I have wanted to be a shielded arc welder since fifth grade. I know that football will not always be the best career choice to lean on. If i get injured or something else happens, I won’t be able to play. Another reason I want to be an arc welder is because I can be able to see different places around the nation. It’s a great opportunity for me to get out and venture the world. Arc welding is one several fusion processes for joining metals. In Arc welding, the intense heat need to melt metal is produced by an electric arc. Arc welders fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment through the use of welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools. Welders produce metal products according to customer or employer specifications. ... Welders set up, operate and maintain welding equipment. (Welding Career Options, Job Duties and Salary Information) The salary for shielded arc welding is $40,240 per year and $19.35 per month. The average welder with shielded metal arc welding skills can expect to take home roughly $18.35 per hour. Most welders work full time, and overtime is very common. Many manufacturing firms have two or three 8- to 12-hour shifts each day, allowing the firm to continue production around the …show more content…
I plan on taking the welding classes offered at my school, within the next 3 years to give me a head start. After finishing high school, I plan on attending Tulsa Welding School in Jacksonville, FL to further my education. While I am there, I plan on obtaining an Associate of Occupational Studies in Welding Technology. The require courses that I have to take are: Introduction to Welding, Structural Welding I, MIG & Flux Core Welding, Structural Welding II, Basic Pipe Welding, Pipe Welding I, Pipe Welding II, Advanced Pipe Welding, H.F. TIG &/or Pipeline Welding, & Career Preparation. (Professional
scientific experiments (Go welding: history of welding 1). Conventional welding is most easily explained as arc welding processes. Some arc welding processes are TIG welding, Stick Welding(SMAW), and MIG welding. TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas welding this means that using tungsten as a electrode and an inert gas, which is usually argon, the weld is produced by creating an arc between the piece being welded and the tungsten electrode. SMAW or stick welding utilizes a stick electrode held in a clamp surrounded by a powdered substance to weld. Mig welding uses a machine that holds a wire feeder within it, the wire feeder feeds the wire electrode through a tube to a gun that slowly sends out the wire as well as a steady flow of inert gas. These and other processes classified as conventional welding processes are the best processes for welding jobs because they are more cost effective, more...
Next, there are working hours to consider. The OCO tells that most welders work full-time. Many manufacturing firms have 2 or 3, 8 to 12 hour shifts each day to continue production around the clock if needed. As a result, welders may work evenings and weekends (The OCO). In addition, the working environment includes different variables.
Pipeline welders get paid between 50,000 to 185,000 a year. Pipeline welders get paid so much money is because they’re gone from home for long periods of time. Another reason is because they are going to work in different countries. Welding might be a good paying job but it is a dangerous also.
According to Pickwelder, “This type of welding is used in welding wide varieties of metals and alloys such as magnesium, steel, stainless steel, nickel, copper, aluminum, bronze and many other nonferrous metals” (James). MIG can be used with a number of different metals making it very diverse. This is a good quality as it can bond to any metal with the right settings and welding wire. According to JobsiteUS, “A range of material thicknesses can be welded from thin gauge sheet metal right up to heavier structural plates” (Peter Apalais). MIG welding can weld through all different metals and their thicknesses. This is good for production because this process can do both while some processes can only weld thin or thick metal. According to Coastal Media Brand, “Capable for a variety of applications, including – trailer hitches, auto body repair and restoration, farm/ranch equipment, household projects, repairing wheel barrows, bicycles, etc” (Coastalmedia843) The multivariate MIG has so many possibilities that can be used for nearly anything that involves repair work or production. It is good for commercial use and even for your home. This shows the extent that MIG welding can go up to, and the list goes on. All in all Gas Metal Arc Welding is the best process that can be used for an expansive amount of uses for anything consumer grade and
Welding is a excellent career choice for those who like to build things with their hands and have a strong attention to detail. It requires an extensive amount of knowledge and skill but for those who get a solid grasp of the respected trade they're rewarded with tremendous job opportunities and first-rate pay.
