The average family spends $100-$500 a month on sports. People have been doing sports for ever. Some people would be very angry if schools decided to get rid of them. Sports are dangerous though. They are causing parents to pressure their kids, students are becoming sleep deprived, and they are dangerous even though they can be healthy in some ways. Youth sports are harmful to students because they can be parents are pressuring their kids, they are dangerous, and many students are becoming sleep deprived. (three reasons why they are bad) It is true that youth sports are an important part of America’s society with over five million youths participating in sports. However, that doesn’t change that youth sports can be harmful to anybody playing them. First, youth sports are harmful because parents are pressuring their kids. According to the video, “Your podcasts have really helped me realize the pressure i was unknowingly placing on my 10 year old daughter just by being overly invested in her sport.” (Parents Who Pressure Their Sports Kids) Some parents don’t even know they are placing unnecessary pressure on their kids. In the video, “She didn’t want to disappoint me and that had a negative effect on her and stopped her development.” (Parents Who Pressure …show more content…
If there are many injury reports then the sport has to be pretty dangerous. “Based on almost 1,900 injury reports submitted to the RIO, the researchers estimate there was 517,726 football-related injuries during the 2005-2006 season at the high school level across the United States.” (High School, College Football Comes With Risk) High school sports are more dangerous because the athletes are still growing. “High school athletes are less physically mature and have less muscle mass than the collegiate athletes, for instance. They also have incomplete growth plates, meaning their bones are still developing.” (High School, College Football Comes With
The Columbus Children’s Hospital was the first to compare injuries between college and high school players. I can infer this when I read this from the text, “Four out of every 1,000 high school football exposure resulted in an injury, while eight out of every 1,000 collegiate football exposure resulted in an injury.” In conclusion, I could say that yes, high school football is dangerous. Most of its danger would come from not having the correct equipment, or running plays with too many head hits. If coaches would reduce plays with head hits, punish those that hit too hard for no reason in need, and provide better gear, high school football would be safe.
Young athletes put in danger by the competition, aggressiveness, and intensity of sports. Kids everyday are being pushed past limits by coaches parents and fans. The intensity of sports has become so high they are causing mental and physical exhaustion. Sports like wrestling has kids eat different to either lose gain weight. Football player, Baseball player, and even cheerleader have to work out in extreme temperatures. Some kids involved in competitive sports have been taking weight lifting classes and even just conditioning. The youth are being put in danger due to how competitive, aggressive, and intense youth sports have become.
Sports are a popular pastime among all ages and types of people. People not only participate in them for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons. Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. Athletics are great and enjoyable for many reasons, but there can be a point where sports participation can go too far and become negative for children and adults. Sports specialization for young people is an increasing trend that results in sports having a negative impact on individuals and society.
In the United States some sports are dangerous for could hurt future. Football has become a national topic of if football is really dangerous for kids today. The national football league has put much pressure on pop Warner with a lot head injuries and deaths with people who had concussions while playing. Physical play gas suffered the brain after the effect years of playing football and resulting in suicide, violence. Kids shouldn't play football it has many risk factors while playing because head injuries, promotes violence, and depends on football for future devalues education.
Furthermore, there are more injuries caused by playing youth sports and there are also a lot of participants and parents but the cost of the sport is a main part of the sport too. “An article was written highlighting a woman and her son; she estimated she had spent $50,000 since her son was in the first grade so he could play basketball.” (Monumental Network, article was by Tim Richardson) That cost not only included him playing in basketball clinics and c...
...an affect how kids do in school with the sports interfering with homework and studying time. Some teenaers focus more on sports than school in some cases while hoping for a sports scholarship. This can hurt their future. With so much focus on practicing with sports, school gets less attention than it needs.
youth sports [were] the one haven for good sportsmanship," says Darrell Burnett, a clinical child psychologist and youth sports psychologist. "Not anymore. It's not just a game anymore." With technology (etc) distracting our children with violence and so on, we cannot afford to ruin what sports may do for them. With sports being just one of the few things left that can contribute to success in life, education, and health, parents need not to put any sort of unnecessary pressure on their kids at such a young age, or any age for that matter, ever.
