The recent gun shooting in Florida has pushed the movement on gun control ad gun laws. The students of the high school in Parkland, Florida have augmented their voice to get stricter gun control laws and fight the NRA. The cause of more gun control is justified, lives have been lost and not everyone should have gun. In our country, with such a large population, there is more possibilities of an outbreak of a mentally unstable person. This larger chance of any type of public shooting should be cause enough for the government to take action on the situation. Not only does gun violence affect the public, gun violence also affects the government “According to the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE), in 2010, gun violence cost each …show more content…
person in the United States roughly $564 and the US government $5.5 billion in lost tax revenue; $4.7 billion in court costs; $1.4 billion in Medicare and Medicaid costs; $180 million in mental health care for victims; $224 million in insurance claims processing; and $133 million for law enforcement and medic response to shooting injuries” (ProCon). The government is losing many billions of dollars in situations of gun violence.
Prevention of these incidents should be one of their min priorities; however, because of organizations like the NRA they keep weapons of destruction out for the public to use. This should not be the reality because lives are being lost and nothing is being done about it. There should be action being taken against these acts of violence. There should be laws being taken into consideration to hinder the purchasing and using of guns. There should not be semi-automatic weapons, guns of war, open for the public to purchase. Because this is the reality of the nation, personally, I fully support the March for Our Lives movement. While I might not agree with everything they say, I do agree with the purpose of the march. The students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School endured a horrifying experience and had the right reaction “Just days after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which killed 17 people, students-turned-activists echoed the words ‘never again’ and ‘not one more,’ pushing lawmakers for increased gun control and better school safety” (Fox). The students made the right decisions after the
attack. They decided to take action and they are committed to it. There are already marches planned for the month of March and school nationwide can take part in it. School safety is crucial for students and the parents of those students. It is a national problem that should be take into a deeper consideration. We as a country need to be proactive in any situation. Gun shooting is a national crisis and we as Americans need to be supportive of all causes that keeps people safe.
...gun provided a convenient way for crime; people could get any dangerous weapons to endanger the safety of others. In the article, “At Least 9,900 People Have Died From Guns In The U.S. Since The Newtown Shooting: Slate”, Dominique Mosbergen pointed out that the number of mass shooting kept growing because of the lax gun control system. For example, 20 year old, Adam Lanza took several legal guns and went to Sandy Hook Elementary School after killing his mother. Besides that, he only spent five minutes to murder 20 children and six adult members of staff (Mosbergen). This school shooting in the United States completely shocked the whole world. At this point, many people had focused on the regulatory issues of guns. Mosbergen stated, “As the nation mourned in the wake of that unthinkable tragedy, many citizens and lawmakers raised their voices to demand” (Mosbergen).
Left, right, Liberal, Conservative, Democratic, Republican. There are a lot of synonyms for the sides of our nation divided. Divided on many things: religion, political views, morals, etc.. For a nation that prides ourselves on extraordinary security and unity, it is quite ironic that so many issues can cause such distress and uproar within communities. One such issue is gun control. As a white male in a middle-lower class family that has never owned a gun, I may be somewhat biased. Objectively as I can, I am going to report the facts and more importantly, try to find the core issues at play.
For many years, America has witnessed mass shootings within it’s borders. In 2015 alone, there were 372 mass shootings (Oldham). The question most Americans are faced with is: do we need more gun control or is gun control the problem? With more gun control, it can be made mandatory that protective devices are used on firearms to prevent accidental harm. Gun control creates mandatory laws such as the requirement for an individual to pass a background check before he/she is permitted to purchase a firearm. Gun control has also been proven to prevent suicides due to the increased difficulty of obtaining a firearm. Those who believe that gun control is the problem claim that by removing one 's firearms, you are endangering them to threats that
The NRA argues that the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees individuals the right to own and carry guns. They are concerned that federal regulations will continue to increase until owning a handgun will be difficult to achieve, infringing on their Constitutional rights. They also argue that if law-abiding citizens have guns, they are safer from criminals, bringing crime rates down.
Today in the United States many people argue over the fact of guns being legal or illegal. There are people using guns for personal safety and there are others who use them for crimes, as well as for other situations. Firearm deaths in the United States have slowly been decreasing from year to year with all these bills getting passed to promote a safer country than ever before. Guns are the main weapon for youth suicide, school shootings, and for committing murder. In 2010 there were 2,711 infants, child, and teenage firearm deaths. As in school shootings and in committing murder, studies show shooters often had multiple, non-automatic guns, shootings were planned, most youth tell before shooting, shooters have a history of being bullied or threatened, shooters have mental issues, and shooters have done suicidal gestures before (Gun Control with School Shootings). Although there are people who use guns for murdering, there are also those who oppose guns being used without the proper requirements. 85% of all respondents to the survey supporting requiring states to report people to national background-checks systems who are prohibited from owning gu...
