College Worth the Investment “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (Nelson Mandela). The question of whether or not college is worth it, is becoming very prominent among teens and their families. From a young age, Kids get asked what they want to be when they grow up. For different people, it’s different things, but it all leads to the question of whether or not they will be attending college. There are many benefits to going to college, but there are also many drawbacks. Many teens coming to the end of their high school careers are now faced with the challenging question of whether or not college is worth the investment. Students who attend college have a much higher paycheck than those who don’t. For example, workers’ who earned “a bachelor’s degree, earned about $415 more a week” than those with just a high school diploma .(“New School” 63). If you total that up for a whole year it equals to $21,580 more than what someone with a high school diploma earns. Even though students attending college do forego a full time paycheck; their money deficit is quickly balanced by the pay difference of a high school diploma and a college degree. While it’s true that college debts are still too high, “...86 percent of college graduates still felt the investment was a good one for them” (Rotherham 79). It’s true that not all successful people go to college, like mentioned earlier, people like Bill gates and Steve Jobs were both college dropouts, however, “...it’s also worth remembering that their companies are bursting with college graduates.” (Rotherham 80) Those were only three people out of the many students that dropped out of college. The only thing these people prove is that college isn’t necessary to be successful; it does not guarantee landing a profitable
