Gladiators
Heed the words of John Lennon. Imagine. Imagine sitting in the Coliseum, surrounded by enthusiastic Romans cheering so loud, you can't even hear yourself think. You are one with the audience, watching Gladiators fight each other to the death. Imagine yourself biting your nails to stumps and gasping with the crowd when the swords clash and sparks fly. Imagine, and drink in the electric atmosphere of the Coliseum.

The discussions that rage on in my dormitory are no less fierce than the Gladiator fights, and the surrounding crowd cheers with a fervor that matches that of the Romans'. I am a gladiator, standing in the center of the arena (dormitory, whatever!) with my chest puffed out facing my opponent. The difference between us and the gladiators of the old is that our weapons are words, not steel. Instead of the sword, shield and the hidden dagger in my breeches, I am armed with logic, facts and a demeaning barb about my opponent. …show more content…

My opponent is not known for tarrying so he charges with a fiery statement about why his information is correct. I quickly block his attack with facts and counter with an amalgam of logic and sarcasm. The counter is effective, and my opponent (metaphorically) falls on the floor; my sword is pointing at his neck. In a final desperate attempt, he flings a gibe towards me. The crowd gasps; This is insane! I maintain my calm demeanor (with difficulty) and chop his head off with a quote from a research journal. The (over-dramatized) bout is over, and I run off with the victory and my honor