Welding is a very important job in today’s society. With new building designs, and bridges to every day metal products, welders are needed to do these tasks. Almost everything that you use every day has some sort of weld to it.
Some techniques of welding started a thousand years ago, it was not till 1800 modern welding started (“Welders”173). Welding had its major uproar in the start of World War I (“Welding and the Society”). In the beginning there was a very high demand for all metal ships, some of the first tanks, and planes. Col. Scott Ritchie said, “welding has done much to keep us above and ahead of the enemy” (“Welding and the Society”). Welding as played an important part in modern wars for America from from sea to air and the land between. On the other hand welding goes back to the year of 1877 resistance welding was first created (“Welders and Welding Technicians” 961). Followed by arc welding in 1889, which is the most used welding today, then came thermite welding in 1900 (“Welders and Welding Technicians” 961). As of today, there is twelve different types of welding used in everyday life ("AWS Revises Major Qualification Standard"). This includes oxyfuel gas welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, submerged arc welding, laser beam welding, gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, plasma arc welding, electroslag welding, electrogas welding, electron beam welding and arc stud welding ("AWS Revises Major Qualification
My main career choice is to go to welding school in Tulsa, Oklahoma and get my welding certificate and become a professional welder. Right after high school I will be moving down there to welding school. I’m still deciding if I want to just go for the 7 months just for the welding certificate or if I want to go for 14 months and become a supervisor. I’m really just aiming for that first 7 months of welding school. That’s going to determine whether I go that extra 7 months or not.
Anybody and everybody can become an industrial machinery mechanic; especially, those who are passionate about getting their hands plastered in motor oil, grease, and other mechanical lubricants. These people will more than likely be ecstatic about getting into industrial machinery mechanics. They need to be able to put in one hundred ten percent of their effort into becoming an industrial machinery mechanic. An industrial machinery mechanic’s overall objective on the job is to stop a mechanical error before it happens. An industrial machinery mechanics are often caught repairing, maintaining, and fabricating machinery. They will be required to have certain education and training as well as some on the job training or complete an apprenticeship program. They will receive many benefits for working in this particular field.
Job description for a pipe welder has to have physically intensive job in which they perform a variety of tasks including pipes for various processing systems. There is some basic equipment that is needed while welding. First and foremost, a welding mask is needed to protect the eyes from the extremely bright light created by the arc. UV light can also come from arcs, so eye protection is needed for this as well. Another necessary piece of safety equipment is gloves. A thick protective specially designed welding glove is used for the hand that is holding the torch, and a thinner glove is optional for the hand that isn’t on the torch as well. Heavy cotton clothing, especially long sleeves and jeans, is necessary as well. The long sleeves and pants will protect the skin from the extremely hot spatter than can fly off everywhere when welding. Leather is preferred if doing a lot of welding at one time.
Jonathan Atteberry claims, “T.I.G welding is difficult to learn and requires an elaborate welding rig of skills. It also uses a lot of electricity to make the welds clean and spatter less” (Parag 5). T.I.G welding is hard to learn because people have different hand coordination.... ... middle of paper ...
Welding is an art, science, and high paying career all in one. Welding is the most effective way to join two pieces of metal, it is the only way to join them so they act as one. Numerous things in our daily lives has been welded from coffeepots to skyscrapers. Welding can be done almost anywhere outdoors, indoors, underwater, and even space (“Welding Basics”). It is practically

There is different types of rods and different types of ways to weld. You need a lot of training for it. There are many schools and colleges you can go to receive welding education. The most common welding processes are Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Core Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding and Shielded Metal Arc Welding. The easiest of these is the Gas Metal Arc Welding. Welding options are stick, flux core, tig, and mig. The pipeline tig and stick welds a lot more than the other .The pipeline use many types of techniques but, the most common on the pipeline is downhill root pass and the up hill pass. The median annual wage of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers is
