The world is making huge developments in our exploration of space discoveries, and there have been some great ones this year. Every year we gather a little more scientific information of the vastly unknown universe in hopes of further understanding our complex solar system. If you’re a bit behind on the times, here are some groundbreaking space discoveries of 2015.Researchers have found that like living creatures, the universe also ages. Thus, it will also, one day, die. Radio telescopes have achieved higher precision than ever before. Using these, scientists have measured the energy output from 200,000 galaxies. Their findings from this studies conclude that the energy produced by these galaxies is only half of what they were once producing. …show more content…
There are a handful of ways that astronomers are trying to explain this, however they all agree that the nature of this occurrence is bizarre. It has been quoted that the structures appear to be “something you would expect an alien civilization to build.” There is still much speculation as to if this is simply an odd meteor shower, the result of recent large-scale planetary interaction in that area, or alien structures designed to harness the energy of the star. However, scientists are still looking into the latter theory by searching for radio waves around the star.In July of this year, the Kepler Space Telescope gave us another ground-breaking …show more content…
Kepler-452b is so special because, like Earth, it revolves around a G Star in the same size orbit. It also has roughly the same age as Earth. Because of this similar orbit, the level of sunshine that reaches Kepler-452b’s surface is predicted to be suitable for plants to be able to photosynthesize. If plants could (and possibly are) producing oxygen here, it opens up the idea that human or animal life could survive on such a planet. That is, if life isn’t already present…While it was once agreed upon that space was too cold and hostile for water to exist, multiple findings this year have pointed scientists to the fact that it is present in many areas of space. The Mars rover has relayed data that a layer of water is likely to be present under the planet’s visible surface. In addition to the rover’s findings, photos captured (such as the one above) have showed us that although we cannot see the water that is on Mars, it is (or has been) there. The pictures that conclude this data depict mountains that have eroded in a pattern that resemble that of flowing water on Earth. Thus, giving proof that there has been flowing water on
Journal Eleven In “The Telescope Effect” Shankar Vedantam states his theories on why people are so willing to help a single person deal with tragedy. However, when it comes to mass tragedies or terror people seem to shy away from helping or lending a hand. Vedantam seems to bring to light some issues people have in their minds when it comes to who they provide help for. Vedantam in the beginning of the essay tells the story of a Dog named Hokget and how the puppy was abandoned by her owner on a big tanker lost at sea.

There is a cultural assumption that there are many alien civilizations in the universe. However, what do we really know about extraterrestrial life? With recent findings of water on Mars and the discovery of Trappist-1, there could be hope for extraterrestrial life out in the universe. Even though the water on Mars is frozen under the polar ice caps and Trappist-1 could be far from finding any alien life, there are still many articles supporting the research and looking forward to finding additional news. In the article “Could the TRAPPSIT-1 worlds harbor alien life?’ written by Liz Fuller-Wright, she reports the announcement of astronomers that they found a miniature solar system of seven Earth-sized planets. Furthermore, the argument is effective towards bright individuals because it makes one think about what it will be if there was actually life outside of Earth.
They’re carbon stars, a unique type of variable star, which accumulate soot in their upper atmosphere that scatters light near the blue end of the spectrum. What’s left for us to view is the red component of a star’s light. As the carbon particles build up, the star fades in brightness and gets even redder. Eventually, the carbon absorbs enough radiation to escape the star, and the cycle starts over again.
It is without a doubt that the most fascinating thing about space is the possibility of life elsewhere beside Earth. It is estimated that the Milky Way Galaxy itself contains about 300 billion stars. Each star contains planets and some planets might even have moons. With these findings, the question is no longer whether life exists elsewhere. The probability that Earth is the only place where life exists in the universe is far too slim. NASA has identified many planets that have similar conditions to Earth but most of these planets are hundreds of light years away so traveling there to find out if there’s any living organism is not easy. Luckily, scientific evidences have pointed out that one of the moons of Jupiter, Europa, could be one of the places where life can exist. If the theories proposed by astronomers about Europa are true, life on Europa might not even be entirely different than life near the bottom of Earth’s oceans.
There is, however, rising speculation that Mars currently holds ice and possibly flowing water in certain areas on and under the surface. Because of the surface conditions, the water would evaporate very quickly and not be directly visible from space, along with the possible exception of the polar caps, which will be discussed later. Almost all researchers and scientists believe that there is ice on Mars, but the trick is to find it and use it to our benefit.
