Are you distracted by technology? You might not realize it but getting distracted by technology happens a lot more then people may think. How many times do you find yourself scrolling through Instagram in class because a notification popped up? Or doing research for a paper and google somehow knows you need new shoes. Causing hundreds of Nike shoe ads line the sides of the website. Although it may seem harmless, technology is distracting especially with the ease of access we have. Even with self-control the ads, apps, and other distractions always seem to find us. Advertisements are a huge distraction today. With google getting better at tracking activity on shopping sites, it makes it almost impossible to escape them. Facebook, twitter, and Instagram have all integrated ads into the user interface. Simply looking at current events can turn into shopping for a pair of shoes. Escaping the distraction takes multiple ad blockers and lots of self-control. Sometimes that’s not even enough. Social media is constantly trying to keep the focus of Americans everywhere. Many apps push notification to the front of phone screens, as well as set reminder notifications if not opened within a certain time. Tinder, a social dating app, encourages daily use by giving a certain amount of “likes” every day. This causes many to return to the app the next day for more “likes.” Snapchat encourages everyday use by creating snap streaks between members that “snap” each other every day. With constant notifications, streaks, likes, and pokes it make sense why a lot of people could be distracted by social media.
