INTRODUCTION
In this essay I will be discussing Chemotherapy; the problems it causes, what it does to your body, how it affects the cancer cells, it’s progression and use over the decades as well as why it’s used as a treatment for Cancer. Chemotherapy was first introduced in World War ll however it wasn’t intended to cure or treat Cancer.
During the war it was discovered that the Naval Personnel were exposed to nitrogen mustard gas, which later became apparent to the medical profession that it was significantly decreasing the amount of white blood cells in their body. This then influenced the researchers to identify whether or not mustard agents could be used to stop the quick growth of dangerous cells, such as cancer cells.
In my opinion, chemotherapy is a pioneering medicine & has saved many lives. However, it is not all plain sailing & not 100% successful with every case. Chemotherapy is known to cause terrible symptoms throughout the treatment stages, causing an immeasurable amount of pain, therefore having to go through this treatment only for it to fail is heartbreaking for all those involved. However, an alternative treatment has yet to

Chemo doesn’t always cure someone’s cancer it comes down to how long you have to had it, what type you have & how strong your body is. Chemotherapy also comes with its many disadvantages, which you’ll have to consider when making a decision about whether or not to proceed with this treatment, as it puts you through a lot of pain and side effects, for example nausea, headaches, fatigue, immune problems and many more and that’s just during the chemo. It can also cause you long term problems in the future such as heart problems, kidney damage, damage to the lungs, nerves and productive organs. To add the number of disadvantages it also comes with a very expensive
Chemotherapy is the treatment of a tumor with chemical agents to reduce mass or eradicate a tumor completely. There are certain mechanisms by which chemotherapy inhibits cancer. The first mechanism is cell death by cytotoxicity. Some chemical agents in certain amounts are toxic to cells. The cells die due to the toxic...
Because of advancements in technology and funding survival rates have increased in each patient and quality of life due to better chemotherapy and radio therapy drugs are helping millions of survivors round the world to lead a generally normal life without the risk of the cancer returning.
It's not just surgery that can hurt you chemotherapy kills healthy cells along with cancer cells and it also can infect healthy cells. Chemotherapy has killed more than it has helped! Many doctors have admitted to giving chemotherapy even though they didn't need it . even simple medicines or pills have side effects that completely out bad the good and some are only bad and cause more conditions and ninety-eight percent of regular cancer drugs fail really bad as well as almost assured to make cancer patients sicker and make them spend money on those
In my opinion, chemotherapy will still be used in the future for cancerous diseases. I believe researchers will come to find that other severe diseases, besides bone marrow disease, can also use chemotherapy for treatment. I feel that our society today is known for being strong and not giving up hope, especially when an aggressive diseases attacks. Because of this, more patients will choose to endure chemotherapy treatments in hope for success at the end of the journey.
This statement is very true. When someone is diagnosed with cancer it starts a journey down a road that no one wants to travel on. In recent years, there have been countless trials and tests to find a cure for this terrible disease but none have been entirely successful. There are treatments on the market that can help and slow down the process, but they have various side effects that aren’t quite appealing. The best treatments in todays world include; Rituxan, Avastin, Revlimid, and Gleevec. They all have a different tasks and developments that take affects in the body but each remarkable in its own way.
Chemotherapy is the use of chemicals to cure cancer. Chemotherapy is also known as “chemo”. The term for chemo came from the German bacteriologist Paul Ehrlich around the year 1900. He came up with the term when he was examining aniline dyes and arsenicals as possible treatments for diseases such as syphilis. He envisioned “magic bullets” that would be able to target invading organisms but still leave the host unscathed. This goal has been providing therapeutic benefits without many side effects in all areas of drug development. There has been a lot of success with compounds that modulate normal biochemistry within the body.
The book begins with a narrative of cancer relating back to its history. Cancer in the book is discussed as a confusing, complex disease that was hard to decode by doctors for over a century. Mukherjee gives rich details about the way people assessed breast cancer in the nineteenth century discussing how radiation and chemotherapy were once used before modern times. Further, into the book, Mukherjee shares with personal experience working in the field of
...2 new cells. Cancer cells are dividing more often than normal cells. That makes them more likely to be killed by the chemotherapy. Treatments are working to cure cancer. You are twice as likely to survive cancer today compared to 40 years ago.
