Mike Wilson, who has been an editor at The Dallas Morning News since 2015, was the sole speaker at the press conference, where he spoke on how The Dallas Morning News is working to combat the public’s skepticism on news media and why it has reached crisis levels. After giving some history on The Dallas Morning News, Wilson said that his paper has a proud “history of being fair and accurate.” However, Wilson said that “the days of inherent truth are gone.” “This is where I see a crisis, not just for The Dallas Morning News, but for all conscientious …show more content…

He attributed some of the loss in trust due to changing media, fast news cycles and cable news. “Whether or not there is something to say about a news story, we have news channels where people are gathering and talking about it endlessly and creating a sense of paranoia and anxiety.” Wilson said. Wilson also took some responsible for the falling trust in the coverage of topics like the Iraq War that “mislead the American people about what actually happened.” He also talked about failing to report on social movements saying “the media has not done a good job looking at the bigger picture,” pointing to the 60s, when the media failed too adequately cover the rise of women entering the workforce. However, according to Wilson, “maybe the most important source of skepticism about media now is the rise of partisan media, exemplified by Fox News.“ “Now I want to be clear that Fox News is not the only partisan news outlet,” Wilson said, “but Fox is probably the best known and most powerful.” Wilson said that Fox News has spent the last 20 years promoting a conservative agenda and the idea that mainstream news outlets like The Dallas Morning News shouldn’t be
