I am applying to study dentistry because I know this is the career I would like to preform for the rest of my life. I am a reliable person, hard working and I have a great sense of responsibility. After I obtained my high school diploma, I attended Health Sciences College and I accomplished intermediate university degree in the field of Dental Assistant. I have more than four years of experience in this field, which I believe provides me with a solid dental knowledge background, and fuels my initial motivation of being a dentist. I have gained a great amount of experiences by working in different health institutions such as Dentalia Clinics and Al-thager Hospital. I had a great chance to work closely on patients understanding their fears and gaining their trust, which I believe a main point in dental-patient relationship. I loved my work as a dental assistant and I did my best to help others, but my passion has not stopped there. My need to learn …show more content…
I am driven by helping patients and reliving their pain. Participating in improving public oral health and providing dental care for those who cannot afford it is my goal. Working in dynamic team in organized and caring environment is my best career. Therefor, being a dentist is my dream that has to become true, and McGill University is my way to reach this noble goal. I hope to get the best education in this institution and to finish my bachelor degree with excellent dental knowledge theoretically and practically. In addition, I would be more than happy to contribute in making McGill University a better place for everyone by being an active member and a good student. Moreover, I am ready to participate in any volunteering opportunities to make this world a better place. I am probably not the best academic student, but I am a student who does not give up. I hope that one day I can inspire other students to not give up their dreams and to keep working hard for what they believe

Today must've been the busiest day I've ever experienced at this office. There were so many patients. They all waited at least 3 hours just to be seen by the doctor. The good thing is the office closed at noon so everyone usually was able to make it their shift at work. I got a lot of experience assisting in extractions. I worked with the same doctor I usually work with. She's very nice to me and always requests me when I come in to assist. I interacted with the hygienist, dental assistants (which were just pre-dental volunteers), and the front desk assistant. Everyone had such a good spirit today. There is a dentist that often acts as a dental assistant, which makes things easier because she teaches us about how to prep for procedures and
My ambition for studying a degree for dental hygiene propagated during my research about it. I am very much aware of the importance of the hygienist's role in maintaining the patient's health as I have already experienced it during work experience in a dental surgery. I enjoy helping patients and I am able to communicate with different types of people. I can handle difficult situations in a small period of time without hesitation. I plan on applying to the dental program in 2019. I really appreciate the degree plan being that it does not require a great deal of math. My intention is to move to Arizona or Colorado and practice Dental hygiene in rural and disadvantaged communities due to them having a higher rate of periodontal diseases as a result of the lack of dentist and hygienists.
It's important for any high school student to have an idea or plan of what they want to pursue in the near future. Most students want to go into the medical field, become a professional athlete, a lawyer, etc. Many talk about becoming a dentist, but not a dental assistant. Simply because they feel like it's not that big of a title of being a dental assistant as compared to a dentist. Little do they know dental assistants play a big role as well in the office. A dental assistant does many tasks and duties that help benefit the dentist and also the patients.
The career I am currently pursuing is Dental Hygiene. I chose this career in senior year of high school. My algebra teacher inspired me to choose this career path. I always visited with her after class, for she was my favorite teacher and I learned a great deal from her. One day while visiting her, she spoke about her husband and her two dogs. Her husband was a dental hygienist, and she recommended me to explore further into that career if I could not think of one myself by the completion of senior year. I eventually did consider it, but I decided to become a dentist instead because of the pay. I told her about my decision and she supported me, but was not pleased by my decision since dentistry was prone to take over lots of my life. The pay seemed certainly excellent but I did not know if it was actually worth my time. After learning how complex dentistry was likely to be, I settled for becoming a dentist hygienist.
