Throughout my childhood, I have heard the term global warming over and over again, but what does it actually mean? Global warming refers to the increase of the Earth's atmosphere, which stems from the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect, besides humans, is the main reason that our planet continues to heat up. Sunlight gets trapped within our atmosphere, and it treats our planet as if it were a greenhouse. The more sunlight that gets trapped within our atmosphere, the warmer Earth gets. If the atmosphere ceased to exist, the planet would be a lot cooler than it is; however, if the atmosphere did not exist, neither would we! I have always known the threat of global warming to be something that sounded life threatening and scary, but is it really?
When searching about global warming and its effects on Earth, there seemed to be so many different opinions on the matter. I saw that some people were saying that it will be the end to our planet as we know it, while other people believe it is all just one big hoax and we are spending way too much time worrying ourselves.
There seem to...
...t. The survey showed that 23% of Americans do not believe global warming is happening. This number has risen by 7% since the spring of 2013 (Prigg 2013). If people don’t come to realize this sooner, the earth could be destroyed. First off, global warming is when the atmosphere traps in gases like carbon dioxide which warms the earth. Global warming is happening all around. Ice caps in Greenland and Antarctica are decreasing in mass and the global sea level has rise by 17 cm in the last century (NASA 2013). If people do not see that it is actually happening, the place that has been called home for millions of years will be destroyed. Global warming is not a situation to be ignorant with. In some situations, ignorance is the better choice; however, there are some situations where being ignorant at the wrong time leads to destruction. It all depends on the situation.
Global warming is a scientific, political, and controversial topic. Some believe it is catastrophic, a slow moving killer hiding in the shadows. Others do not even think twice about it as they race by in a Hummer. Global warming is the gradual increase of temperature throughout different climates. It is caused by the greenhouse gas effect in which greenhouse gases, like methane and carbon dioxide, reflect sunlight back and forth. This reflected ultraviolet light bounces between the earth and the ozone layer and becomes trapped, resulting in a gradual rise of temperature. Over time, the slow rise of temperature causes new climates throughout the globe. The article “What Megablazes Tell Us About the Fiery Future of Climate Change” by Tim Dickinson
Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be permanently changing the Earth's climate. While it changes the Earth’s climate it takes away different species that we depend on and some which other species depend on and also effect (in a bad way) the environment in which we live and can cause permanent damages to humans, animals, plant which will change the whole chain of ecosystem.
Even though this view is correct in saying that there will be some negative effects of global warming (such as increased opportunities for natural disasters), this view lacks the idea that other variables will be affected at the same time (these other variables include increases in technology and increases in understanding of how to keep the world more stable). When these other factors are considered, we can see that global warming will actually produce positive effects for humanity and the Earth and all though global warming has some questionable side effects, there will be some positive aspects that will result in the end. These aspects of global warming will create conditions that will lead to longer growing seasons, an increase in the number of “warm” days for people to enjoy, as well as an increase in worldwide economic
What is Global Warming? Why is it important, or not important? Well, global warming is the gradual increase in the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere generally attributed by the increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants. Global Warming is real and is a current problem that we live with every day. Part of the cause of global warming is Study shows that the Earth’s temperature around the world has increased by more than 1 degree Fahrenheit since the late 1800s. In the Arctic about twice of the temperature around the world has also risen. This issue affects our daily temperature. Global warming has become a subject of political controversy. This debate has been subject to whether humans are at fault or if it is just a course of nature. Although many debates go on, questions of how to respond or help slow down the process of global warming are much more important focus. The main cause of global warming is the human contribution of the “greenhouse effect”. The Greenhouse effect is a cycle in which the temperature on Earth raises, during this, certain gases in the atmosphere trap energy. Global warming is a serious subject, very real subject that is being addressed and can be slowed down.
Global warming is a phenomenon that is on going constantly in our world today. This phrase basically refers to the increase in the Earth’s temperature along with change in climate over a small period of time due to human influences and activities.
