For the last ten years, give or take, a “new” kind of food has hit the supermarket shelf, organic food. So in case you don’t know what Organic food is, i’ll explain; organic food, is food produced without any pesticides, or additives, we can easily compare organic foods to all types of farming, known to man in the past millennia. Scientist can prove this by using the fact that organic food cannot have any unnatural additives, farmers must combine manure, compost, also other biodegradable materials and organisms. These natural materials that break down into soil that isn’t harmful, like conventionally soil is harmful, since it contains toxic chemicals. Not only is this soil from natural materials not toxic or harmful, but it actually adds positive attributes to organic food, that conventional products don’t typically obtain from their soils(Safer Food). Attributes like: flavonoids, which scientists know to fight cancerous compounds in our bodies(Effects of Diets), but are also able to turn weaker by non-organic pesticides(Organic Diet). Through facts and evidence the educated can change the way humans imagine the food, by making sure supporters of organics, are consuming not only what won't hurt us, but what is best for us, and can lead the human population into a healthier, more natural future. While the everyday person pushes for a world of better living by buying products made only from organics, civilians must also realize that scientists are still finding out about all the negative qualities that come with eating non-organic. In recent years, it is not even necessary to turn on the news to hear about the bad reputation farming has been getting in recent years. With the media focusing on things like drugs in animals and Pink Slime, or Lean Finely Textured Beef, it is a wonder that people are eating “non-organic” foods. However, many pro-farming organizations have been trying to fight back against these slanders. Still, the battle is not without heavy competition, and a good portion of it comes from Chipotle, a fast food Mexican restaurant that claims to only use completely organic ingredients in their food. Chipotle is constantly introducing advertisements claiming to have the natural ingredients, while slandering the names of farmers everywhere.

Pastor says that he is shocked by the impact and wants to break away from the cycle created. In his closing statements he convinces the audience to break away from the cycle away as well, by drawing on the seeds he planted with pathos, ethos, and logos. The film was well made and addressed all the issues of “organic” food and well informed the audience of what is occurring. Next time, an audience member goes to the supermarket to buy food they will probably remember what their children will look like in twenty years if they don’t take a more “organic” approach to their lives.
Steven Shapin is an expert when it comes to telling people the reality of the situation. In his, article “What Are You Buying When You Buy Organic?” Shapin exposes and explains the truth behind the word organic. He explains that our view on organic is not a reality. The small farms that we picture in our heads are really just big business in disguise and these big businesses are trying to do good by supposedly not using harmful pesticides. Which are supposed to not damage the environment but in reality they are probably not making any sort of difference. Some people care about the environment, while others are buying taste when it comes to organic food but using different pesticides are going to help the taste, only freshness tastes the best.
The taste of the processed chicken from my elementary school cafeteria remains imbedded in my memory. I can still taste the chunks of chicken that could not be broken up by my teeth, and the tired, lazy feeling I had walking back to my next class. This is the exact situation organic farmer and producers are trying to avoid by making healthy products. The documentary, In Organic We Trust, attempts to persuade the viewers that organic products create a healthy lifestyle, and improve living conditions for people all over the world. Kip Pastor’s use of ethos and logos in his documentary are strong and provide supporting evidence, however, Pastor is lacking an abundant amount of pathos. Pastor incorporates logos into his documentary by allowing the audience to experience a multitude of facts and supporting evidence. Ethos is used in the film through Pastor’s interviews with professionals, and pathos is shown by the touching stories of individuals.
Americans, as a whole, are fat, over-indulged, lazy, entitled humans. As a whole, yes, yes Americans are all of these things. In 2004, Alison Motluk, a freelance journalist who writes for numerous magazines including the New Scientist, The Walrus, and The Economist, pens an article called “Supersize Me: It’s Time to Stop Blaming Fat People for Their Size.” Motluk blames the food industry for increased portions. Since 2000, sales of organic foods in the United States have grown roughly 200%, and are expected to generate 42 billion dollars in 2014 (“US Organic Food Industry”, para. 1). This makes organics the fastest growing portion of the entire food industry, and worthy of keeping an eye on. The surge of growth was caused in part by the USDA release of its national standards for organic products in 2002, which subsequently prompted consumer demand for food that was healthier and better for the environment, and the popularization of “health food” stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s that market to these consumers (Callard, 2009).
Sub Point A: Conventional food like, fruits, vegetables and animals are grown in farms and can be genetically modified to improve size and quantity. The number of harmful substances obtained from conventional food is a huge problem. Organic food is obtained from animals or crops produced by farmers that avoid man-made fertilizers, additives, growth regulators and pesticides.
Today people are concerned with what they eat in order to lose or maintain their weight. What people do not know is how their food is obtained, how veganism is beneficial to their health and what the food industry thinks of vegans. Veganism is the avoidance of any animal products particularly food. Veganism confronts the issues of animal welfare as well as dietary concerns for humans.
