Abstract Social media has become a huge part of our everyday lives and has become an essential tool when it comes to connecting with people and staying on top of current news. More people are starting to use social media more now than ever before and more children are using social media. According to an IpsosCT LMX Family Study (2012), “89% of 6-8-year-olds have a Facebook account and 97% of 9-10-year-olds also have a Facebook account.” This is an alarming age to be able to be free and open on the internet because of how immature children can be and how they have not been exposed to much. Furthermore, having a social media account and access to technology at such an immature age poses a threat to a child’s interpersonal communication skills for later in life. Are Children Being Exposed Too Much Too Fast? There are a multitude of social media platforms in society today from Facebook all the way to Instagram. Increasingly, more people sign up for these platforms and more kids are signing up for them as well.
