Recently, I wrote an essay in my Pre-History Humantics class about why I felt Romans were inventors of culture versus maintainers of culture. I used comprehensive reading skills to analyze the text and provide examples on how I based my conclusion. In addition, I used persuasive methods in effort to persuade the reader to agree with my stance. In the 2016 Presidential election I casted my vote for a candidate based on an analysis of that person and what I thought they stood
“Man masters nature not by force but by understanding. This is why science has succeeded where magic failed: because it has looked for no spell to cast over nature”. From the beginning of time man and nature has been in conflict with one another because, as a whole, there is no cooperating. Each one tirelessly wants its way. The Man is fighting for dominance and nature w never yielding its authority. In American Literature, many authors illustrate this theme in their writing. Specifically the writers Jack London in The Law Of Life, Stephen Crane The Open Boat and Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Fin. Each explores the relationship between humans and nature but with slightly different methods. Mark Twain uses nature in a realistic way, Jack London in a naturalistic way and Stephen Crane constitutes a combination of both.

The challenging of a book is the attempt to remove or restrict materials, and the banning is the removal of these materials. I believe that books should not be banned for these reasons.
Voice is a tool that allows individuals to communicate their ideas and agendas in a way that can persuade audiences to advance towards change and action. In the film, ‘One Night the Moon', the director, Rachel Perkins explores the discrimination of Aboriginal people and the misogynistic treatment of women, disregarded and disenfranchised by dominant white male constructs, through the context of specific historical events. Perkins utilises distinctive voices to highlight and educate audiences about the history and race relations in our country. Malala Yousafzai's maiden UN speech from 2013 utilises distinctive voices to address global issues of limited education for children, especially girls, poverty and the silencing of voices. Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.

“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him” (G.K. Chesterton). A soldier is a soldier no matter what. If they fight behind a screen, on the front line, or from a controller as long as they’re protecting this country, the people in it, and the people fighting for it they are honorable. Some think that because one does their fighting from a remote control drone means that they have no understanding of war, and in some ways that is true, but they are still taking someone’s life when they choose to press that button just like the solders on the front line takes someone’s life when they pull the trigger. Both people are fighting the same fight: they love the country they are defending the people in it they just do it from different standpoints. Drones

What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
Speeches have been used for thousands of years to communicate ideas and influence others. Ralph Waldo Emerson; American poet, essayist and lecturer, once said, "Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel. It is to bring another out of his bad sense into your good sense." He was correct, speech is indeed a powerful tool which has the ability to influence and persuade an audience; if an audience is positioned carefully and the speech is written in such a way that the audience 's emotions, logic and trust in the speaker are all appealed to. This is rhetoric. Rhetoric must be used in order for a speech to effectively convey information in such a way that an audience member is persuaded and influenced by the author’s ideas.
