If I have learned nothing else as an adult, I have learned that life is unpredictable. It is of the upmost importance to me that I embrace the present and constantly strive to reach my goals, whether in my own education, my profession or personal.
I have always known that I would be in the education field. Both my mom and aunt are retired teachers. I spent countless hours in their classrooms growing up, seeing first hand the passion and hard work that goes into teaching. Unlike my role models, I chose a different path as an undergraduate student. I chose to begin my educational career in the science field, which enabled me to work for a pharmaceutical laboratory. However this left me wanting more, knowing that my true passion was being in a classroom. After to moving to Florida for my husband to pursue his PhD, I too went back to school for my alternate certification and fell more in love with teaching than I thought was possible. While beginning my teaching career in Florida, I quickly learned that not only did I love being in the classroom but I began taking on various leadership roles within the school and found myself wanting to pursue a path towards becoming an Assistant Principal. In the late Summer of 2016, my husband was battling PTSD and went to New York for a week to spend some time with family. He decided not to return to our home or marriage in Florida. My excitement for my future was gone. I had no idea what to do, but I picked myself up, sold our home and moved back to North Carolina in November. I was lucky enough to find a teaching job right away and a home to make my own. Knowing that it is possible that someone may look up to me someday the way I looked up to my teachers helps me know that teaching is what I really want to do. I am very thankful for the great teachers I had over the years who only fueled my desire to stay focused on my dream. Teachers may not get the best salary and may not be considered one of the most challenging professions around, but I do not know of a more perfect and rewarding profession for me. I consider myself lucky that I get the chance to be a part of such a special group of people, and feel fortunate that I get to spend my life doing something I love. I want to be looked at with respect and be considered special. I want to be a teacher.
Some people know what they want to do all their lives, others work an entire life before they realize what it is they enjoy doing and some know what they would enjoy doing, but are too stubborn to admit it. I admire those people who have always known what they want to do and stood by it. I was one of those people who knew in a way what I wanted, but was not real confident if it was the job for me. I have always loved school and the learning process. I would play school with my sisters and I was the teacher. What I have really always liked to do is help people in any way that I could. I always thought to improve life and society I had to be in the health care profession. Now, I know that is not always true. I feel teaching is an awesome way to improve society and to help people succeed in life. Teaching is the career I have chosen to fulfill my dreams of helping people live better lives. I have taught at vacation bible school and enjoyed every minute. I taught children of all ages mixed together and the challenge was rewarding. My husband and family support the career choice I have made. When we started learning about the philosophies of education, I did not agree with just one philosophy so I took the philosophies that are important to me and showed how I will use them to expand learning in my classroom. I am a believer in the mixing of the philosophies of progressivism, behaviorism, essentialism, and social reconstructivism.
Nothing excites me more than teaching. For years, I wanted to be a pediatrician so I could work with children. Throughout my high school years, however, I have discovered that making people feel better is a job not only for doctors. My experiences in high school have helped me prepare for a career in teaching.
Through my own experiences, and as enforced by others' opinions in the profession, I have found that teaching is one of the most rewarding careers. Not only are you placed in the position of instructing and guiding children and young adults through the life long learning process, but you are able to give back to the schools and communities which have supported your early education and experiences that opened you up to a bright future. In becoming an educator, I hope to someday share the knowledge and lend the helping, supportive hand that I was once given, allowing students to formulate their own perspectives of the multicultural society and world around them. Teaching is a career I have been interested in pursuing throughout high school, and as my experiences and study in the field expands, I feel that my desire to teach will grow stronger and develop more soundly.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” Everyone has been asked this question at some point in their life. In fact, I am still being asked this question during this time in my life. Although the questions are in a more mature format, such as, “What are you majoring in?” and “What are you going to do with your life?” I have always answered this question with the same response. I want to be a teacher. Throughout my entire life I have respected and looked up to all of my teachers, as well as admired my parents, who are both educators. However, during my lifetime of playing “teacher” I have never actually thought about my personal educational philosophy. Yet, I can look back now on my schooling experiences to see what has been important to me and to identify the major concepts and beliefs I posses in order to form my own teaching philosophy.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to be a teacher. I personally remember the times when I used to insist on playing school with my younger sister, and I used to love to pretend to be a teacher and make activities for her to do. I even had my own grade book and my own easel where I was able to express my creativity. My dream ever since I was a little girl was to become a teacher, and I think it is amazing that what used to be a pastime and a fun activity for me suddenly became something that I want to pursue in the future. I have always admired and appreciated teachers, and I still do. Teachers have always had a positive impact on my life, and I really would like to give back and become a teacher myself so that I could have the ability to inspire students just like my teachers have inspired me in one way or another. I have been interested in a career in education since I was very young. My grandfather and grandmother both retired from the school system (one as a principal and the other as a Home Economics teacher). I look to them as role models. Helping others understand the world around themselves has always been enjoyable to me.
