Vietnam, a country like no other rich in culture, traditions, and with a multi diverse community has been the topic of many debates for years and often is mentioned with animosity and most of us only associate this country with a negative time in our history, the Vietnam War. We will like to show what makes this Country so unique and hopefully teach others that there is more to their culture than just the negative connotations associated with a terrible war.
One of the things that make Vietnam so unique is their multi –diverse population and their language. There are a total of 54 ethnics groups in the country. These groups have been influenced by Chinese, French, Russian and American. The Viet (Kinh) people are the majority group and accounts for over 86 percent of the population (vietnamembassy-usa.org), they are scattered all over the country especially in the major cities, the Red River Delta, the coastal delta and the Mekong delta. The other 53 groups are scattered over the mountains area spreading from north to south. Some of the minority groups have a population around 1 million each are: Tay, Thai, Muong, Hoa, Khmer and Nung. Some of these groups work in farming, growing rice plants, while others work on hunting and fishing. Many ethnics groups split their population into social echelons and they are more oriented toward kin groups and small communities. All ethnic groups have a unique culture and dialects but they all shared the basic way of life characteristics.
For the Vietnamese people, family is the center of their culture. The traditional family structure is patriarchal and the eldest male is the decision maker and the family spokesman; they are highly respected and honored. Outside the home the husband will make ...

Since Vietnam is so diverse when it comes to their ethnic groups, having a way to communicate is very important. For them, non-verbal communication is an essential part of their language. They can talk and understand others while preserving their regional dialects and maintaining a peaceful environment among them.
Before this project I had little knowledge of Vietnam. Every time I heard the name, I just started thinking about the war that affected so many lives and how this terrible incident became part of our history. Vietnam is rich in culture; its ethnics groups are so unique and diverse in many ways but they all shared the basic characteristics of a Country that fought and overcame so many obstacles while keeping their essence and their roots.
