Someday, preferably within the next few years, I want to master the art of driving a stick shift. I am blessed to have a car of my own, but it, like most cars used in the United States, is an automatic. I have been able to practice driving a manual off-road vehicle during the summer months my sophomore and junior year of high school, but the vehicle does not have many safety features; it does not have any airbags, no power steering, and can go maybe forty miles an hour. Therefore, I have not been on the public roadways with it. Which is probably best for everyone who lives near me well being because I tend to stall the car a lot. I did finally figure out how to start it without stalling, but I have tendency to act like speed racer and shift
When we look at the classic Car image, it reminds us of the experiences that surround our daily lives. The Classic Car image is in black and white which reminds us of the picture realities that held sway some decades ago. I do not readily understand all that transpired in the wreck of this car. However, some points are quite easy to note. It shows that the beauty of every vehicle is not just in its outward design but in its safety features. This shot was taken from one of the vehicles parked in the Alaska Car Museum. There are so many stories that surround the cars in this iconic location.
Los Angeles, California is known worldwide to be a city designed specifically for the use of automobiles. Since Los Angeles County is so expansive, is considered to be one of the largest cities in the U.S and the World. The Government decided to accommodate its landscape very efficiently through the use of freeways by connecting each other from far distances into one by the use of intersections. On the other hand, since the landscape of Los Angeles was made specifically for cars, it has a horrible public transportation that people see car as a necessity rather than luxury. The government has done a magnificent job keeping
In the present time most of the drivers encountered on the open road are driving automatic transmission. Many, if not most, go through their life without knowing how to drive manual transmission. The main reason being because of the necessity of using both feet and having to drive one handed. Learning how to drive both is a skill that will open a new world of opportunities. One never knows if there will ever be a situation that will require a person to know how to drive manual, also known as “stick shift”. Yes the vehicle can turn off on the driver preventing the car to advance, but all it takes is tremendous amount of patience.
In 1890, the railroad took actions towards providing transportation but both whites and blacks. During that year, Louisiana passed a statue called the Separate Car Act. The Separate Car Act stated that all railway companies carrying passengers in their coaches in the state, shall provide equal but separate accommodations for the white, and colored races, by providing two or more passenger coaches for each passenger train, or by dividing the passenger coaches by a partition so as to secure separate accommodations. If you disobeyed this rule by sitting in the wrong spot, you would be written a twenty-five dollar fine or twenty days in jail. A group of blacks raised over three thousand dollars to challenge the act. They chose Homer Plessy, a
The term autonomous refers to the capability of acting independently, or having the freedom to do so. A self-driving car is an autonomous car, which has the ability to sense its environment and navigating without any human operations. These types of cars are built to make safe and smart decisions on the road. In the past years, automobile companies have begun to introduce advanced driver assistance systems that are capable of parking, switching lanes, and braking in case of an emergency on their own, without the driver’s assistance. Automated vehicles are capable of maneuvering through street traffic, as well as other natural and man-made obstacles along the way. Therefore, this technology might completely change the methods of transportation.

There was always times where I just wanted to throw in the towel and call it quits. However, I just knew that my persistence would eventually kick in! Also, I had to accept the fact I would not do so well at first. When I first drove a car, my nerves throughout my body were completely shocked through the roof. It was because I did not know how to do it since I had no previous driving experience. For some people, they like to drive four-wheelers or dirt bikes before driving a car, so they have some experience, but I am not that type of person at all and never will be. So, me and my dad went down to Buckeye Career Center one afternoon for me to practice driving for the very first time in my life. At first, he would go through the course to show me where I would go. The course included turning both left and right, parking into a space, reversing, and many more things. My dad would always say the same things to me: “Turn the wheel, Coast, Brake Earlier.” These are just some of things he stressed to me. Turning the wheel was a problem I had early on because I would always do the wrong technique. I would always turn for part of the way but not all the way. The next thing he would say to me would be is just coast. To be honest, I did not know that a car could do such a thing. Coasting to me seems like taking a little break from driving. Also, I did not know how far you could go when coasting a car. A big thing I learned from my
Again, it makes the headlines; an older driver causes a dangerous automobile crash. As the amount of elderly driving has increased in the past decade, the risk for others to be out on the road has increased. In 2012, there were 36 million licensed older drivers in the United States. (Federal Highway Administration, Department of Transportation (US)) As a 34% increase from 1999, it has been noted that seniors are driving past their ability by an average of 10 years. (Federal Highway Administration, Department of Transportation (US)). Elderly continue to drive despite the prominent physiological changes that worsen as they age. The amount of automobile collisions suggests that prevention must occur in order to make the roads safer. By examining older drivers’ medical complications, older drivers must be retested to be able to drive a vehicle.
Have you ever had to make a decision in your life? I’m pretty sure we all have, the decision can even be what you ate for breakfast in the morning. Robert Frost wrote a poem about a man who has to make an important decision. In the poem “The Road Not Taken”, by Robert Frost, he states, “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood and I - I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference” (Woods). To me taking the road less traveled by means, doing something on your own. It means not following a crowd, it means doing something unique. It can be hard to go your own way, but that is what Robert Frost is talking about. Everybody should go the path is right for them, not the one that many other people have gone down. There are many examples of people taking the unexpected path, I have gone through a path many people have never seen before, so have
People around the world are constantly moving from place to place. Whether that place is work, a restaurant, or home, people require a means of transportation in order to arrive at a desired destination safely and efficiently. One of the most used means of transportation today are cars. Cars play an important role in the world’s economy by transporting goods and people. Automobiles have come a long way since Ford’s first Model T, and the auto industry plans to further enhance the technology and capabilities of the cars that drive on our roads. New technological advancements like rear-view camera, self parking, and auto braking have greatly improved the overall safety of cars today. However, one of the most talked about ideas are autonomous
The light stands at a bright red while you nervously twist your hands back and forth on the steering wheel. You feel your heart beating faster and you start to sweat, as you playfully look to the right at the car in the next lane. Suddenly, the light shines a glorious green, and you punch your gas pedal to the floor with your heavy foot, as your wheels spin from underneath you, ready to launch off like a rocket ship! Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Many teenagers have this same adventure every day, not knowing what the outcome could be if something went wrong. Speeding and street racing can be very dangerous to you and others around you. I’ve experienced many times with family and friends what speeding can cause. I’m hoping that you will read my stories and see how speeding can really be a deadly thing. I hope this essay will make you think twice before going over the speed limit. Speeding can cause pain for you and your loved ones.
When the term roadkill is used, there isn’t pretty imagery associated with it. Thoughts of mangled deer and flattened rabbits aren’t the kind of thing you want to think about on a regular, especially when it comes to food. This doesn’t mean people do not eat roadkill, but that category of people is small because the majority of the population can’t get past the meat's origins. In terms of ethics, roadkill is a perfectly fine source of meat. It was accidental food, not the intentional slaughtering of cows or pigs. Most of the smaller animals are definitely unsalvageable but the big game like deer or elk is what really matters when deciding if roadkill is a viable food source. Due to their size and how little damage the body takes upon impact
There is an acronym out there that many people enjoy, yet some do not know what it stands for. NA stands for National Association because teams get together to race across the country. SC stands for Stock Car because it’s not bicycles we’re talking about. AR stands for Auto Racing because that’s what it is, isn’t it? NASCAR has been around for years, and it attracts many people of different backgrounds and interests. It’s an organization that sanctions many different auto races. and it includes three main series. Predominantly, the Sprint Cup Series presides over the other two, which are the Xfinity Series and the Camping World Truck Series. NASCAR is unequivocally an electrifying sport because every factor that plays into it makes it very unpredictable.
