15 year ago, a nine-year-old kid in Hawaii had a “What do you want to be when you want to grow up?” assignment. He wrote he wanted to be an NFL quarterback. His teacher took him to the side and said to pick a new dream. That there’s a small chance that he will get there. That kid is Marcus Mariota. Marcus has shown that teacher wrong through his high school, college, and pro career. Marcus Mariota was born on October 30, 1993, in Honolulu, Hawaii to Toa and Alana Mariota. He had two dreams, to play college football on the mainland and become an NFL quarterback. Marcus attended Saint Louis High School in Honolulu. It was a private school so his parents sacrificed a lot to pay for him to go there. Also to go to football camps. Marcus wanted to be able to repay them when he got older. His freshman through his junior year he rode the bench as a backup or third string. His senior year he finally got to shine. …show more content…

To get used to college football, he redshirted his first year. His freshman year he led the Ducks to a 12-1 record. He was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Marcus’s sophomore year he started all the games and ended the year with an 11-2 record. His junior year was his best. He came into it as a Heisman favorite. He proved it. Oregon made it to the College Football Playoff Championship Game. Even though they came up short in the game, Marcus had 4,500 passing yards and 42 passing touchdowns during the season. He won the Heisman Trophy, the Walter Camp, the Maxwell Award, the Davey O’Brien, and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. He was the first Hawaiian born player to win the Heisman. Everyone at home and every Poly was proud. Marcus started every game in his three years of playing at Oregon and had a 36-5 record. He broke nearly all of Oregon's significant passing records with a career 10,796 passings yards and 105 touchdown passes.
