Our county is filled with recreational parks such as soccer fields, playgrounds, and basketball courts, so why are there a lack of dog parks that are just as easy to make? It is just as important to ensure that our pets have a safe and open area to run and play than it is for our youth and community, yet my neighborhood chooses to deny essential needs for pet dogs by continuing to overlook this problem. There are no places in my community where dogs are legally allowed to be off their leash. Not having a dog park has been problematic regarding the serenity of not only my neighborhood, but neighborhoods throughout the county. This issue could possibly lead to severe liabilities from overly energetic dogs along with problems to their physical …show more content…
There are only two designated dog parks in the county and none that are convenient to where my house is, therefore my community’s dogs are unable to foster their social comprehension and cannot feel calm or comfortable around other pets and their owners. It is worrisome knowing the liabilities and fines that could be filed against me for an incident my excessively energetic and anxious dog did while out on a walk, despite the fact that I have taken steps to ensure he is properly trained. There are some situations that you simply cannot train or prepare for which is why dog parks can significantly help your pets adjust and become comfortable in a variety of different circumstances. Dog parks provide the adequate physical and mental exercise that dogs need to have good obedience and observation skills that walks alone do not …show more content…
Due to being forced to walk along busy streets, there is always a possibility of a dog and their owner to be struck by a car. There are many communities who do not have sidewalks, such as my own, in which we are constantly being aware of other cars who do not always follow the speed limit or are not paying attention. This also creates a smaller space for my dog to have because I have to have him on a smaller leash to ensure he does not have capability to bolt out into the road. Dog parks allow dog owners to be at ease and not have to worry about oncoming
Have you ever had the pleasure of sitting beside an animal on the Skytrain on your commute to work or stood in line beside one at the grocery store? Did you know that there's a difference between service dogs and emotional-support animals? These are one of the many struggles that individuals are faced when in public. The article "Pets Allowed" written by Patricia Marx gives you an inside look on the struggles people are faced with while also explaining the rules and laws regulating emotional-support animals that many aren't aware of. Many business owners are being taken advantage of by pet
Like humans, dogs need exercise. It is wise to take house-dogs on walks throughout the day. It helps them burn off energy and work their muscles. Dogs are also very social and need interaction with other pets and their humans. Once or twice a week the owners should take their dog to a puppy playground or dog park; this gives them the opportunity to become socialized. Denying these basic elements of a dog's life is one of the worst forms of animal abuse. This is the practice of puppy mills across the country.
Service dogs are a low risk treatment, that can replace dangerous medication and expensive devices. For a purebred service dog is $20,000, however there are non profit organizations that provide service dogs at a much lower cost, but there is usually a long wait list (“Costs”). ASDA (Autism Service Dogs of America) sets a donation goal of $13,500 for every approved family, which is always achieved. Another option is buying the dog from a breeder and paying for the training and accessories. If a puppy is purchased from a dog breeder for around $2,500, in two years time the dog would have costed around $5,200 dollars. The rest of the $ 2,700 comes from vet bills, service gear, training expenses, food, treats, and toys. (“Service”) Getting a dog from a rescue center will cost about the same amount because usually vet bills and training expenses are incrases. However in the long run the owner is most likely to spend more money on a rescue dog, because they often have more issues, physically and mentally which cause them to wear out faster. There is no health insurance that cover service animals. Service dogs however do replace the nasty side effects of some medication, and devices that won't provide companionship. Although the average hearing aid costs $4,000, hearing aides need replaced as the person grows, and need repairs as well, putting the total
When dogs attack people or other dogs at dog parks, it's because rules aren't very enforced. The dog park's visitors in my town have had numerous encounters with the police. A dog facility would solve this issue with a simple legal form that patrons would sign upon registration at the facility. For example, the form would firmly state "ABC Dog Facility is not liable for any injuries that take place" the same way businesses post a sign in their parking lot about theft or damage. As far controlling attacks between dogs, there would be sections for large, medium, and small
Dogs deserve to run around and be free without a leash holding them back. Dogs deserve to have a chance to go further then what their leash allows them to. Pet dogs should be allowed to have their space where their owners can take them, so they are not in just an empty lot or on the streets possibly causing injury to a nearby resident or themselves. Back in 2013, researchers did a report of owners who left their dogs in shelters, which resulted in 65% of people who say they left their pets in a shelter due to bad behavior. If dog parks were available to residents, there would be less dogs in shelters, fewer bite reports from dogs, and less bad behavior from dogs in general.
