In fact, gun ranges are debating child safety. After an incident in 2014 when a nine year old girl accidently killed her gun instructor with an Uzi machine gun. Airman Carrington believes that he would never allow his children to shoot any kind of automatic weapon (Carcamo). There are some parents that believe that a 9-year-old shooting and Uzi is a little much, and they would never let their children shoot ever again (Carcamo). Cindy Carcamo, a writer for the Los Angeles Times, asserts that it is best to insure that children never encounter a gun. Guns in homes are proving deadly for children. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) notes that almost 800 kids were killed in gun- related accidents at home from 1999 to 2010. Giving a number of how many deaths makes us realize that guns are not for children (Szabo). The American Academy of Pediatrics policy statement on guns states that, “children are safest in homes without firearms” (Szabo). Kids would most likely be safer if there were no guns at home (Szabo). Bill Brassard, spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), explains that making sure guns are put away and out-of-sight is big deal for preventing anything from happening. If anything, guns should be in a locked safe and only an adult should know how to open the safe, in case of emergencies

The majority of deaths by guns in the youth are homicides. About one-third of them are suicides. Seven percent are unintentional. People living in urban areas such as, older teens, males, African American youth, and Hispanic youth are more likely to be involved in gun homicides. People in rural areas like males and Caucasian youth are more likely to commit suicide. There were 2,711 infant, child, and teen firearm deaths. That’s seven deaths a day.
Left, right, Liberal, Conservative, Democratic, Republican. There are a lot of synonyms for the sides of our nation divided. Divided on many things: religion, political views, morals, etc.. For a nation that prides ourselves on extraordinary security and unity, it is quite ironic that so many issues can cause such distress and uproar within communities. One such issue is gun control. As a white male in a middle-lower class family that has never owned a gun, I may be somewhat biased. Objectively as I can, I am going to report the facts and more importantly, try to find the core issues at play.

In Western society citizens purchase guns for self preservation. Unfortunately, they are utilized in opposing ways, the majority of crimes are involved in gun shootings; this is an essential issue in America. Most agree that gun violence will have
The main thesis of this article was to explain that it is not always safe to have a gun around, show the pros and cons of having a firearm, and the author gave three steps on how to make it safer. One of the main points of the author was to explain the difference between a good guy having a gun and a bad guy having a gun. As he said in the article, there are more killings with the good guys that have guns than the bad guys (Wilson, 2013). The author also talked about some of the pros and cons of having firearms. One of the pros was that if someone broke into your house, you would have a way to protect yourself, but a con would be if your child got ahold of your firearm and ended up killing himself/herself, or someone
Violence related to guns is a prominent issue in America. Guns are a means to an end; meaning guns have played a strong role in suicides, murders, and injuries. In the past decade there has been an average of 400-500 thousand incidents of firearms per year (Gun Violence). The number of injured people from firearm incidents in the United States per year for the past decade is 400-600 thousand people (Gun Violence). These statistics are absolutely shocking to anyone. The amount of violence and crime that comes from guns is enormous. It is imperative that proper gun control is put into place by means of background checks and proper training. It can almost be certain that the number of incidents of accidental discharges from children and the number of victims affected by gun crimes in general can be highly reduced.

A study in 1986 “concluded that a gun in the home is 43 times more likely to be involved in the death of a household member than it is to slay an attacker” (Lott, 2000). So, a counter argument often used to bury this particular argument is that the Second Amendment is practiced as defense. However, in the majority of the cases, a firearm in case of an intruder or assault, it is only fired once and is rarely fatal. Most of the time, the firearm is used to scare assailants and not to kill. Particularly in the United States, states in the south have more accidental death casualties, with numbers going as high as a thousand casualties. In the period of 2005 to 2013, there was an approximate total of 3,800 victims, and more than half, were under the age of 25. It is safe to conclude that accidental injuries are common where guns are kept as safe control (Dueling Over Gun Control, 1998). So more gun-control laws should be made to prevent the deaths of children and young adults. A negligent person with a firearm is a danger to even those he or she
Gun violence in America is a public health crisis, which needs to be recognized and changed by legislatures, and the voting American. As conscious Americans, we need to vote for changes to gun laws that would improve background checks nation-wide, make firearm registration mandatory, restrict the sale of assault weapons and weapon modifications that give the shooter military-grade fire power, and invest in gun-safe technology and safe firearms storage designs. This type of technology will help prevent criminally oriented people from accessing guns, and will help prevent the accidental deaths of many children by guns. This essay will explain the reforms needed to help ensure Americans can still exercise their 2nd amendment right of owning firearms, and preventing the unnecessary deaths of many Americans at the same time.
The debate over gun control in America has constantly brought up over the years due to gunmen killing large amounts of civilizations in shootings. From Columbine to Sandy Hook or the shootings of the two reporters in West Virginia, these public shootings are occurring everywhere. Lawmakers and civilians alike are pushing for increased gun control in hopes of preventing the same tragedies. Anybody that has been affected by the shootings have been pushing Congress and state governments to force new sanctions on government. With the past three years, Congress has shot down all the laws despite the large amounts of public support. Adding more gun control isn’t going to stop the mass shootings from happening.
Gun control is an awfully big issue in the United States today. Many people in America don’t agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns and freedom away from law-abiding citizens. Many citizens have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns aren’t very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection when used correctly. The second amendment states “the right to bear arms”; does this grant everyone the right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens. Gun control laws just make it harder for the good guy average Joe to own a gun. Gun control laws are not a good idea, and are taking part in the loss of our freedom that was given to us.
Every thirty minutes there is a youth death involving guns. In eighty percent of school-related deaths, the weapons used were obtained easily from someone the perpetrator knew (Reza et al., 2003). Though only about one percent of all of these deaths happen at school (Robers, Zhang, & Truman, 2012), this is still an astoundingly high number, which needs to be drastically decreased. To stop gun violence by youth in schools, the government, parents and adults in general must focus on: legality, availability, and knowledge of guns, watching for signs of severe bullying and harassment which lead to violence, and decreasing violence in media, making the value of a human life greater.
The children and adolescents are expose to violence and guns in television, video games, and movies is at the root of the recent increase in the use of guns in schools for many years (Waugaman, 2016).
