15 year ago, a nine-year-old kid in Hawaii had a “What do you want to be when you want to grow up?” assignment. He wrote he wanted to be an NFL quarterback. His teacher took him to the side and said to pick a new dream. That there’s a small chance that he will get there. That kid is Marcus Mariota. Marcus has shown that teacher wrong through his high school, college, and pro career. Marcus Mariota was born on October 30, 1993, in Honolulu, Hawaii to Toa and Alana Mariota. He had two dreams, to play college football on the mainland and become an NFL quarterback. Marcus attended Saint Louis High School in Honolulu. It was a private school so his parents sacrificed a lot to pay for him to go there. Also to go to football camps. Marcus wanted to be able to repay them when he got older. His freshman through his junior year he rode the bench as a backup or third string. His senior year he finally got to shine. …show more content…

Marcus’s sophomore year he started all the games and ended the year with an 11-2 record. His junior year was his best. He came into it as a Heisman favorite. He proved it. Oregon made it to the College Football Playoff Championship Game. Even though they came up short in the game, Marcus had 4,500 passing yards and 42 passing touchdowns during the season. He won the Heisman Trophy, the Walter Camp, the Maxwell Award, the Davey O’Brien, and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. He was the first Hawaiian born player to win the Heisman. Everyone at home and every Poly was proud. Marcus started every game in his three years of playing at Oregon and had a 36-5 record. He broke nearly all of Oregon's significant passing records with a career 10,796 passings yards and 105 touchdown passes. Marcus decided with his family to forgo his senior year and declare for the 2015 NFL

Barry Sanders was born July 16th, 1968 in Wichita, Kansas. He grew up in a family being one of eleven other children. When Barry was a kid he was considered to be too short to play football well at the college level. In fact, his 1,417 yards rushing in his senior year of high school wasn't enough to impress college recruiters. One recruiter told Barry's coach, "We don't need another midget." Only two colleges offered Barry a football scholarship. Barry accepted a scholarship from Oklahoma State University and the rest is now history.

Walter Payton was born in July 25, 1954. Son of Peter and Alyne Payton, Walter Payton was born in Colombia, Missouri. Walter’s father wasn’t really into football as much as people thought, Peter Payton was a semi-pro baseball player. Eddie learned a lot about football from his dad, but when Walter was born, he knew he would have competition. At a very young age Walter and Eddie would have pickup games in the backyard. When Walter was 5 he started to play in a little league. Coaches were shocked to see Walter play football, almost every time he touched the football, touchdown. Not only his parents, but the players, and the coaches noticed that the harder Walter works he could go far.

Montana was born on June 11, 1956 in New Eagle, PA. From an early age he showed interest and talent in football as well as baseball and basketball. In fact, Montana was so good at basketball that as a senior he was offered a basketball scholarship to North Carolina State University. It wasn’t until his junior year of high school that Montana achieved the position of starting QB for the Ringgold High School Rams. Montana did not relinquish the position for the next two years, and after his senior season he was named to the Parade All-American team. NFL teams are practicing lightly so far this year, training camp is multiple weeks away, and the first preseason game isn't going to be played for months. The new defense has not been completely installed yet and neither has the new offense. We do not know whether the special teams unit will be as effective as it has been the past several seasons because Chip Kelly's practice schedule is no longer in place to provide extra reps and the overall depth chart isn't even being considered at this point because players are currently sporting shorts and t-shirts on the field.
“I'm a pretty good winner. I'm a terrible loser, and I rub it in pretty good when I win”-Tom Brady (brainyquote.com). Tom Brady is the New England Patriots starting quarterback, and without a doubt he is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. In fact without him the Patriots would have never even went to a Super Bowl. Now that the Patriots have the legendary Tom Brady on their team they went to six Super Bowls and even won four. However Tom Brady wasn't always as good as he is now he started from the bottom like everyone else.
When looking for an argumentative visual I wanted to do something over a topic that was one day going to relate to me. So I chose the topic of young male children playing tackle football. In this PBS Learning Media documentary, a group of doctors persuasively discuss the effects of allowing a male child under the age of fourteen to play tackle football and the head injuries it can cause as well as the later effective of their growth they can encounter if a hard blow to the head was the happen. The documentaries argument clearly stated that allowing your children to play tackle before the age of fourteen is dangerous and should be avoided for the child 's safety. The film also successfully utilized many rhetorical appeals that convinces parents to reconsider their idea of allowing their son to participate in tackle football. The first rhetorical appeal used in the film was pathos, it was a video clip of a child on the ground hurt because of a hard hit to the head. Another rhetorical appeal used was logos when they interviewed doctors from highly respected fields to state their factual

Before any football player can say they are for sure going to play in the NFL for a career, they might want to consider how likely that will happen. The statistics of a football player going to the NFL are extremely low. The chances of playing college football at the levels of division one (D1) or division two (D2) on scholarship are also slim. The D1 or D2 college levels of football produce the most NFL players. Most high school football players want to play in D1 or D2 football, but the reality is that barely any of them will. There are an estimated 1,093,234 senior high school football players in the United States (“Football”). The astonishing reality is that just 4.2% of those 1,093,234 seniors in high school will play college football at the D1 or D2 level (“Football”). If a football player does get their scholarship to play college football they should feel grateful that they are one of the roughly 45,916 to accomplish that (“Football”). The statistics are now even lower for a college football player that is trying to make it to the NFL. There are only 15,842 college football players eligible for the NFL Draft, which are juniors and seniors (“Football”). Just the tiny number of 1.6% is how many of those draft eligible players will play in the NFL. Many coll...
Are high school sports beneficial or not for students? I personally believe if a student is in a high school sport they’re forced to prioritize between school and their sport, and at a young age I believe the student would decide to use his time to improve in his sport instead of school. Which in the long run would affect his academics, unless they decide to stay up late and work on their homework to keep up with both school and their sport. But, even like that in time the lack of sleep would catch up to them, and cause them to do even worse in both academics, and sports. High school sports are like the lotto in my opinion, many play but only a few get rewarded for their work. Therefore, high school sports cause more negativity than positivity.
If a football player is interested in becoming a professional football player, it’s essential to be on a college football team. If a player wants to go to the pros, he should attend a college that puts a lot of emphasis on its football program. If the player shows promise on a college team, that’s one way to open the door to being successful. Players need to learn about the sport, in addition to knowing the rules, regulations, and policies. They should read about the history and about the players of the past (Field 11). It is also imperative that the athlete train to become a professional football player and start out early like youth football leagues (“How…Professional”).