Teaching has been my dream profession since I was in eighth grade and has helped motivate me to be my best self ever since then. The summer going into eighth grade my girl scout troop did our silver award project where we created a summer academic curriculum for once homeless preschoolers and kindergarteners, that were currently in transitional housing at Saint Elizabeth lodge, who were behind in school. Every Wednesday that summer I spent two hours teaching and playing with those children and my life has not been the same since. Another reason I want to go into the teaching profession is because of the indescribable feeling when you get to see a child’s eyes light up when they finally achieve and comprehend something you have been teaching them and they have been struggling with. Seeing a child after this moment is exceptionally rewarding, because they are typically extremely happy and proud of themselves and that feeling will help them problem solve, build confidence, and face more difficult challenges in the future. Lastly, I want to be a teacher, because education is essential to have in the world we live in today. Getting an education provides people with the skills they need to succeed in life and to achieve their goals. I hope that by becoming a teacher I can help children learn the skill sets that will help them achieve later in life.
Before I came into the school if education I was enrolled in the school of business still truly undecided on what I wanted to become. If I was asked about the themes and domains of a teacher I would have been confused and wouldn’t know what to say. Now that I have been involved with education courses I have learned many qualities that is takes to be an upcoming leading teacher.
The career I have chosen is a Teacher. Every since I was a kid I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. It’s something I put my mind to and it never changed. What appeals most to me about this job is the thought of inspiring someone else to be a teacher much like someone did to me. I wanted to change at least one students life for the better, even if it’s just having someone to talk to. I remember sitting in Mrs. Daniels class, my fourth grade teacher, and thinking. I want to do this. I want to be a teacher. To be a teacher you need to be open minded. You have to want to learn new things because it’s not just the students who learn, the teachers learn just as much. Teahers also need to be kind, humble,and patient.
My career aspiration of becoming an educator didn’t grow overnight. I went to college for a pre-business degree in hopes of being the next “hot shot” in the Financial District of San Francisco. However, instead of focusing my time on business courses, I always found myself volunteering at the local elementary school or divulging myself in my Education courses. I realized I had a passion for education at that point as I was actually earning way better grades in Education courses than my major courses.
Overall, I have had a unique experience that has lead me to my decision of becoming an elementary teacher. People, places, ideas, and facts have shaped me into the person I have become. I am excited to continue learning, and to cause a difference in the world.
When I was growing up, I was always around the teaching profession. My mother is an educator and I had always been told that I would make a great educator too because my mother was a teacher. They said it was in my blood. I was never too sure about that. I never really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I did not know if teaching would be right for me. I did not know until the summer after graduating from high school; the summer I found my calling in life.
I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was little girl. I would always bring home books and papers that we no longer used in class, and I would play “school” with my little sister. I want to be like my teachers that have encouraged me to strive for the things I want, so I can do the same for other children. Another reason I want to be a teacher is so I can have my own classroom and decorate it the way I want and set my own rules. I want to be a good role model for the students as well. Being a teacher seems really fun, and I look forward to doing that.
