important that the public is educated and informed about animal experimentation. Many people are not aware of all the negative aspects that animal testing actually has. As mentioned above, it is urgent to educate the public about issues such as animal testing. Therefore, this paper will allow the readers to understand why animal testing should not be encouraged in research laboratories. Furthermore, the readers will obtain possible solutions to help animals avoid being harmed in the labs. This paper will argue that the results achieved through animal experimentation may not always be reliable, that the cost of animal experimentation is very high, and that there are possible alternatives to animal testing that are available. All around the world, there are thousands and thousands of chemicals that are needed to be tested and normally they are tested on animals. Yet, in the article titled Regulating Toxic Chemicals, Jennifer Weeks states “Scientists agree that current approaches, which rely heavily on animal testing, are too slow and expensive to cover hundreds of new chemicals each year” (Weeks). There are many chemicals that still require testing in order to be aware of any effects they may have on humans. As Weeks mentions in her journal, the cost of testing the unknown chemicals may require a large fund which is not very convenient for researchers. Also, the process of testing the chemicals on the animals is very slow. This is very important to take into consideration because information can be time sensitive at times and having the results as soon as possible can help scientists with their research. Finding the results within a reasonable time and a considerate price can make all the difference for researchers and that is why animal experimentation does not seem like the best option for some cases. It does not seem reasonable to spend a great deal of money on a procedure that will take too long to determine the results. The number of chemicals that need to be tested is very high and at a slow rate, animal testing would not be the appropriate
