Noticed the increasing number of remixes, remakes, and whatnot? Who am I kidding, of course, you have. It’s freaking everywhere. Movies, songs, shows. Most forms of art/media/entertainment today are a rip-off of some old, likable things that people enjoyed. And this trend isn’t just ‘India-specific’ either. It’s happening in the west too. Hollywood is milking franchises like Star-Wars to death. Why? Because it’s loved by an entire generation. And this phenomenon isn’t just restricted to Star-Wars. These media and production houses have ruined most of the beloved franchises for profits. Hell, even old Cartoons are not spared. And They.Are.Not.Stopping. But, I don’t think that’s a bad thing. And before you start preparing the worst …show more content…
This may offend a lot of people, but I believe it’s true. I don’t have the research to back it up; it’s just my opinion, based on my observations and interactions with the previous generation. Coming back to the point, I believe that the last generation doesn’t really like art or freedom of expressions that much. This may be because as a generation, their childhood wasn’t that great compared to today’s average kid. That could be because they were born during the Cold War, and had this ‘responsibility’ to build a new, better world as soon as they started working. I am talking people who were born in the 60s or later. Most of them grew up poor and developed an ‘aversion’ to poverty. And then these people started working. And they worked HARD. These people built and shaped the world as we see now. They were engineers, doctors, businessmen. These are the people who created cities and built empires. They made the skyscrapers and awesome cars and massive militaries, unparalleled with anything that the history has ever seen. And almost all of them did all of that because they wanted to be rich or rather, escape …show more content…
We have become the consumers. However, we’re a little behind when it comes to production. The millennials have been more fortunate growing up, compared to the previous generation. They didn’t have to struggle to make ends meet while growing up. Also, they had internet - this whole new world where everything from science to art, was available instantly. The millennials were exposed to more art while growing up and this has created a sort of a problem for our parent’s generation. They don’t know how to sell entertainment to us because for them, the definition of entertainment is very
Millennials are often portrayed as spoiled rich people who still rely heavily on their parents for everything. This makes them seem childish, and Matchar’s questionable usage of these terms nonetheless is an obvious jab at the poster minority. Millennials overall are hard working and put under more stress than their predecessors, and the ridicule they endure for their work is uncalled for. Therefore, the thesis’s major flaw almost entirely overshadows its main
The 21st century has brought great change and advancement in all aspect of life for mankind across the world. From the creation of high-tech gadgets to innovative ways of basic living, millennials have had a huge engagement in the works of creating such things. They have brought change and advancement through ways in which mankind has never seen before. On the contrary, past generations believe that Millennials are bringing negativity and corruption into the world. The article "The Beat-Up Generation" by Abby Ellin says that " Millennials are, arguably, the most reviled generation in recent history, and armies of consultants are hustling to decipher them.
As Andres Tapia mentioned, “ To be young is to be experienced”. Millennials have a different perspective about how to success in life. Since millennials are born during this current era, they have an advantage over people that were born before. With the inclusion of technology, it is easier to learn and apply new knowledge than before. A good example is the “Apps”. It is only necessary to create an app that attracts the interest of many consumers to start making money. Finally, Millenials have the ability to adapt and evolve. Millenials are the representation of
Motion Pictures have always had a strong influence in today’s culture, but maybe none as prevalent as Star Wars. Originating with Episode 4 A New Hope, the series boomed from 1977 to 2005 with yet another addition coming in 2015. The strongest of the series was the original trilogy episodes 4, 5, and 6, all generally released in the 1980s. As one of the strongest film francaises still today, it’s impact within the 1980s was only the tip of the iceberg. Children and adults alike still anticipate the new edition of this seemingly endless journey. If any singular film series still holds prevalence in its future decades it is Star Wars: Original Trilogy.
People like Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and J.P. Morgan are men who possessed the intellect, the foresight, and most importantly the work ethic to become powerful industrialists. These men displayed their work ethic to the country by being ruthless and tireless. They started something so important that a hundred years later it is still making a huge contribution to our country (Maury Klein pg. 32). What they started was the industrial revolution. Today our country is the most powerful in the world because of our great wealth.
With all the new stars and celebrities that have made their way to the top it seems pitiful that they are being used as copycat models for past works. Those films and shows were hits, became famous and
Since the introduction of Disney films into our society, there has been a sea change
This generation is in need instant gratification from all sources. What used to be the norm like going to the store to shop compare prices is now done on line form the house. The attention span of the average millennial is short. At any given time a person has roughly 3 seconds to capture the attention of a person before they are on to the next subject.
I think movies should illuminate new stories" (Francis Ford Coppola). Not a lot of people appreciate classic movies anymore. It's all about making money instead. Hollywood is not always as successful as they were the first time, be that as it may, they still try to make as much profit as they did with the first films. Another good example is Finding Nemo

Over the years, Bollywood has emerged as its own distinct identity in the global film industry. Bollywood is the global leader in production of movies with a staggering 27,000 featured films and thousands of short films. (Pillania 1) However, Hollywood is still the leader in revenue generated. Due to the growth of the Indian market and globalization, Bollywood has made its way to the international markets.
In the 1950's, society's prudish view on art was drastically altered. If not for this era, art (literature, music, and fashion) would not be as exceptional as it is today. Prior to the beat generation, the conformists of America censored everything; freedom of expression was unheard of. The Beat Generation, blooming in the 1950's, inspired a group of people whose unparalleled creativity shaped the worlds definition of art today. It sparked an interest in people and encouraged uniqueness and the idea of being open to new experiences. The Beat Generation stimulated the minds of Americans, inspiring people to think beyond the nation's conformity. This cultural phenomena pushed people to their limits and outside their comfort zones to create literary and musical masterpieces that would later change the world by expanding the boundaries of free speech.
In his May 2013 editorial for Time Magazine, “Millennials: The Me Me Me Generation,” Joel Stein explains his viewpoint on millennials, defined as people born 1980 through 2000. Using an occasionally humorous tone, Stein summarizes the typical bleak view that older people have for the younger generation, before offering what he believes is closer to the truth. In the end, he decides that while millennials are not without their flaws and vices, a lot of the fears that older people are mostly due to the advanced technology that we are now dealing with. By the end of the article, it is my opinion that Stein makes a very fair summarization and is correct in his idea that to write off the entire generation is unfair towards younger people.
As Generation Y, we are 63 million members strong and spend more than a billion dollars annually (Marketsource). With such spending power it is easy to see why companies choose us as their target market. We have grown up in a "'consumption culture" are "taught that (we) will be satisfied if we purchase products to fill our wants and desires" (Youth in the Third Millennium). Perhaps this need to buy things is only a progression ...
Each of these movies had to attract as many audiences as possible from all demographics. There could no longer be dozens of movies that could fulfill everyone's niches. Each movie started to become more generic and cliché to appeal to the general demographic. With rising viewership in alternate platforms such as Amazon and Netflix, inflation of movie ticket prices, and more and more dumping of money into the budget of each film, Hollywood is backed against a wall.