It does little to address the main problem: irresponsible owners. As animals, dog’s do not have the same moral compass as humans. It is an owner’s job to train, socialize, vaccinate, neuter, license, and provide all necessary living essentials for their pet. Establishing and enforcing leash laws is also important in ensuring the safety of others. Citizens should be educated in knowing dog body language, behaviors that are safe around a dog, and what to when a dog shows hostility. Children not old enough to understand these guidelines should require adult supervision. Taking these steps will help prevent more victims from experiencing the physical and emotional pain related to a
Should Pit Bulls be banned? Many people will argue that the pit bull breed should be banned due to its vicious and unpredictable nature. There is a belief that they are inherently evil creatures and that they have a genetic predisposition to be destructive killing machines. In many states and cities, this has brought about breed specific legislation. Breed specific legislation bans or regulates the ownership of specific breeds of dogs, which almost always includes pit bulls.
Imagine your a little child sitting on your driveway, and then a pit bull comes up and attacks you. You have to go to the hospital, doesn't sound fun for an eight year old, does it? A lot of people think that pit bulls should be banned for that reason, they are dangerous. A lot of people also think that pit bulls are important too, and they shouldn't be banned. A ban on pit bulls is the best way to keep people safe.
Having a dog can be a great experience for people who enjoy their company. These animals are usually friendly and active; they are intelligent and can develop a strong relationship with their owners based in love and care. However, having dogs is a big responsibility for the person who owns it, because they are animals, so they cannot support themselves. Dogs need someone who can feed them, give them love, and someone who can make them exercise. Moreover, these animals need big spaces in order to run and develop their muscles, so the owner has to know that he needs to take a walk with the dog several times a day. Dog parks are a great place to take the dogs because it provides a space where they do not have to be with leash every time, while they can interact with other animals of their specie in a pet-friendly environment. Every city in the country should have at least one of these places, in order to help their inhabitants with their pets and because it is a good part of the life in community.
Most people like dogs more than cats. I like dogs more than cats. More than half a million people in America like dogs as pets more than cats.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 7.6 million companion pets enter animal shelters across the United States each year, nearly evenly disrupted between dogs and cats . These animals are abandoned for reasons including families no longer being able to care for them (sickness/death of an owner), to families not wanting them (the novelty wearing of the animal wearing off), to the animals being born into puppy mills to finally animals that are loved being lost from their owners. These animals do not understand what is happening to them and rely on the kindness of humans to provide for them in shelters until their forever home can be found.
If one wants to live a more responsible, more active, and a healthier life style they should get a dog. Obtaining the previously mentioned qualities are great but gaining a best friend is even better. Dogs are intelligent animals and their personalities are one of a kind. With training, love, and patience any dog can become a great addition to one’s family. Adoption from an animal shelter is a great way to get a dog although there are adoption fees most of the money is being used to vaccinate the dog before its taken to its forever home. Buying a dog from a reputable breeder is another option as how one gets a dog. Reputable breeders usually guarantee a puppy’s health. One might have to go through a few more hoops to be able to buy a dog from
... -- research shows that bans on certain types of dogs are largely ineffective and often a waste of public resources.” Recognized on a federal level, the injustice of Breed Specific Legislation is still misunderstood by states and counties in America. Something you can do to help is be aware of your own considerations of dogs based on their breed and spread the word. We all know dogs are naturally gentle creatures and no group should have a negative stigma attached to them. The easiest way to make a change is to inform those around you- you can go to www.facebook.com and like the page “STOP Breed Specific Legislation” to become involved and aware of the policy’s status across the nation. If these discriminatory laws don’t change, we might not be able to walk our poodles and beagles down the street either. Remember that dogs cannot speak, so we must be their voice.
Next, walkers with vicious dogs in public are irritating. For example, the dog could be dangerous and harm someone if it is in a bad mood. Another example is that if you ask the owner to move further, the owner refuses. The people would want the dog further from them because they are dangerous and the people’s children might go near the dog and it will bite. Lastly, most owners of the vicious dogs do not control their dogs well, and this might frighten the people and their children. Some owners do not care that much, and that is probably why they walk vicious dogs, to scare off people. Public signs are there to be obeyed and followed by for a better community, but some people do not follow them.
The perfect dog sits, stays, rolls over and shakes .the very moment you decide to take on that puppy thats what most people think the puppy will be nothing but a cute playing little dog with good manners, “you must rely on the solid foundation of these seven things socialization, housetraining, sit, down, stay, come, and to walk nicely on leash. “ (De Vito 16)..From the beginning people have learned that a obedient dog brings upon many benefits for both dog and human. In reality when people get that puppy most realise that it was not born with the commands that most associate dogs with.
