Almost Ten percent of the population is left-handed. Growing up being left handed has forced me to adapt to situations that were simple for a right handed person. In my early childhood, I was forced to use my right hand when I would use a computer mouse. When it was time to write in our notebooks I was always aggravated with the metal spiral rubbing against my hand in my notebook. Once I reached high school, the desk was another change I had to adapt to; the desks were made for right handed people. It allowed them to rest their elbow while writing, Left-handers do not have an elbow rest. Children learn by observational learning; this means they see someone they look up to do something and then they do it. When my parents taught me how to brush my teeth, they used their right hand to hold the brush. My right hand isn’t as precise as my left. Some parents unknowingly force their child to use their right hand because they do it themselves. Everyone has experienced some type of stress in their life. Whether it has been from work, school, or troubles at home, stress is stress. If anyone had played sports in high school, you know the challenge of balancing school and sports. Imagine that stress, then multiply it exponentially. Everyone knows that college is a much more rigorous version of high school. The only reason some athletes made it to college is due to scholarships for their performance on the field. If they don’t perform well on the field, that scholarship might get cut. This makes practicing the athletes main priority. However, college athletes have to concentrate on their grades so they don’t drop out of college. These athletes know they may not make it to the pro’s, so they know they have to have a back up plan. This back up plan is called a college degree. So college athletes have to concentrate both on sports and classes. Sounds kind of challenging. This is why I believe student athletes should be allowed to miss classes occasionally due to their sport. Athletes are under much more stress, are required to attend practices and classes, and complete their homework. This is simply impossible to do, at least for a human. I believe that this is an important topic because it affects all college athletes.
Most education centers focus on speaking, listening, writing, and logic making right brain learners struggle more excessively in the classroom. Right brain learners excel more in a classroom when the lesson involves images, colors, emotions, and/or the lesson is being taught through a story. Putting a child in curriculum that is friendly to the brain will and does make all the difference. However, most children can learn to accept and learn will in left brain curriculum with little to no struggle. Except, it is believed that children who learn slower or have a learning disability are more likely to be right brain learners. Knowing this, teachers can tweak teaching strategies to get all children learning to their best abilities (Right Brain vs. Left Brain). In “Letter to Ma”, Merle Woo writes mostly about her parents learned helplessness; however, Woo also touches on other learned behaviors such as, racism, sexism, and feminism. There are two types of known behaviors, innate and learned. Innate behaviors are reflexes that people are born with and learn behaviors are directly taught or learned from experience. When babies are born they have the innate behavior to close their hands when their palms are touched. People are not born with learned behaviors such as believing in the equality or inequality between genders or races. “Letter to Ma” does a remarkable job of explaining how people are taught to be racist, sexist, or feminist.

Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
I chose this topic because education is all around me. I am literally surrounded by illiteracy. From the moment I leave my door, to the moment I return, I am able to witness illiteracy in my society. Therefore, I could connect well to this particular topic in detail. So many children younger than me, of my age and also people elder to me do not have access to education. Even though 86.1% of the world is illiterate (CIA World Factbook), the other 14.9% have absolutely no access to education!
Mental Illness is one of the growing illness in United States. According to National Alliance of Mental Illness”1 in 5 adults experiences a mental health condition every year. 1 in 20 lives with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.” If the person has a five family member, one of them could be diagnosed with mental illness. If there is 40 students in class room at least two of them could be living with serious mental illness. Although mental illness is something that familiar to us, there is still misunderstood and stigma towards mental illness.
