The United States is a strong developed country, yet the health care system would show otherwise. One of the biggest issue here today, is that even though the United States is a developed country, the quality, cost, coverage, and choice of its health care are effecting the citizens. In the United States, it isn’t always easy to get access to health insurance. As a science major, having health insurance is necessary. Students in my major, Exercise Science, are required to go through health compliance in order to be eligible to complete an internship. This is a requirement for the major, yet many students may not have insurance that is going to cover the cost. Also, even if a student wanted to buy their own health insurance, the company could deny them. This is similar to Nikki White whose experience demonstrated the flaws within the United States health care system. Those who seek medical attention should not have to look around everywhere to find a provider that accepts their insurance. Looking at this from a student’s perspective and a future health professional perspective, I am scared. I could potentially be denied an internship for next semester if I didn’t have health insurance to cover me. This ties in with the cultural practices that are being addressed in my Psychology of Culture course this semester.
