Electric car companies are putting together zero emission energy sources in order to achieve their goal. In an article called Environment America: New Report: Electric Cars are Putting the Brakes on Pollution, it states that, “The report, "Driving Cleaner: More Electric Vehicles Mean Less Pollution," shows that electric vehicles could prevent more than 18 million metric tons of climate-changing carbon pollution annually in in [sic] the U.S. by 2025,” (“Environment America”). That huge of a change is astounding and would be beneficial to the environment in many different ways. It could cut back on the effects of global warming, make the air more breathable for people, and the usefulness of oil would decline which would overall be an outstanding step for everyone …show more content…
A recent study shows that electric vehicles are emitting around 8,000 pounds of carbon dioxide. A normal gas-powered car is emitting roughly 12,500 pounds of carbon dioxide. It does change depending on how the car is driven and how much, but there is a big gap between electric vehicles and gas-powered vehicles. There was a study in 2007 conducted by the National Resources Defense Council and the Electric Power Research Institute and they took some scenarios to see the impact electric cars would have up until 2050. They stated that, “the study found that in each scenario greenhouse gas emissions were "reduced significantly" -- even if the electric sector remained carbon intensive and PHEVs only accounted for 20% of the market in 2050,” (Jocelyn Fong and Shauna Theel). For every scenario the greenhouse gas emissions were reduced and that would mean there would be substantially less air pollution and it could resolve a lot of problems for everyone. Increasing environmental awareness, coupled with a responsible American government and improved technology, have all contributed to the comeback of low-and zero-emissions vehicles in the US. It remains to be seen whether the automakers and oil companies will once again work to halt this progress, or embrace it as the technology of a more responsible future.

DOE projects that the same number of fuel cell cars would cut oil imports by 800,000 barrels a day which is about 13 percent of total imports.

The substantial increase in the demand for EV’s came just in time as we are slowly but surely running out of oil. Some estimate that by the year 2040, 35 percent of all vehicles will be electric (Sullins, 2017). An article from the U.S. Department of Energy stated that “Electric vehicles hold a lot of potential for helping the U.S. create a more sustainable future. If the U.S. transitioned all the light-duty vehicles to hybrids or plug-in electric vehicles, we could reduce our dependence on foreign oil by 30-60 percent, while lowering the carbon pollution from the transportation sector by as much as 20 percent (energy.gov, 2014). It’s obvious that gas-powered vehicles have harmed our planet with their emissions. Although EV’s cannot reverse that damage that has been done, they can eliminate, or at least slow down, the inevitable demise that our planet is headed towards. Along with the beneficial environmental factors that correspond with electric cars, there are also beneficial financial factors. The average American spends about $2,000 on gas annually. In the future, charging stations will charge roughly $12.00 for a full charge, which is about 300 miles. This means that the average American will save about $1,400 per year on these specific car
Most people do not know but electric vehicles are out there for people to use. They have not yet replaced the internal-combustion engine as the vehicle of choice for most but electric power does have its place in the world. Electric Vehicles are focused into two basic categories: niche markets and environmentally conscious households. These are both small parts of the economy but it is still important to note that they have been successful in some areas. Electric cars will turn that statistic into zero dollars a year for certain people that have made the switch. According to Mary Kathryn Campbell, “The average cost of electricity in the US is 12 cents per kWh. Therefore, the average person driving an average EV 15,000 miles per year pay about $540.00 per year to charge it.” (Plug in America, Campbell). Electric cars will save the average person around one thousand four hundred and sixty dollars a year. Although switching to an electric car is very good for your pocket, you will still have to spend a lot of money on the maintenance and electricity the car needs. Drivers will have to buy things like home charging stations, which range from five thousand to one thousand dollars. It is also a challenge to calculate how much money is spent on electricity a year. As Brad Berman, of PlugInCars.com states, the actual cost for a kWh varies widely across the U.S., and can swing wildly even within a location based on utility rate plans, season, tiers, time-of-use programs and home solar. Forecasting actual EV fuels costs is a tough challenge.” (Plugin Cars, Berman). Switching to electric cars will save you a lot of money on gas, but you will also have to worry about other things like maintenance and charging
Purchasing a car is one of the hugest or biggest accomplishments that a person can achieve on their own. However, what happens when that purchase turns out to also be the worst decision that was ever made? The purchase was a success and a goal was achieved, but the moment the key is turned and the engine is started the contribution to environmental harm begins. As the car is driven, the gasoline fumes that are released from the car contribute to the other many factors and pollutants that damage the environment. Not only is the purchase now a contributor to the depletion of clean air, but it could also play a part in the depletion of someone’s health. For example, asthma or bronchitis could develop in an adult or child as a direct result of breathing in noxious automotive fumes. Depending on where one lives, there could be strict regulations on air pollution. One must be accountable for any and all contributions made to the demise of what was once a healthy Earth. One must be accountable for his or her own carbon footprint. Some individuals have taken steps to reduce their carbon footprints and cause less harm to the environment by purchasing electric cars.
As more and more cars are produced each day, the more possible CO2 emissions can be released on the daily basis. It is mostly the big V8’s and any engine bigger than that are the ones that release the most CO2 emissions considering all the gas they use up. Although there are some bigger engines going all the way up to a W16, a V8 is more common in a modern sports car. However, with the horsepower input and the required gas amount, CO2 emissions are high on the chart. Even worse is the gas required to run the engine. Most V8’s, and other engines bigger than that, require premium gas to run smoothly that increase spendings on the weekly basis and add up into the thousands years after. Which is another problem for the consumer. It is not to stop producing cars, but to start producing cars that less contaminate the environment.

