Abortion was made legal in the Unites States is 1973 but it remains one of the most controversial subjects today. Nearly forty-five years later, abortion is still being debated over and the question still remains if it is morally permissible. We see it on the news daily, and we see it being debated upon in political campaigns. Abortion is usually supported by the Democratic party and found to be immoral and impermissible within the Republican party. The article I chose to critique is about an undocumented teen from Central America who has come to the United States illegally and wants to have an abortion. The illegal immigrant was being referred to as Jane Doe during the case. Jane Doe is represented by Brigitte Amiri, who is working on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union. Amiri states, “It is the perfect storm between abortion and immigration, and the Trump administration has shown absolute hostility to both of those issues” (Amiri, Brigitte). Jane Doe was already in custody for crossing the border illegally when she found out she was pregnant, Doe was already nine weeks into pregnancy (Fernandez, Manny). Doe’s lawyers accused federal officials of not letting her have an abortion. But, the federal appeals court of Washington agrees that she should have the right to have an abortion and sent the case to the lower court for them to decide. The lower court ordered that the Trump administration must let the young women have an abortion. Manny Fernandez says that in Central America, where she is from, abortion is illegal and found to be morally impermissible. This young woman has illegally entered the United States and I believe our government shouldn’t have the right to decide if she can have an abortion or not. She should be sent back to her home country and let them decide on her behalf. Jane Doe is not a citizen of the United States, and therefore we shouldn’t govern over her problems, her country
