Scientists have been trying to find out life on other planets since long. Moon was their first target that disappointed them badly. After finding no life on moon they started their journey towards the Mars. Does life exist on Mars debate is one that has gotten a lot of news and is considered very enigmatic and interesting (Smith, 2011). Researchers keep on sharing new information regarding Mars with people to equip them with the knowledge of new discoveries. The discovery of liquid on the surface of Mars, meteorite ALH84001 and color patches have proved that life exist on Mars but recently NASA declared that there is no life found there in the planet.
Water is a sign of life that scientists did not find on moon but in 1960s the NASA Mariner missions found some liquid flowed on the surface of Mars. This thing encouraged the scientists to believe that life exist on the Mars. In 1976, one of the Viking landers found water frost on rocks and in 2008 Phoenix lander found snow falling in Mars. A great number of observations have demonstrated that the polar caps of Mars are amalgam of both water ice and carbon dioxide ice. More recently, scientists have used gamma ray spectroscopy and observed that water ice is very much spread on the
After spending years on finding life on the Mars NASA has failed to find any evidence that its atmosphere is supporting any kind of life. The patches of colors which were noticed by the astronomers in 1950s and found that they change with the seasons were found nothing but a false story (Getz & McCarty, 1997). Now NASA has declared that there are no color patches, canals and seasonal changes occur in the Mars. They are of the view that no life exist in Mars. Most of the scientists believe that instead of wasting time and money on finding life in Mars we should move towards other planet so we can find life
I believe that it is possible for Mars to have the ability to support life because of the possibility of there being water increases the probability of organisms being able to exist on Mars’ ecosystem, therefore the chance of Mars being able to sustain life. Furthermore, even if water never did or will, as a matter of fact, exist on Mars there is a chance that an organism is able to survive without it.
...egular people, believing that if someone was to go to Mars they might have been able to survive A variety of organic compounds present may mean a life is probable. Also, if the trip to Mars in 2023 turns out to be a positive one, then it will prove to everyone that in the future more and more people will move to this other planet. A lot of people will find it unnecessary to stay on Earth if they can start a new life somewhere else in the galaxy. Even though the trip will have America paying billions and billions of dollars, it truly is worth it. A life on Mars could mean living to an older age and being healthier. The point of going to the Red Planet is to find out if there is a better life somewhere other than on Earth. Just like NASA astronaut, Buzz Aldrin said, humans will most likely reach Mars and when they do humans will turn into a two-planet species.
Scientists have dreamt over the possibility that it may be possible to live on another planet. Some think that Mars has that potential to support life, if it's hidden resources are uncovered and exploited to their full potential. There is even evidence that it once contained enough water that it had been possible to hold life. Think about it, what if we could transform it into such a place, even if only our children's children get to see any result? The following will describe Mars, present evidence of ice and water, give possible ideas for the future exploration of Mars, and give reasons for why it is important.
There are over a million different planets in our universe. There is not one planet like the other, though some people may argue with this fact. Jupiter, Saturn, are all gas giants, but they also are made up of different gasses. Jupiter is made up of mostly hydrogen, Saturn is made up of hydrogen and helium. I am sure that everyone knows that the rock planets are not alike in many different ways, there is mercury which is very hot, and most likely just a planet of lava. Then there is earth which is rock and water. All that being said life could exist on any planet with water and solid ground. In my own opinion, I think that life could exist on other planets than our own. Life can exist if there is the tiniest spec that can grow, evolve, and become whatever it needs to survive. Honestly how does one think that veins of water on mars were formed?
Today, we know quite a bit about Mars. Nasa recently found water, we know its dimensions, and we haven’t found any signs of life. However, in 1950, we knew significantly less. Ray Bradbury took this to his advantage and wrote about a Mars with not only life, but civilization. Years later, Hollywood decided to turn his stories into a cheesy, and partially accurate TV show. Though Hollywood was for the most part loyal to Bradbury’s stories, there were definitely some changes, especially in “And the Moon be Still be as Bright.”
The water contained under the soil has had some various effects on the Mars terrain. When the robots were on mars collecting samples, they found some rocks that looked like rocks from prehistoric life here on earth. When analyzing these samples, the scientists deemed that the water was very acidic and salty. This is similar to some of the earlier times in the Australian area.
