Center, including engineers, scientists, and other researchers. As we piece together our mission plan, I am able to ask accomplished professionals about any questions or further interests that I have. In fact, I am still in contact with several of the brilliant people I met during the program. In the end, after countless setbacks and hours of thought, we tackle the complicated task, and “land” on Mars. In the past, working in the space field was a pipe dream for many. NASA was truly the only major American space organization. As the years pass, however, NASA is no longer the only player in the industry. Day by day, the reality of privatized space travel creeps closer, and now, there are more and more opportunities to get involved and make a difference in future space travel. I will not let my team’s mission to mars be the last space mission I help design.
Four weeks after space-walking shuttle Endeavour astronauts repaired the Hubble Space Telescope in December 1993, an ecstatic Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski waved a Hubble picture of the core of the spiral galaxy M100 at her naysaying colleagues. Today, Mikulski could host a Capitol Hill star party: The orbiting telescope has generated more than 100,000 photos of celestial objects, including a cemetery of dying stars, elephant trunks of dust and hydrogen gas twisting in the Eagle Nebula, jovian storms and aurorae, the rocky rings of Saturn and the colossal supernova smoke rings blown from an exploded star, to list a few. Hubble's pictures do double duty not only as congressional lobbying props, but also as screen savers, T-shirt prints, calendar photos, a background for the "Babylon 5" science fiction TV series and even planet trading cards to be provided soon to schoolchildren.
In Alan Lightman’s, “Our Place in the Universe,” he describes his experiences in the Greek Isles explaining how meek it made him feel to be surrounded by the vast ocean with no land in sight except a small strip of brown in the distance. Great thinkers throughout history, have been exploring the visible variety of shapes, colors, and sizes, though the greatest of these are size, from the smallest atom to gargantuan stars. These massive differences in size change the way we view ourselves in the universe. (470) Garth Illingworth, from the University of California, has studied galaxies more than 13 billion light years away from us.
Two men named Harlow Shapley and Heber Curtis has a debate in 1920 that is still important today for changing how we think about galaxies. They talked about five important things. The first thing they debated was how big our galaxy, the Milky Way, is. Shapley said that the Milky Way was much bigger than we first thought, 100,000 light-years across, and that, because it was that big, it had to be the only one. Curtis said the the Milky Way was smaller than that, and that other galaxies existed past ours. They were both right and both wrong. Shapley was right about the size of the Milky Way, and Curtis was right about there being many more galaxies in the universe.

Throughout Shrek 2 many modern day brands and the celebrity culture we have cultivated are obviously being parodied and mocked. During the movie, when the Fairy Godmother picked the King up to have an talk she had the driver of the flying carriage stop at Friars Fat Boy. Here the place imitates a fast food place such as Mcdonalds, even including a mockery of their famous Kid’s meal with the Medieval Meal. Though in place of the included toy it had a battle ax in its place. Later on there is a red carpet showing being hosted by Medieval Entertainment Television for people arriving at Fiona’s ball. This is a direct reference to E!’s annual coverage of Red Carpet for award shows. The movie segment is even hosted by the late Joan Rivers while the
The extreme brightness of the O-type and B-type stars, coupled with the Earth’s atmosphere, has always made high-resolution imaging of the star-forming region difficult. But recent advances in adaptive optics and the repair of the Hubble Space Telescope have allowed for incredible detail into the center of the dust cloud. 3 The technological advances have also helped reveal several faint stars within the center of the nebula.

Azophi identified a large cloud in the night sky which turned out to be the Andromeda Galaxy.
Steve McCurry should not be on a scandal because he does not have responsibility to deliver actual fact, news material, to viewers because he is a story teller not a photojournalist. Mark Twain, William Shakespeare, Leo Tolstoy, Ernest Hemingway, there are tons of great author who touched readers’ heart. Writers can use excellent choice of words, structure, tones, and other elements to sympathize with readers and to express their story. On the other hand, photographers need to represent their entire story or emotions with single click of shutter of camera. This limitation leads to a controversial argument, whether photographers can use Photoshop or not on their image because Photoshop provides freedom of visual story to photographers.
The first person to ever observe the Milky Way was Greek philosopher, Democritus, who said the galaxy may consist of distant stars. In 1610, Galileo Galilei used a telescope to study the Milky Way and came to the conclusion that it was composed of billions and billions of faint stars. Then, in 1750, Thomas Wright c...
Following sexual allegations made against the well-known actor, Kevin Spacey has been suspended from House of Cards and cut from multiple projects. I think that perhaps one of the most shocking allegations made against Kevin Spacey is that he attempted to seduce Anthony Rapp at the age of 14. At the time they were both on Broadway. Spacey was reportedly having a party and invited Rapp. However, after a while, young Rapp got bored and decided to head to the bedroom to watch tv.
Galaxies; I thought to myself, “It wouldn’t hurt to learn something new.” So, then I decided to write and read about nebulas and galaxies. There are things you may not know about galaxies and nebulas. You may have also thought of questions like, “why are nebulas and galaxies even important to your existence?”, or questions like, “how do they form?” There are many more questions and I might just answer most of your questions. Let’s just say that without galaxies, there would not be a Milky Way, and with-out the Milky Way the solar system would have probably ended up elsewhere.
I was going alone. I caroused through all of the planets and solar system finding the ones that interested me most scanned. There I found a solar system. There was a large sun with a few planets circling it. Most of them revolutionizing with the shape of an ellipse though there was one which seemed to have more of one than all the others. That looked interesting. Resisting the urge I swept through the planets and the belts finding one massive star. The next was a small, at least smaller than the next two. One half was burning while the other was freezing. My scanning signals picked up no life an...
It is in human nature to explore every frontier attainable: from leaving the cradle of civilization in Africa, to the nomadic people crossing the Bering Land Strait to the America’s, and, more recently, the Americans who explored the western part of North America. These acts of exploration have brought new lands to settle, while also producing economic and social benefits to the people or nations that have explored these frontiers. Yet, for millennia, humanity has looked up to the stars in wonder, and it is only now in the past half century that civilization has taken its first steps towards exploring this final frontier. Nevertheless, our species are still far from making deep space travel plausible and reaping the benefits of space exploration. Our universe is astronomical in scale, yet the human race can only see and
Space has always been a pivotal and utmost important subject for many years. In the past, scientists have made monumental advances in this field such as sending people into orbit and landing a man on the moon. Of course, this has only barely been explored and we still have a lot more to see of the ever-vast outer space. One of the most significant topics of all of science has only been touched and there’s still more to come.