Gun violence has reached an all-time high. After the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, widespread concern forced legislators to take a second look at our gun laws. When twenty children and six educators were gunned down, many citizens were outraged and begged authorities to pass more stringent gun laws because with fewer guns, there could possibly be fewer incidents involving gun violence. Many people believe that the widespread availability of guns is making society unsafe. Each year, nearly 100,000 Americans are shot, 32,000 of them die, 47 children are shot every day, and eight of them die, according to the U.S. News Digital Weekly. In order to solve this problem, more stringent background checks should be required by all applicants, restriction and enforcement on the sale of guns at gun shows need to improve, and the availability of automatic weapons should be limited.
A shooting here; a shooting there; an every day occurrence heard in the newspapers and on the news channels on television. New media are reporting a shooting somewhere. Whether the shootings are accidental or intentional; they are happening across the United States. Nevertheless, in today’s society, gun violence is sparking debate and controversy on how to control gun violence. Throughout the country, thousands of laws and regulations have been created to aid in the control of guns. Through much study, the gun laws and regulations in place have very little effect on the number of gun related injuries and deaths. More needs to be done to establish an effective way to control gun violence.
Gun violence in America is a public health crisis, which needs to be recognized and changed by legislatures, and the voting American. As conscious Americans, we need to vote for changes to gun laws that would improve background checks nation-wide, make firearm registration mandatory, restrict the sale of assault weapons and weapon modifications that give the shooter military-grade fire power, and invest in gun-safe technology and safe firearms storage designs. This type of technology will help prevent criminally oriented people from accessing guns, and will help prevent the accidental deaths of many children by guns. This essay will explain the reforms needed to help ensure Americans can still exercise their 2nd amendment right of owning firearms, and preventing the unnecessary deaths of many Americans at the same time.
Eighty-nine people die from gun violence in the United States every day according to the Brady Campaign , from school children to victims of domestic violence to people going about their daily lives. As we mourn the lives of those killed in incidents of gun violence across the country, we need to take action. We should all do everything in our power to keep tragedies like this from happening again. When it comes to addressing mass shootings, we need new answers
The debate over gun control in America has constantly been brought up over the years due to gunmen killing large amounts of people in shootings. From Columbine to Sandy Hook, or the shootings of the two reporters in West Virginia, these public shootings are occurring everywhere. Lawmakers and civilians alike are pushing for increased gun control in hopes of preventing the same tragedies. Anyone that has been affected by the shootings has been pushing Congress and state governments to force new sanctions on the government. Over the past three years, Congress has shot down all the laws despite the large amounts of public support.

His wife had attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and he told us how he feared for his children’s safety as well as his own. He revealed to us that he never feels entirely safe in public, not even in Church. People should be able to go to school, Church, a concert or a mall without having to fear for their safety. Following the Parkland shooting, a brave group of survivors organized the “#NeverAgain” movement in hopes that no more mass shootings would ever take place (Aggeler). On March 24, students and families from across the country protested gun violence and demanded that leaders take action to assure that no child is ever shot at school again at the “March for Our Lives.”
Gun violenceMason white Military grade weapons should not be allowed in people’s homes. There is not one reason for anyone to be caring an AR15. They are high powered weapons that could kill a crowd of people in a heartbeat. Gun control has been the hottest topic in the news lately, but nothing hasimproved. The government does not want to take normal hunting rifles or hand guns away fromthe people, just the high powered guns that you would not use for hunting. It is heart breaking that kids are now scared to go to school and they are sitting there wondering if their school will be next. The problem is, no one will go out of their way to fight for gun control until there school has been effected, but then it’s too late. According
Guns do not cause violence, although guns are the tool that it is done with. Guns should not be banned, or made illegal. A gun can never kill simply because it is a firearm. There must always be a person behind that weapon with intent to do harm for it to be apart of violence. America is also a country founded upon the ideas that we have the right to not only defend ourselves from others, but defend ourselves from unfair governments and policing's.
United State had a long history with guns. It is a well-known fact that American love their gun. In the United States, it is so easy for someone to own a gun. I come from Vietnam where only the police can have a gun. In Vietnam, we have a super strict gun control law.