Some of the effects can turn into very serious issues. Sports are a great thing to watch, but on the other hand everyone needs a childhood not just of sports ”We have a generation of children that have been pushed to achieve parental dreams instead of their own, and prodded to do more, more, more and better, better, better. The pressure and anxiety is stealing one thing our kids will never get back; their childhood” (The Race to Nowhere in Youth Sports). Childhood is one thing every kid needs to experience at a young age, sports can happen any time during childhood however don’t let it take over your childhood. If they want to play sports at that age that’s the parent 's choice although “Today’s athletes start earlier than ever, with kids as young as 2 or 3 taking sports lessons and joining leagues by age 5. About 26.1 million children, more than half of all 6 to 17 year-olds, suit up and play a team sport” (Hyman). At the age of 2 or 3 toddlers can get hurt way too easily. At that age, most don’t have a concept of what is going on during the game. Children need a say of what they want to play “Parents have too much control in our sports, the two and three year olds don’t need to be playing yet. It’s the parents that force the kids to play at that age” (Hyman). Not every kid will play college or even professional, but yet if we start them even younger the more we burn them out and no longer want to play. Sports can cause
By now almost everyone has heard about child obesity in America, but just how high are the rates? The answer might surprise you. According to Nate Whitman, a writer for The Huffington Post, “rates of obesity have doubled in 2- to 5-year-olds, quadrupled in 6- to 11-year-olds, and tripled in 12- to 19-year-olds” (par. 2). This is due to more children staying inside and only doing activities such as video games. They do not interact with anyone besides whomever they are talking to online. These findings are astonishing to say the least. What can we do to combat this? Involvement in organized sports helps children develop their social skills, improve their academic progress, and stay active.
Sports can help many at- risk youths. In order to participate in sports you need to be committed and willing to work hard. You also have to learn to respect others and accept that winning isn’t the only measure of success. Losing can build character as well. When youth participate in a sports they enjoy, they are less likely to engage in behaviors that are harmful or dangerous to themselves and others. It is for these reasons schools should strive to maintain athletic programs for their students.
Are high school sports beneficial or not for students? I personally believe if a student is in a high school sport they’re forced to prioritize between school and their sport, and at a young age I believe the student would decide to use his time to improve in his sport instead of school. Which in the long run would affect his academics, unless they decide to stay up late and work on their homework to keep up with both school and their sport. But, even like that in time the lack of sleep would catch up to them, and cause them to do even worse in both academics, and sports. High school sports are like the lotto in my opinion, many play but only a few get rewarded for their work. Therefore, high school sports cause more negativity than positivity.
At some point students has had trouble either at home or at school and need to release stress or tension. Some of these times the teens choose to do activities that are wrong. Youth want to feel comfort and accepted, therefore they sometimes will do events that are not well for their body just to fit in with a group. There is evidence that proves sports can reduce the likeliness of teens committing crimes, or getting into trouble. Tees look at the negative substances such as drugs, alcohol, or tobacco, and think that they can do whatever they want. Many teens look at these activities and think they are “exciting” or “cool” and want to try them, but if they are busy with sports they most likely will not be as easily influenced. Participation in sports helps keep teens out of trouble by taking up their free time which could be used for mischief, gives them an opportunity to meet new friends for positive role models, provides teens an outlet to develop a higher self-esteem, and also enables student to set goals for on and off the field.
It 's been outrageous , how many kids get injured per year playing youth sports for school and organizations. The youth who play sports receive plenty medical attention throughout the year due to injuries cause from actions made occuring in games. Health plays a big part in sports because if your are are not healthy many things can go wrong with the body including dehydration, heart problems , and muscle spasm. Playing a sport can be very hard to juggle with school and also getting talked down by coaches and parents. Dehydration is a high possibility because of outside sports that happen in the spring/summer and playing and practicing in humid conditions that you are not well prepared for can be bad and there will be consequences. Parents and
Sports have always been a vast part of American culture. We give our babies different sports items to play with. From the time they can walk they have sports pushed on them. If you go to any store to buy toys for children you can find all sorts of different sports items for kids. Many parents push these sports items on their child hoping that they will be the next phenom in the world of sports. Who wouldn’t want this for their child? Athletics can open up all types of opportunities. It can pay for college and if they happen to play at the professional level they will be making vast amounts of money. Although sports can be great are these parents pushing their kids to hard? No matter if there are some detrimental aspects to sports there is always the positive of the life lessons that can be learned.
In the article, Health fitness revolution: it stated “ It is well know that children who participate in youth sports are less likely to dropout of school, and become involved in drugs and alcohol activity. While playing a youth sport can also make positive impacts on kids academic performance and sociability”(Health fitness Revolution). Playing in a youth sport, can clearly help the kids stay on task with their school work and their grades, however it can also influence kids to stay away from drugs and harmful substances that can negatively affect the body and their life. Kids will not want to ruin the way they play sports, and by taking drugs it is very likely that will happen. The kids will not want to take any chance of ruining their life just to take a pill or a liquid. Sport is an attractive activity that can often draw kids away from using drugs so that when they get older they will have a more successful and normal life(SportandDev.org). Sports will not always be about winning, but also about being a good loser. It will enable you to learn from your losses and apply them to your next game. Youth sports are able to take care of young kids and keep them away from the harmful substances. By playing a youth sport, the kids will be able to achieve more of their goals in life by not doing drugs and ruining their brain(SportandDev.org). Doing
