Is a college education worth it? College is a place where individuals get the chance to meet and bond with people around the country. It is also a place where people are able to learn about the career they like. This way they can get jobs that that fit to their liking. According to Procon.org, many people don’t go to college because it’s too expensive and they can’t afford it, their debts are getting too high, or because they can’t get good grades. College does have its advantages and disadvantages but there are ways to avoid the reasons that make high schoolers not want to attend college. Even though college has its flaws, a college education is definitely worth it. First, children of college graduates are healthier. According to Procon.org, children two to five years old have a 6% obesity rate in households run by college graduates. On the other hand, children living in a household run by high school graduates have a 14% obesity rate. A Lancent medical study from 1970-2009 show college graduates have lower infant mortality compared to high school graduates. Also, only 27% of children in elementary and middle school, with high school graduate parents, participate in after school activities. On the other hand, 59% of children, with at least one college graduate parent, are involved in after school activities, according to Procon.org. It makes …show more content…

In 2017 only 34% of jobs require high school a high school education or less, according to Procon.org. In the 1970s 72% of jobs required a high school diploma or less. From December 2007 to January 2010, jobs requiring a college degree grew by about 187,000. A lot of times to get a good paying job you have to have an associate’s degree or more. In fact, by following the economy, Georgeton University believes that in 2018 about 63% of jobs will require some college education or a degree.