With the discovery of water, we can now think about if there is or was life there or in other places in the universe. Stuart Clark, a NASA scientist revealed that the robots on Mars, Spirit and Opportunity, have been able to travel around the planet to the places scientist have detected as wet and taken samples and found that the soil is wet and that the air contains a lot more humidity in it than they thought (Water on Mars). This helps that theory that water is on mars because Earth has a humid atmosphere because of our oceans. The question “is there or was there life on Mars?” Came one step closer to the discovery of water. Since water plays a major key role in life because it contains oxygen, there is a possibility that species could have been able to breathe long ago. We know that there is an Atmosphere on Mars, but it is a very thin atmosphere, so with barely any oxygen, which would mean that the planet is most likely deserted. Things like other If we could get some astronauts that could dig into the planet we could find fossils like we have with the dinosaurs. With a discovery of a fossil, we would know that we are not on the only planet able to make a life. The Kepler Satellite has been searching the universe for a long time and has found over one thousand planets and only one that is like ours, Kepler-186f. If I was the director of NASA I would have already
Everything changed on August 7, 1996, when NASA and President Clinton told the world that a very primitive life form had been found in a meteorite, from 1984. President Clinton had this to say about the matter: “This is a product of years of exploration and months of intensive study by the world’s most distinguished scientists. Like all discoveries, this one will and should continue to be reviewed, examined and scrutinized.'; After Clinton said this it was almost as if a scientific boom had occurred. NASA research teams of scientists at Johnson Space Center began to look for life as well. NASA began to send robots and Satellites to Mars. Unfortunately, they found nothing or lost contact with the robots or Satellites in the process. During the year of 1999 NASA sent up two rockets toward Mars and both were failures. Due to the failures, time has been given for scientists to blueprint a credible and step-by-step search for life on the Red Planet. Without the pressure to return Martian samples to Earth any time soon, new schemes for automated, on-the-spot detection of past or present Mars life can be flown.
The first fact known about aliens is that there are Earth-like planets. To show this, “This is the first definitive Earth-sized planet found in the habitable zone around another star” (Kramer). This planet is Kepler-186f. To explain, if there is a planet could sustain life, then there is a good chance that it does. There is life on Earth, so there is a good chance of life on other planets.
We know Mars by many names- the red planet, the fourth planet from the sun, Earth's neighbor, Tiu. This planet was named after the Roman god of war because of its' red color. We have seen Mars in the sky and dreamed for centuries. Some people even theorized that there was intellligent life on Mars. Now, we know there is no life on Mars, but we continue thinking about and learning about Mars every day through the Curiosity rover and other devices.
...nced in 1996 that they had discovered evidence of fossilized microbial life in a meteorite from Mars, this was a huge event. Former President Bill Clinton even conveyed a national address about the discovery. Based on the evidence provided by this event, it is highly unlikely that we are the only example of intelligent life in our universe.
The Mars rover has relayed data that a layer of water is likely to be present under the planet’s visible surface. In addition to the rover’s findings, photos captured (such as the one above) have showed us that although we cannot see the water that is on Mars, it is (or has been) there. The pictures that conclude this data depict mountains that have eroded in a pattern that resemble that of flowing water on Earth. Thus, giving proof that there has been flowing water on
With a field as large as space is, metaphorically and literally, there is no end to all the advantages that can come of exploring the magnificent cosmos. One of the major questions we face currently is the possibility of life on other planets. “NASA's biggest ambition is the hunt for life and a habitat that can support life. Several planned or prepared missions will specifically explore the question of whether or not life exists, or once existed, elsewhere in out solar system” (Folger 3). That's exactly what we plan on using the Curiosity rover for. The MSL (Mars Space Laboratory) Curiosity rover was launched November 26th, 2011 and landed on Mars on August 6th, 2012 (Launch 2). “MSL Curiosity's mission is to analyze the climate, geology, and habitability of Mars to see if there is or has ever been life on Mars. Then, after gathering enough data, it will see if it's feasible to send a manned mission to Mars” (Anthony 2). We are already searching ...
Mars is a very similar planet to earth in relation to size and atmosphere. Therefore it seemed like the most likely place to search for life. At the end of the 19th century, an American named Percival Lowell built himself an observatory so that it was possible for him to study Mars in intimate detail when its orbit was closest to Earth. At this time it had recently been suggested that the planet had a system of channels on the surface, present from the evaporation of flowing water. Looking through his telescope Lowell became convinced he could see a network of artificial canals. This led him to believe that there were intelligent beings on Mars who had built these canals. However, spacecraft have now visited Mars and found that there is no evidence of water at all. It is now thought that the lines he could see were the combination of Lowell's overactive imagination, and scratches on the lens of his telescope. We are now searching one of Jupiter's moons, Europa, as this seems to be the next likely place to hold life.
...ws radiation from the sun to expose the surface of the planet, adding to environment changes. If life exists on Mars today, it is most likely hiding beneath the surface. Over the past four billion years Earth has had many rocks blown from the surface of Mars, after much research, scientists say that of the thirty-four meteorites, three have the potential to carry evidence of past life on Mars (Carey, 2006). Researches have gathered evidence and continue to explore for life outside of Earth. Earth has provided these scientists with enough knowledge to understand the components needed to sustain life, therefore any research found is compared to the knowledge already understood about life on Earth. Earth is home to billions of plants, animals, bacteria and all types of living things, it is where human beings have evolved and adapted making this planet our home.