Global warming is the name given to the increase in the earth’s surface temperature. It is caused by the collection of greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and methane, from the atmosphere. Climate change caused by global warming is an issue that demands immediate awareness. Measures are being taken to reduce green house gases by recycling, driving hybrid cars, or using less plastic. Even though their have been changes in the past few years, there has been little change.
The subject of global warming is as popular as the president. These both topics have always been hot subjects in everyday life. Global warming is the biggest storm headed in our way. It is also the most important issue of our times. Those ads or public service announcement on TV about global warming might not be the most attractive but the cause behind it is very important. Global warming is one of the major threats our planet is facing. Most scientists prove the fact that global warming is mainly caused by human activities rather than natural cycles. To simplify it, most mechanisms that we use are affecting earth. These mechanisms are created by humans. Therefore, humans are affecting earth.
In reality, global warming is a very big deal and it is increasingly becoming a bigger problem the longer it is left unattended to. Since most of global warming is extremely likely to be the result of human activity, it is up to said humans to take care of the problem and keep it from increasing at the high rate that it is. Those who claim that there is no evidence of global warming are blatantly ignorant because “the number of record high temperature events in the United States has been increasing, while the number of record low temperature events has been decreasing, since 1950” and it is hard not to acknowledge something that has been happening for a little over half a century (National Aeronautics and Space Administration). An increase in temperature is more detrimental than one might initially think because when they think of an increase in how hot it will be that summer it simply means more time at the beach, but in reality it so much more than that. In a documentary on an evangelical church’s camp program they focus on a select group of individual children and one child in particular is homeschooled and taught material from a creationist textbook.
Is global warming a hoax? Anyone who listens to the news for sure very often comes across a news anchor stating how the Earth’s climate is changing. Global warming is a term that creates fear among many. But with all the open and uncensored media out there, how do we know that this is not a lie or cover-up? So what does global warming actually mean, and is it really true?
The truth is that the Earth is not experiencing rapid enough changes for all of that to be necessary (Salmon 25). Salmon also compared the global warming threat to a weekly weather prediction. He says that just like a weatherman is often wrong about the weather of the week, the predictions about Earth’s future weather are a little sketchy. If weather cannot always be predicted a few days in advance, then there is no way the claims of Earth’s weather over several years can be determined true (Salmon 24).
In recent years, climate change has been a controversial topic. Many people, including country leaders argue that the change is real and irreversible, while others claim it is a tactic to envoke fear among people. Climate change is defined as, “a change in the typical or average weather of a region or city” (nasa). Their is remarkable evidence for both sides of the debate which raises the arguable question, is climate change real? In this essay, I will explain both arguments of the topic about the controversy that surrounds climate change. For argumentative paper you must also develop your own position and defend your point of view on this topic. In your intro please provide a clear thesis statement.
The documentary films “An inconvenient truth” by Davis Guggenheim and “The great global warming swindle” by Martin Durkin state contradicting opinions on this topic. In the documentary “An inconvenient truth” Al Gore, the ex-vice president of the USA discusses the present and future effects of global warming and the consequences that we will incur if the amount of the greenhouse gases generated is not reduced in the future. The documentary “The great global warming swindle” asserts that the concept of global warming is a big lie and it is one of the biggest scam of the human history. They suggest that the scientific opinion on climate change is influenced by political factors.
As Robert Frost once said, “ Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire.” This excerpt can relate to the idea of global warming. Global warming can be defined as an increase in the earth's average atmospheric temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate and that may result from the greenhouse effect. During the past 10,000 years the earth has been in an ever-growing cycle that has significantly changed the climate. These changes are becoming more prevalent in our world today in the past 150 years. Scientists have been analyzing the causes and effects of the greenhouse effect and many other issues that global warming has presented. As John Houghton states in his book, Global Warming the Complete Briefing, on page 2 “ The 1980s and 1990s were unusually warm. Globally speaking, the decades have been the warmest since accurate records began somewhat over a hundred years ago and these unusually warm years are continuing into the twenty-first century.” There are countless records that show that our world as a whole is getting warmer, and the facts cannot be disputed. Everyone in the world today is experiencing the effects of global warming. These effects might be small now, but if we don’t protect our planet now then the consequences will greatly be increased.
Global Warming One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”).
