Some people feel that the millennials are the next “greatest generation.” The main reason for this is that they have grown up with brand new advancements in the technological world. These advancements were created to help the human society make everything easier to use and have them be more helpful. The millennials are not the next greatest generation because they don’t think for themselves, rely on others to get an answer to their own problems, and the millenials all share this same sort of friendship for others that is drawn in two separate paths. The article “Millennials: The Me Me Me Generation” by Joel Stein, shows that technology can change the culture of people across the world and also it shows their own interaction with other being a complete failure. Stein states “Even in China, where family history is more important than any individual, the Internet, urbanization and the one-child policy have created a generation as overconfident and self-involved as the Western one. Not only do millennials lack the kind of empathy that allows them to feel concerned for others, but they also have trouble even intellectually understanding others' points of view”(1-2). With the use of this new technology the Millennials are able to adjust their what they wear or how they look to be very similar to a certain culture or lifestyle. The people of China are compared to the Western people, meaning us, because they are also a self involved and overconfident about everything that they resemble the Millennial group of people. The millennials don’t really think about and truly understand someone one, they don't show the same kind of passion and affection for others. Larry Rosen states in his interview that most people can’t live without their phones in their pocket. They need to check it all of the time. He states that our generation will never just stop using technology, but, he says that using this tech break brings people into a real life situation and people aren't thinking about what someone is posting or what they need to post. He says this works at the dinner table because it allows people to get rid of the sense of needed to check their phone and it allows the people the say “okay, I’ll be able to check my phone in 15 minutes.” Doing the technique is what will make the millennials the next greatest generation. What I think about this goes along the same lines of what Larry states, which is that with technology advancing so quickly the millennials that grew up during the 1980-2000 they were able to experience this technology first hand and use it to their best ability. The technology that we have today does make everything much easier, but it also reveals a new aspect of learning and succession if used correctly. If you have used YouTube they are filled with many millennials that use it as a source of income. Also, every person that watches YouTube videos use it as enjoyment or learning purposes. Most of the viewers show true sympathy for the people that they watch, meaning vlogs. The vloggers are a part of your life and also
