Cell phones are a great asset for families because they can keep in touch with their loved ones at any time, basically anywhere but, what is the earliest age the members of your family should acquire one? There are a lot of safety issues to consider before investing in another cell phone. The "Safer Kids Summit" presented this issue and this is what I found: There are benefits when your tween has a cell phone as expressed by the speech “Tweens are ready for cell phones.” “Tweens can contact their parents at any time and vice versa” but this speech does not include any study that proves that tweens are ready for cell phones. Including a survey that says “Almost 60% of children ages 8 to 12 already have cell phones” does not proof that they
In my opinion I agree with Deborah Pendergast and believe that tweens are ready to have a cell phone. One reason is because it helps parents have a sense of security with knowing where their children are at all times. Secondly, it’s a great way to teach children responsibility. Lastly, it could be used as an educational tool.
We as humans have always needed the ability to communicate with each other; this is how we express our emotions, feelings, concerns and also how we pass down our knowledge from one another. Communication has been the key to hour species survival; this is how we let each other know the latest information that relates to our lives. However, getting the information from one place to another especially across countries or even continents has always been a difficult task, many times the information got lost or it just never reaches its destination. Human kind has always tried to make it easier to communicate with one another. Sometimes it’s for financial purposes and others for necessity. Most if not all of the information in the past was carried on paper, paper has been one of our most important means of communication for the last couple millennium. We have used paper to write letter to our loved ones who are far away, to relay information during the war, or simply to write a poem. However, due to the lack of a better delivery system the delivery or paper mail had always been a slow method of delivery.
In today's modern world technology is taking over, more specifically cellphones. What use to be a luxury is now a necessity. Cellphone usage has taken over in many aspects of people's lives especially in teenagers, but can it really be that bad? Everyone should keep up to date, but there should be a balance. Teenagers have the highest usage of cellphone services. Teenagers are no longer communicating verbally with each other but rather, texting, tweeting, Instagram posting, updating profiles. How are cellular phones affecting teenagers literacy in New York City for the past year?
If, you had a child and they asked what would you say? I would probably think about it in a few ways. Like 'Do they really need it right now?' 'When's the right age for it?' or 'Would they overuse it or take it to school for no reason?'. If, you give your child a phone to early they can get addicted and they could possibly bring it to school for emergancy. Some sources say 11 others say 13-16 or in their starts of middle school years.
All evidence considered, it is reasonable that the points cited above persuasively support the position that parents should not give tweens cell phones, these points being that children may fall victim to cyberbullying, they may be exposed to websites inapporpriate for their age range, and they may be put in danger. Why does it matter if tweens are given cell phones or not? In order to keep children safe, parents should make a conscious effort to remove as many unnecessary dangers from their child's life as possible. Cell phones represent one of these
Even though the cell phone ownership among teens have been stable since 2011, the ownership of smart phone has grown significantly from 23% in 2011 to 37% in 2012. Figure 4 from a study on teens and technology, which was done in 2013 by the Berkman center for internet and society at Harvard University, shows the percentages of teens’ cell phones and smartphones ownership.
Here are the many reasons why kids in middle school should have phones. They are very important reason why kids should have the right to socialize without their parents having to worry about them. When a kid hits middle school he or she automatically wants to start leaving the house more often.Which is a good thing but it’s always good to keep your parent or parents informed on where you are or how you're doing.
So I think kid's above the age of 9 should be able to get a phone. Think about this what if your kid is Ten and has a pass to the pool by their self, You would want your child to call/Text/Email you when they got there. Or if your kid was 14 and was going to a party with friends and it's there first time, you would want to know if they where doing good, or if they wanted you to pick them up. And get this, For some children, smartphone ownership starts even sooner- Even second graders under the age of 7! "I think that age is going to trend
Firefly, LG Migo, Disney and others started making cell phones for children. They designed them with the traditional keyboard that are suitable for smaller hands. Figure 2 provides two examples of those phones. They also offered calling plans that are appropriate for the use of children. But children were not interested in the kiddie-looking cell phones. Instead, they preferred adult cell phones. They “don’t want what we call “fisher price” phones. They want the real deal, with the camera and the QWERTY keyboard for text messaging” said a Verizon Wireless spokesman. (Solomon 2011) When cell phone companies realized that kids nowadays are hunting for “what’s cool”, they acted accordingly. Companies now have smartphones for children, with the camera and the QWERTY keyboard.
I think that parents should really consider all the pros and cons before giving their child a cell phone. Even though it can be safer if a kid to has one, there a lot of other things that should be taken in consideration like the child's well being and health as well as their education.
Kids all around are not able to use their cell phones because of older adults saying that they might cheat on tests or quizzes. That is not entirely true you never know if kids will use their cell phones during class. I think it is right to use cell phones during class. Not only will they have better grades they will be able to communicate during passing periods to talk to you about important things. So having their phones on them for school works is handy, grades improve, and they are a learning
Kids using cell phones and other tablets are becoming more and more distant from their parents, for the simple fact that the Kids are on the tablets/phones more often than they are with their parents, and as a child you need to bond with your parents and not a tablet/phone. Kids are becoming so used to playing on tablets/phones that they are not going outside and enjoying life as kids did when there was not technology.
Many children all around the world have cell phones, 65% of the world’s children make contact with a cell phone. (“Gsma Intelligence”) While many parents believe that their child should not own a cell phone, most parents want them to have one in case of an emergency. While many children believe that cell phones will help their lives, I believe this to be a horrible idea : Children can misuse their privileges to have a cell phone, cell phones can distract the child from the world around them, and cell phones are a pain to parents.
There are many good and bad things about the cell phone. Cell phones are a convenience way to communicate with other people. It helps us to easily get in touch with our friends and family no matter where they are. And with so many useful features contained in the cell phones, life is getting easier. On the other hand, being addicted to cell phone will cause health problems to their users. Moreover, cell phones accidentally make people fall far away from each other day by day. They focus on their games, on the people they are talking to, but forget the people that are sitting in front of them. Cell phone is also the reason for the increasing of accidents is recent years. We should take advantage on the useful of cell phone, but do not forget our real world.
There are also many disadvantages in giving a cell phone to a child in elementary or in high school. One disadvantage is that they get very distracted. If a parent does not regulate the time they spend on the phone children will be on it all the time. They also use their cell phones during class time to send or receive text messages or to play games, causing both distraction and disruption.