There were few if any electric cars available as timed moved on. Everyone believed that gas powered vehicles were more convenient than the electric powered ones. I believe that gas powered vehicles are better because gas powered cars have more function ability. The range that electric vehicles have is poor compared to gas vehicles. Electric vehicles don't function very well when the weather is cold. You'll need to charge your car pretty much every night. You are only going to be able to go 80 mph. If you go up a big hill your range goes down. electric vehicles (rather ev's) do pollute but they don't pollute the same way that gas cars pollute.
Environmentally Friendly Electric vehicles are today’s zero-emission vehicles. They have no tailpipes and emit no pollutants. Instead of gasoline from oil refineries, electric vehicles get their “fuel” from electric power stations. Although power plants using fossil fuels do have emissions, power plant emissions generated for electric vehicle use are typically much lower than emissions from the comparable use of gasoline-powered cars. For power plants using renewable energy sources like wind, solar and hydropower, no air pollution is created.
Electric cars help lower emissions because they have completely clean motors. As time progresses, emission standards rise and will become harder to meet for automakers. Electric motors will always have zero emissions and auto makers won't have to spend extra money to make their engines cleaner and more fuel efficient. Originally, when the internal combustion engine was invented, pollution wasn't a problem. After hundreds of years and the many combustion engines created, all the exhaust has built up. Today, pollution is one of the largest problems in our environment. Every year the average miles driven rises for everyone. When this rises, the pollution rises as well. Electric cars are becoming increasingly more necessary, and have more advantages than disadvantages. Electric cars help to decrease the noise, pollution as they are much quieter. They do not emit any (or much less) carbon emission than petrol cars. Electric vehicles are the greenest mode of transport in the personal transportation industry. For each litre of fuel used in an engine produces more than 2.5kg of CO2. CO2 will be produced by an electric car but still a very little amount. It is also possible to use renewable power or a green energy supplier in the electric car. Thus it would lead to less polluted and safe working environment for all of us. However, safety is a big concern with using vehicles. The fluids in the batteries actually take impact better than a fully made gas car because it is not that flammable. Petrol cars and diesel cars are more flammable than electric cars so they are greater of taking impact in the event of an accident. I think that this is a very good reason because fewer people would get injured or hurt. This would save money because electricity is cheaper than gas and electric cars are easy to operate. Also is very ECO –friendly which mean that it is cheaper to run and have to pay very little road tax. In a pure electric vehicle there’s nothing combustible and have far fewer moving parts than you would find in a petrol or diesel car.