Justice is the ability of a person to act in a fair way based on their own beliefs or way of acting. Through this justice, a person can make their own choice and try to help others around them. A fair action can help this person look noble, responsible or trustworthy to the people around them. In the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Brutus decides to kill Caesar due to his belief that Caesar is detrimental to the people of Rome. Contrary to Brutus’ belief, Octavius feels that Caesar was a great man so he leads an army against Brutus and the conspirators in Caesar’s name.
The water contained under the soil has had some various effects on the Mars terrain. When the robots were on mars collecting samples, they found some rocks that looked like rocks from prehistoric life here on earth. When analyzing these samples, the scientists deemed that the water was very acidic and salty. This is similar to some of the earlier times in the Australian area.
The modern science view as well as the Scientific Revolution can be argued that it began with Copernicus’ heliocentric theory; his staunch questioning of the prior geocentric worldview led to the proposal of a new idea that the Earth is not in fact the center of the solar system, but simply revolving around the Sun. Although this is accepted as common sense today, the period in which Copernicus proposed this idea was ground-breaking, controversial, and frankly, world-changing. The Church had an immense amount of power, and was a force to be reckoned with; in the beginning of the Scientific Revolution, new scientific proposals and ideas were discouraged in many cases by the Church. A quote from Galileo’s Children does an excellent job summing up the conflict: “The struggle of Galileo against Church dogma concerning the nature of the cosmos epitomized the great, inevitable and continuing clash between religion and reason.” If evidence goes against scripture, the scientist is considered a heretic and is, like in Galileo’s case, forbidden to discuss the ideas any further. Galileo Galilei, who proposed solid evidence and theory supporting the heliocentric model, was forced to go back on his beliefs in front of several high officials, and distance himself from the Copernican model. This, luckily, allowed him to not be killed as a heretic, which was the next level of punishment for the crimes he was charged with, had he not went back on his beliefs. Incredible support was given through the young developing academies with a sense of community for scientists and academics; “Renaissance science academies represent a late manifestation of the humanist academy movement.” Since the Church was grounded traditionally evidence that went agains...
Recently, two probes were sent back and they made it to Mars. They landed on the South Polar Caps of Mars. That is where NASA plans to find water. After landing on Mars, the probes extracted water like crystals from the surface of Mars. They found that there was a small amount of water in the crystals, which means that there is a strong chance that life, was on Mars at one time.
The Universe is a collection of millions of galaxies and extends beyond human imagination. After the big bang, the universe was found to be composed of radiation and subatomic particles. Information following big bang is arguable on how galaxies formed, that is whether small particles merged to form clusters and eventually galaxies or whether the universe systematized as immense clumps of matter that later fragmented into galaxies (Nasa World book, 2013). A galaxy is a massive area of empty space full of dust, gases (mainly 75% Hydrogen and 25%Helium), atoms, about 100-200 billion stars, interstellar clouds and planets, attracted to the center by gravitational force of attraction. Based on recent research, 170 billion galaxies have been estimated to exist, with only tens of thousands been discovered (Deutsch, 2011).
Mars is a very similar planet to earth in relation to size and atmosphere. Therefore it seemed like the most likely place to search for life. At the end of the 19th century, an American named Percival Lowell built himself an observatory so that it was possible for him to study Mars in intimate detail when its orbit was closest to Earth. At this time it had recently been suggested that the planet had a system of channels on the surface, present from the evaporation of flowing water. Looking through his telescope Lowell became convinced he could see a network of artificial canals. This led him to believe that there were intelligent beings on Mars who had built these canals. However, spacecraft have now visited Mars and found that there is no evidence of water at all. It is now thought that the lines he could see were the combination of Lowell's overactive imagination, and scratches on the lens of his telescope. We are now searching one of Jupiter's moons, Europa, as this seems to be the next likely place to hold life.
Since the beginning of astronomy, astronomers had a unanimous goal: to see farther, better and in greater details.
...ws radiation from the sun to expose the surface of the planet, adding to environment changes. If life exists on Mars today, it is most likely hiding beneath the surface. Over the past four billion years Earth has had many rocks blown from the surface of Mars, after much research, scientists say that of the thirty-four meteorites, three have the potential to carry evidence of past life on Mars (Carey, 2006). Researches have gathered evidence and continue to explore for life outside of Earth. Earth has provided these scientists with enough knowledge to understand the components needed to sustain life, therefore any research found is compared to the knowledge already understood about life on Earth. Earth is home to billions of plants, animals, bacteria and all types of living things, it is where human beings have evolved and adapted making this planet our home.
Space has always been a pivotal and utmost important subject for many years. In the past, scientists have made monumental advances in this field such as sending people into orbit and landing a man on the moon. Of course, this has only barely been explored and we still have a lot more to see of the ever-vast outer space. One of the most significant topics of all of science has only been touched and there’s still more to come.
