Recommended: Mental effects of abortion

Abortion. “An abortion is the premature exit of the products of conception (the fetus, fetal membranes, and placenta) from the uterus” (medicinenet.com). We hear that abortion should be a women’s choice, or that it should be illegal. My thought on the entire situation is that it shouldn’t be illegal but it also shouldn’t be legal. The term “Abortion” means to literally kill the fetus or embryo that is inside of you at that very moment. According to the “Planned Parenthood” website, there are two ways to get rid of said fetus. The first way is the “Pill”, this pill comes in two separate parts the first part is a pill that detaches the embryo from the wall of the uterus and the second one is the one that actually kills the embryo or fetus. One possible physical side effect is you can possibly become sterile. According to Abortionfacts.com, “Researchers have reported that 3 to 5 percent of aborted women are left inadvertently sterile as a result of the operation 's latent morbidity. The risk of sterility is even greater for women who are infected with a venereal disease at the time of the abortion” (Abortion Facts). The second possible outcome is cervical damage. The research of the emotional side effects is outrageous, “Studies within the first few weeks after the abortion have found that between 40 and 60 percent of women questioned report negative reactions. Within 8 weeks after their abortions, 55% expressed guilt, 44% complained of nervous disorders, 36% had experienced sleep disturbances, 31% had regrets about their decision, and 11% had been prescribed psychotropic medicine by their family doctor, up to 33 percent of aborted women develop an intense longing to become pregnant again in order to "make up" for the lost pregnancy, with 18 percent succeeding within one year of the abortion.
