“I’m not great at the advice. Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?” I answer in response to my friend’s question of opinion. They stare at me, knowing I had let my inner Chandler Bing out and he would soon be gone. Friends is my favorite television show for many reasons, the entertaining banter is solely one of them. As a television show, Friends is the standard every sitcom strives to meet. The characters of this show not only work well together but stand alone as inspirational and quirky characters. While Ross and Rachel’s relationship may have been flawed and unbecoming, Chandler and Monica showed the love it takes to make a marriage. Each friendship was unique and satisfying in its own right and brought the viewer happiness. Admittedly
Jersey Shore is American reality TV show that follow the lives of eight random roommates spending their summer at the Jersey Shore. All eight members of the cast consist of young Italian “Guido’s” who drink alcohol uncontrollably, party, have sex, and fight. The show began in 2009 and since its release it has become one of the most popular TV shows, viewed by a wide variety of people. Jersey Shore is essentially a psychological experiment with the hope that bringing eight strangers together would make for an entertainment. The reason Jersey Shore became such a hit is because it is infused with romance, drama and opportunity to live through a group of people we have nothing in common with.
How does being sentenced to prison affect someone later in his or her life? Many people pose the question, but they have yet to form an immutable response. Oscar Wilde once said, “one of the many lessons that one learns in prison is, that things are what they are and will be what they will be”, this quotation engenders the philosophy of prison, which consists of one being held responsible for his or her wrongdoings. The book Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman explores how a once drug money launderer goes to jail for a crime which she committed almost a decade earlier. At the time she committed the crime, she considered herself lost and naive in regards to her life. Throughout the book, the audience witnesses Kerman’s struggles and how she ultimately overcomes them in order to better herself for the future. After examining the book, one can see that Kerman uses many rhetorical elements in her writing such as ethos, the rhetorical triangle, narration, and myriad others to make her memoir a timeless piece of non-fiction.
As foolish as that comes across as, Gabler asserts that the viewers make as if the characters are their friends in in order to feel good about themselves and not overthink about their alienation (357). This is the ultimate relationship; the characters are always close by; there is no turmoil; and they are very amusing. Although there is no interaction, the viewer still is under the impression that the characters are their friends. This relationship is really comparable to social media because people may never truly chat with their “friends” but they are able to “interact” through a screen. A friend from a television show may appear to be like the best relationship, but the ones that occur between the onscreen characters is indeed better.
I chose to analyze the sitcom That 70’s Show, a show that follows the lives of a group of teenage friends: Jackie, Donna, Hyde, Kelso, Eric, and Fez. The show addresses several social issues of the 1970s, including: sexism, sexual attitudes, drug use, politics, and the recession. I selected certain episodes from Season One based on their titles and descriptions; ones I thought may deal with sexism more in-depth than other episodes.
In America, every individual has the right to a fair trial, but how fair is the trial? When an individual is on trial, his or her life is on the line, which is decided by twelve strangers. However, who is to say that these individuals take their role seriously and are going to think critically about the case? Unfortunately, there is no way to monitor the true intentions of these individuals and what they feel or believe. In the movie, Twelve Angry Men, out of the twelve jurors’ only one was willing to make a stance against the others, even though the evidence seemed plausible against the defendant. Nevertheless, the justice system is crucial; however, it is needs be reformed.
I have listened to country music since I was a little, as did my husband. For him, it's a reminder of a simpler time, helping his father farm, plowing fields into the night. For me, it's a reminiscence of sunning myself in my backyard over summer vacation. The twangy sounds of the guitars and the fiddles always seemed to make me feel at home. For me, country music is a way of life, therefore the reasons I will use in an attempt to persuade you that country music is better than other music include its deep history in America, the quality and content of the music and its relatability.
In order to complete an analysis of a television show through six basic theoretical approaches, I chose to use the pilot episode of Gossip Girl due to its strong representation of class differences. In this episode, the interesting characters of the Upper East Side are introduced and viewers begin to get a sense of the lifestyles that they live. From the elite, to the middle class, issues and attitudes are established. All of the main characters attend an established private high school and seem to backstab each other as a form of entertainment. The main issues of this first episode are Serena sleeping with her best friend’s boyfriend, Lower class Dan’s infatuation with the upper class Serena, and Chuck being an overall bad person and predator
Friends ran for ten seasons in which it provided lots of laughter and tears through Chandler and Joey’s similarities and differences. In the show, Joey and Chandler become roommates after Chandler’s old roommate leaves and gets married. Soon after Joey moves in with Chandler, they establish a strong friendship by bonding over Baywatch and drinking coffee at Central Perk. Chandler and Joey display a variety of similarities and differences through their personalities, relationships, and jobs. Chandler and Joey display a variety of similarities and differences through their personalities.
While Rachel was not the favorite of the characters of the show, she was the most prominent, and still when people say Friends the television show everyone’s mind jumps to Jennifer
In recent discussion of hip hop culture, a controversial issue has been whether if hip hop makes people believe that money is everything you need to get respect and power. Some argue that you need to build respect and by building respect you become powerful and that will lead you to money. On the other hand, however, others argue that hip hop life helped them a lot by writing the lyrics and saying the things that they can’t do or say. One of this view’s main proponents, “money brings power, ” according to this view, people who have more money will get more power and then they usually use this power to do the most disturbing activities, such as crime. In sum, then, the issue is whether having too much power is good or it’s just a life destroyer.
Homeless, defined by Webster’s Dictionary as having no home or permanent place of residence so therefore typically living on the streets, is a very prevalent situation. According to National Housing Authority 4.2 million people in the United States are homeless each year. 2.3 million of those people are children under the age of eighteen. My parents’ drug addiction, unsafe living conditions, and arrest led to my homeless situation. Many extreme, unhealthy, lonely, occurrences can happen once in a homeless position.
What is social class? It is a term used to describe a large group of people who share similar social or economic positions in society based on wealth, income, job status, education, skills or power in the political sphere. Class is not just about what you own or earn but also who you know. Class affects not only how we feel about ourselves, but how others judge and consequently treat us. Those at the top of the class structure, the elite, have more power than those in the middle and even more power than those at the bottom who are of lower class. Education is a highly valued commodity in our world. In his commentary on society Freud, claimed, “ No feature, however, seems better to characterize civilization than its esteem and encouragement

The Sole Survivor Just admit it, we have all wanted to be on a reality show one time or another, standing on a 6 inch post with Jeff Probst counting down time, making duck calls at Duck Commander, or getting drunk, laid, and high in New Jersey. We, in our own guilty pleasures, have fantasized about appearing on a TV show such as Survivor, Duck Dynasty, or Jersey Shore. What most people don’t realize is we are living in the only true, honest, unscripted reality show; the real world. Both being categorized as reality, we assume that similarities between life and the CBS show Survivor should be plentiful, and they are, but differences can be found in the living situations, the way we deal with challenges, how we deal with different types of personalities, and the way we live in exile. Despite these the similarities the differences would prevent me from ever giving up my day to day life to live as a castaway on survivor.
