Have you ever been happy trying to fit in? Whenever you try to fit in, you're always trying to make yourself happy by fitting in but they're actually not being themselves so they usually feel uncomfortable and unhappy mostly all the time. When I see the video of social experiments of conformity and it only takes about 4 people to conform somebody to do the wrong thing. There’s a few people that do not fall for it; usually the people who do not fall for conformity they are non conformist. If we didn’t have nonconformist this world would be all the same nobody would create anything because nobody would think out the box. Sometimes I see people as a flock of birds that all go one way. I believe people should not care about being judged because …show more content…
mostly those people that stand out for their statement or anything they end up usually successful. Whenever the topic nonconformist comes into the conversation I always think about the people that do not care if they are different like one of them is Miley Cyrus. The reason for that is because now and days are everybody knows her, because she was a good girl and a singer now when she started to be herself everybody knows her. Mostly a lot of people would see her as disgusting, but her goal was to get known and famous. She did mostly all the channels on tv would have her; because she would be herself on the stage and that would bring to the attention of people. She is a lady that thinks for herself so she does not think that other people will think of her in a bad way. At the end of the day she wins because she made her which was to be known. More people that are non conformist are Steve Jobs, leopard man, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Steve Jobs would always get doubted and people would say that it would not work, but that would motivate more and he ended up making iPods, iphones, and i pads. The products that he made are one of the greatest inventions. The leopard man would not care about his appearance so he has his whole body tattooed and he walks around like a normal person because he is himself and does what he loves. My greatest example is Martin Luther King, Jr because he would stand up for his people and would not care that he was the only one arguing against like 40 men and Martin Luther King, Jr is known now as a legend. Unfortunately, the society that we live in is that many people are conformist and it's mostly appearance because we are drowning in pressure.
The people who are conformist usually look at non conformist as weird. I believe that the conformists are the weird people because they all want to be the same so they don't get judged. Well, enough talking about conformists the non conformists are the people to talk about. They usually do not care about what the other people say they just appreciate this world by just being themselves because they know that they are not going to be on this world forever. So when they past they did not leave anything behind so they lived in this world, not caring about what anybody said so they lived being happy and themselves.
Furthermore, what is there to live if you are not truly happy by trying to be the same as everybody else. Some people who are conformist are truly not happy. The non conformist live their lives by not leaving anything behind and being themselves by not doing the same as other people. Conformists are people who are judging everybody who are not the same as them. That is why there is hardly any people who are non conformist because of the pressure that is put on them if they do not do the same.
Ultimately, you should think what you should do. The more people that are non conformist are the people who are happy and successful. So when you fit in high school by following the cool kids the kids who are usually called weird are gonna
be known as the most successful I know it. Those are my thoughts of conformity vs individuality.
Conformity can be very crucial, infact a lot of people eventually start hurting themselves or doing drugs just because they don't feel themselves anymore. Why can't society change? why can't that one kid that always follows everyone in the back can turn into the kid that just hangs with the people they really wanna hang with?We need to embrace ourselves so we can stop all this conformity from consuming us.Tupac was a nonconformist, he always did what made him happy and always told the truth.
Another point I agree with is that it's a lot easier to just fit in and not lead the train and being yourself. I personally know from experience. Growing up I always tried to conform just to fit in with the people that surrounded me. It's not just me that i've seen conform to fit in, i've seen many of my friends conform to fit in with the crowd. All around me, everyday people are conforming and changing to fit in with the society.
Moving away from books, there is an even bigger amount of articles explaining conformity. One of these articles is “Students’ Work Ethic Affect by Peer Groups.” On page two of this article, one of the active participants in this story, Venda, states that students usually “sign up for the SAT prep course when their choice is private.” One would probably not doubt this at all due to the fact that many students in our school system have learned to “follow the herd.” Whatever other students are doing, many people will be influenced to do so as
...ther, and nearly kills an innocent woman. In a broader perspective, conformity can leave people walking aimlessly down the beaten path with no real direction except conformity, doomed to live yet another meaningless life in a society based on archaic principles.
