Free Education
Most people will agree with me that when it comes to the potential for improving our individual and collective lives, for forming better persons and better communities, for contributing to social and economic development there is no other way but through education. It is said that education is the key to success. Many people in Belize believe that we should have free education, however free education shouldn’t be offered in Belize because there will definitely have to be an increase in taxes and less parental involvement will be there and lastly too much government involvement. Free education is a great idea but Belize is not ready for it yet.
In terms of free education, the majority of states have a clause in their constitution establishing a free system of public schools; however, the interpretation of "free" beyond tuition varies across states. Some states have extended the meaning of "free public education" to …show more content…

This could produce an education system even more divisive than the present one (Leeder, Adam, Mabbett, Deborah, 2011). Everyone has their own ideas of what the education sector should provide and there lies the problem of whose idea of quality education will they use to build on for free education in Belize.
Yet these changes – from fee to free – have not always had a positive impact. Experience suggests that while initially the abolition of user fees leads to large increases in school enrolments and related falls in quality, user fees have often subsequently re-emerged, leading to high drop-out rates (CHER, 2002; Somerset, 2009). Like stated by Cher the quality does fall due to the change and also the rise in enrolment. It will be hard for any government to deal with this as well as the quality assurance that will be needed for the change to free