A pregnant women diagnosed with cancer is a very rare case in medicine. Yet, this case still prevents itself in the field of medicine. Approximately, 1 in 1000 pregnant women are affected by cancer (“Cancer During Pregnancy”). Conflicts that pin maternal health versus fetal health have come to an interesting point in our society. The pregnant woman legally has the right to accept treatment that will harm the unborn child. Yet, it becomes a moral issue whether she owes it to her unborn child to refuse treatment in order to avoid fetal harm and deliver a healthy child. For the sake of argument, this paper will predominantly deal with pregnant cancer patients that if they refused chemotherapy may die, but if they received chemotherapy in the hopes of curing or slowing the cancer, their unborn child would be born healthy. This document will argue that the woman has the right to accept and should accept chemotherapy
...nately there are no cures as of now, only treatments to help a cancer patient out. Coming from a former smoker, I am glad I quit smoking just because of the effects cancer has on the body and how it can also affect a person mentally. It is unbelievable how something can make a person really think about there life and make them value everything around them, with the reality of death breathing down their back. There are probably tons of people that say that cancer is a disease a person can fight off, mainly because they have defeated it and want to show to the world that if you are strong enough and courageous, nothing can defeat you. I am glad that this disease can be fought off and I respect all the people that have survived this horrible disease but also prey for the people who are diagnosed with it and feel for the families that have lost someone close to them.
Cancer patients often wonder if going through treatments like chemotherapy and radiation are worth the risk of the side effects, in addition to the cancerous side effects. They feel that they can’t enjoy or relax in what a short amount of time they have left because they are bedridden from the nausea and pain that treatments put them through. Patients tell their loved ones to just let them die so long as they don’t have to go through any more pain. Those who are too old, are unable to recover from the effects, or are just too far in the grips of cancer, should refuse the more harsh treatments like chemo and radiation. On the positive side, refusing treatments after a certain point can save their families from the stress and cost of hospital bills. If caught early enough, patients can opt for safer and easier routes to getting rid of cancer like surgery or by doing a stem cell transplant.
The topic that I will be focusing on for this assignment is on the screening of lung cancer, since this is one of the most controversial debates all across the world. The significance of this topic is that when it comes to lung cancer screening, many individuals may or may not abide by it. There are many reasons to why individuals may not want to have their screening done for lung cancer. The top two reasons are that the screening itself is expensive and secondly, the results that they get from the screening may not be accurate. Imagine, if the results came up as a positive, for the ones who really do not have lung cancer, the amount of pain, time and money that they have put into the curing of lung cancer, is painful. At the same, time it is not fair for them to go through this much, when they actually do not have lung cancer. In this paper, I will discuss how lung cancer screening is a controversial issue and why it impacts us as a society and what problems that the family members, friends and medical doctors have to face if something does goes wrong.. Here is a portion of my essay that will appear on the final copy of my essay.
Dietary supplements can be a good thing to use but they aren't always what they say they are. They are used by over half of all Americans and those people normally take a multivitamin or protein supplements after their workouts. In fact, whey protein is the most supplied dietary supplements among all Americans. People would also say that supplements are helpful when they become older in age, but then those people who believe supplements do not work at all. What they don't know is that if individuals take too much or too many supplements, it could hurt them and not benefit these people.
... basis of nitrogen mustard. Theoritically, by treating the patient with poison, it will destroy all types of cells. Then hopefully, once the body is wiped clean, it will be able to recover without any trace of the disease. When this type of treatment is the main standard of fighting cancer, it is understandable that many turn to complementary and alternative medicines, including dietary supplements, natural products, or mind and body practices. Cancer patients will go to extreme lengths to fight the disease, control its symptoms, and to suppress the side effects of the treatment. Although chemotherapy does put patients at risk of harmful side effects, it and the other conventional methods produce a better outcome of remission than alternative medicines alone. Patients should be advised to consult with oncologist about a combination of treatments for best results.
Health claims are booming in today’s world. Many of these consumers are being misled by advertising and believe that their choice will benefit their health. Although herbal medicines have been in existence throughout human evolution, I have chosen to take a deeper look into these health practices. I’m curious if this is just another health claim or if there are actual benefits to taking these medicines.