Everybody wants to be accepted, yet society is not so forgiving. It bends you and changes you until you are like everyone else. Society depends on conformity and it forces it upon people. In Emerson's Self Reliance, he says "Society is a joint stock company, in which the members agree, for the better securing of his bread to each shareholder, to surrender the liberty and culture of the eater." People are willing to sacrifice their own hopes and freedoms just to get the bread to survive. Although the society that we are living in is different than the one the Emerson's essay, the idea of fitting in still exists today. Although society and our minds make us think a certain way, we should always trust our better judgment instead of just conforming to society.
If conformity means to “conform to a social role… brought about by a desire to ‘fit in’ or be liked,” then the characters of Never Let Me Go are a wonderful example (McLeod). In Hailsham, the school where the Ruth, Tommy, and Kathy grow up, the Guardians expect all of the students to be extremely creative;
At times it's good to conform with the rest of the group because it can give us benefits in life. In Jerry Spinelli's Stargirl he asks the reader to consider whether it is good or bad to conform. Leo is the main character in the story. Stargirl is a really important outsider who changes Leo’s perspective of how he lives. Leo forces Stargirl to conform to the group, but it doesn't turn out very well. She ends up being popular but deep inside she is feeling really sad. Leo learns a lot from Stargirl, but the main thing that he learns is that you can’t force people or their personality to change just to fit in.
Conformity is behavior following socially accepted standards, this story conveys this to an extreme. “THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else (195 Kennedy).“ Everyone in this dystopian future is average in every aspect. If not, the government gives the person a series of handicaps to hinder them. It is a law that everyone must be the same in aptitude. This shows that the government has an average standard for their people. Later it is revealed that they even in prison those that aren’t fully
Furthermore, some conformist doesn't want to live in a small city they want to be around the famous. Also, many conformists are just very picky on who they want to be around. We may not notice non-conformity and conformity because of the way we act. In addition, conformists are like followers but not exactly. Some conformist like to fit in but also want to be different.
Have heard of the word nonconformity? Maybe, that's okay but you've most likely have heard it you just don't think about it. Nonconformity means we things won't come together, we don't conform. However, that might be how we start to come together, when people chose to be against an idea they aren't the only ones. Some people will come together and others will part their way from interacting with another person. I believe nonconformity is a way of conforming.
Nonconformity means to be yourself to be able to do something different when others are doing something they think is right, to look at things differently than others do. Nonconformity is having custom ideas and looking at things differently than some may. Being nonconformist means you won't mold to society you will look at things the way you think is right. Or like Emerson would say go away from the crowd."Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of our own mind."-Emerson. "A minority is powerless while it conforms to the majority."-Henry David Thoreau. These are both quotes about nonconformity, Emerson’s comes straight from his “Self Reliance” essay.
"The average man is a conformist, accepting miseries and disasters with the stoicism of a cow standing in the rain." Colin Wilson was a prominent philosopher and his quote has the view that sometimes you just have to let life take its course and there is nothing else you can do about it. I would agree with his views and I have witnessed how others handle certain situations. The one thing I had witnessed the most was that people tend to not try and fix something that has already taken place, I feel as humans we tend to try and forget what happens and learn to live with the situation. The definition of a conformist is a person who conforms to accepted behavior or established practices. My point being that not only do we experience it, but also in movies when a tragedy occurs the characaters of that movie have to learn how to cope with life. I have also
Many people waste their lives striving to be someone they aren’t or to fit into a certain group of people. Everyone is unique and special in their own way and as Feys says “To be human is to be an individual human, with individual tastes, talents, values and dreams that are different from others.”(paragraph 6) Especially in High School students try more to blend into a certain group, I myself have suffered from the desire to fit in. I believe that there is always going to be someone better than me, (more athletic, or smart, pretty, creative… the list goes on) but I, as well as society, should learn to accept
A world in which everyone is the same, same clothes, hairstyles, shoes, jewelry, and lifestyles. Those are some of the ideals of a conformist to be what society wants and expects you to be. In a time and place that it is required to fit into society you have to be like society. Per contra Non-conformists believe the exact opposite, that you should be who you want to be and never become a follower. Non-conformists are people like me who don’t follow the “norm” and expectations.
The inability to conform in society can lead to unhappiness and the feeling of inequality
